I absolutely love this signing.  Considering the free agents left on the market who would fit this team, Daniels had to be at the top.

I see him as a backup guard, along with Eddie.  They don't want Ray or Daniels trying to cover 6-8 small forwards and giving up size.  I see Daniels as the perfect match for Eddie.  He can definitely play the point guard.

If they keep Scal and Tony they can combine those contracts for a bigger SF like Posey or Nocioni.  The salaries match too.

I really can't wait for this season now.
I completely agree with everything you said.

ditto, and I think we are going to see that happen! Just imagine

rondo/house
allen/daniels
pierce/posey or nocioni
kg/baby
perk/sheed

The Boston Celtics where amazing happens every game!

Also I'd appreciate a Tommy Point not only because I'm up posting when I have to wake up at 5 tomorrow, but because I'm stuck on Brian Scalabrine, I'd rather have Stephon Marbury back lol  :-\

Pacers can match all they want, he's not a restricted free-agent. Daniel chooses where he goes.

I like this signing a lot, but I really don't see him matching up well against the better SF's in the league - specifically, the physical ones.  Do you really think Daniels will help against guys like LeBron, Melo and Artest?  I don't.  I realize that Paul will take the brunt of those matchups, but I'd like to have somebody who could spell him against those guys for a few minutes at a time without getting torched.

I'm still looking for one more thing - somebody who can bang with a bigger SF when Pierce needs a breather.  I'd love to see Danny find a way to unload some unneeded pieces - TA, Pruitt, maybe Scal - while filling this gap.  If that happens and BBD is brought back, then Danny gets an A on this offseason in my book.

I am scared
but tonys and scals contract gives me a little tranquility
I hope finally we can trade Walker, giddens, tony, bbd, powe, scal, danny, cheetos, a towel a sock and a pair of ron artest bubblehead for one backup 3

From Wikipedia:

Projected as a second-round pick, Daniels waited for his name to be called. The Mavericks' head coach Don Nelson initially planned on using their 2nd round pick to select Daniels (whom they accidentally discovered while watching game tapes of Josh Howard) but his son Donnie Nelson convinced him to trade the pick to Denver instead and assured his father that they would get him one way or the other. As the calls started pouring in on Daniels' agent's cellphone (among the callers were Magic head coach Doc Rivers), it was later revealed that they had a gentleman's agreement with the Mavericks that his client would sign with them in the event that he did not get drafted.

Nice pickup, probably the best available option other than a s/t. He is versatile and has at least a bit more size and experience/production than Giddens and Walker, who otherwise would be the backups to Pierce.

The problem is, he is only listed at 6'6, and Celtics already have a high volume of players that can both play shooting guard and small forward 2/3 like TA, Giddens, and Walker, and you add Daniels to this list. What they need is a 3/4 that at least has enough size and to match up with the bigger 3's like James. As TA has shown, you don't necessarily need a bigger guy to guard the bigger players like Lebron or Marvin Williams, but it would be nice if they had one, and unfortunately while I think Daniels can be a productive backup against most teams and he is the most of a true 3 that they have behind PP, the Celts still could use a bigger 3/4.

Maybe BBD is that guy if he has slimmed down and gained the required quickness and movement and Celtics will certainly be deep if they retain him.I would like to see the Celts retain Scal and use his contract in a trade. One wishful possibility is Scal's expiring and possibly one of the younger guys traded to the the money/cap constrained hornets for a guy like Julian
Wright, or to Portland who is looking to unload Outlaw.
