Yeah i don't see a need for Rasheed and Baby and Smith and Scal.
I say trade Baby if possible and sign a guy like Ben Wallace to replace Powe.  Then keep Scal as a 5th big man who will sort of replace Baby, seeing as Rasheed pretty much replaces Baby anyway.
Rasheed, B Wallace and Scal is a BIG improvement from Davis, Powe and Scal.

If this is true, who do we want in addition to Daniels? Travis Diener? Josh Mc Roberts? If contracts would match, I think Jeff Foster would be a perfect blue-collar big coming off the bench for the celtics.

I hate to be mercenary but my liking for Marquis is probably going to be inversely proportional to how much the Celtics have to give up for him. I hope they can work out something good soon.

Let's hire Powe as a trainer, and keep him in our back pocket to see if his rehab goes well.  That rounds out our big man bench, and let's us focus on finding one more vet pg.  If he doesn't rehab well, no wasted roster spot and we can take a chance on someone else.  Sounds like it may be breaking a rule, but little risk for good reward.

I think we can work something with Foster too if we include Scal or Baby in a sign and trade, not sure about the Baby portion because of the BYC rules, but with Scal certainly.

that was my thought as well, We're trading 2 serviceable at best rotation players and a kid who's only accomplishments so far include "i can dunk real good"

for a proven backup at two positions we desperately need. Anything else for that deal would be pure gravy from the celtics standpoint.

Giving up salary can be a good thing though.

I love that deal.  It's essentially trading Walker's future potential for Daniels help right now.  Ainge isn't going to get a better deal than that.  The three for one deal also brings Boston down to just 10 players under contract, making it easier roster-wise and luxury tax-wise to resign BBD, sign a backu PG (Lue/Marbury) and still have room to hopefully bring back Powe.  It also leaves the Cs with 7 million in expiring deals (Scal, House, Giddens) for another deal.

The best thing about that proposed deal is the roster space. It forces Danny to sign at least three more vets not including BBD or Hudson and as many as 5 more vets if neither signs.
