I really don't see really what the Celt's motivation in giving up Walker if they don't get someone in addition to Daniels in return.
On the surface, as long as we get Daniels, all is good. But once you get to the details, it's a bad trade especially if Daniels is willing to sign for the LLE if a trade doesn't happen.
So Danny, keep your trade chips until Indiana sweetens the deal.
Agreed. I have no reservations giving up Allen and Pruitt to make the deal work.
Adding Walker and/or Giddens into the mix seems unnecessary.
The only way I might understand it is if Danny has a worthwhile free-agent in mind that he thinks/knows will accept the LLE.
Joe Smith? Anthony Carter?
I've seen agents make contingent deals, but the long term deal angle makes sense especially since $3MM is actually a discount. Until Daniels actually signs an LLE, I have my reservations ... but I believe something between Indy and Boston will get done.
That's right. We would keep the LLE for a player like Smith/Carter, and we would lock Daniels up for 3 years or so. But if it's really Tony/Pruitt/Walker (total of $4.06M) for Daniels, then Daniels would have to receive a contract starting at $3.25M at the very least.
Indiana would basically take back $3.25M (since they wouldn't exercise the option on Pruitt), but what is their motivation to do so? Getting another $3.25M to pay in taxes? Probably not. So they would most likely send another player back. The only player who works out financially and Indiana would be willing to give up is Diener, and he happens to be a backup PG.
So if we would get Daniels/Diener in return for Tony/Pruitt/Walker, Daniels could be signed anywhere from $1.5M to $3.3M, which is a very reasonable price, and Indiana would practically only add $1.51M in expiring contracts ($4.06M - Pruitt - Diener) to their payroll, and would get Walker's upside and maybe even use Tony. This trade would be reasonable for both, and I hope it goes through.
