I've seen agents make contingent deals, but the long term deal angle makes sense especially since $3MM is actually a discount. Until Daniels actually signs an LLE, I have my reservations ... but I believe something between Indy and Boston will get done.
I actually believe that $3M per year is fair value. Anything more and the Cs are taking a risk, in my mind.
In addition, Pruitt's and Allen's contracts are valuable because they are expiring. Maybe not valuable for Indy, but potentially valuable come trade time. If Daniels doesn't pan out, he will be much harder to trade than Allen.
Pruitt is gold until Aug. 1st when his contract becomes guaranteed. Between now and then he is a nice piece that can be used in a trade to free up salary space for another team.
Walker's contract is also good, as it is a team option next year. He is a guy with upside and a cheap/ good contract. A ton of upside? No, probably not, but upside for sure.
I guess what I am saying is that I am seeing a lot of - no, a heck of a lot of - what seems to be overvaluing of Daniels and undervaluing of current Celtics players.
If you compare the stats of Daniels and Allen, they are not that far off. Tony has better FG%, but Daniels has a better A/TO ratio and fewer fouls (per 48). Roland rating and PER favor Tony over Daniels.
Now, I know stats don't tell the whole story, but there has been a whole lot of love going Daniels way the past 24 hours, whereas his name garnered barely a peep prior to yesterday.
