Smart wanted to be the alpha and he just wasn’t. Celtics had to get clarity

My guess is smart and joe had issues

I can confirm I've heard from my sauces that Smart was overbearing at times with both Ime and Joe but for whatever reason Ime turned Smart energy on the court into a defensive monster where Joe struggled with his new defensive player of the year.

I don’t exactly remember, but did Smart “take over” timeouts during Ime’s time as he did numerous times with Joe?

Believe so. Believe there probably was some issues between smart and Joe as smart was quite outspoken criticizing Joe. Don’t think smart was shy among the team to express his lack of buy in. He took joe’s seat during a timeout even.

Maybe Brad felt like change was needed off the court as well as on

I don’t buy this entirely. Smart would still be here if the first deal with the Clippers didn’t fall through.

Wow!! My jaw hit the floor when I woke up this morning! Went to bed and thought Brogdon was going to clippers..now woke up with Smart going to Memphis !!! What happen overnight???
Same. Crazy. I really thought Smart was going to be a Celtic for life.

That said... the Celtics biggest problem these last two years has been late-game execution on offense. That's a point guard problem to a large degree. There's been something off these last two years. Something had to change to shake up this dynamic.

We'll see why the final details are when the dust settles but it seems like a fair deal.
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, 2024

Hate the deal.
This has panic written all over it (I would have been fine with the initial Brogdon trade)
Smart isn't anywhere near a perfect player, but he takes away possessions from the other team with charges, deflections, forced turnovers.
Let's also not forget he switches on every position, instead watch White and Brogdon switch helplessly on bigs now.

Some more thoughts:
- Is Brogdon all good now since we basically traded him away, then it fell through? Disgruntled Ray Allen Pt 2 incoming.
- Porzingis will want the ball, how many basketballs are there to go around?
- We traded a 29yo with 581 playoff games, for a 27yo with 10, with major injury history.

Brogdan seems to be the big question going forward. If he stays is he healthy?

If he goes who do they bring in for guard depth to pair with white?

Personally can’t see Brad moving smart if brogdan was seriously injured unless another move is coming.

Not going to engage with the majority of your post, almost all of which I disagree with.

But Smart has 581 games total, not playoff. He has 108 playoff games.

Per Brian Robb:

New: A league source tells MassLive the Celtics are far from done after trading for Kristaps Porzingis on Wednesday night. A closer look at the revamped roster and what could be on the horizon after a surprise Marcus Smart deal

With the way Brad has been dealing so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next blockbuster deal will involve Brown. Ingram, perhaps?

Hard disagree here. A deal like that doesn’t come together in an hour. Feels like the Cs were working separate deals already. Don’t see how they were able to quickly make make that decision like that if they weren’t already working on trading him somewhere. Still think Brogdon gets traded somewhere else now since they have acquired some additional draft capital as well.

This. I think the disjoint between Marcus and Joe is real, and that Marcus was gonna be shipped out whether the original Porzingis deal was consumated or not.

Thanks, very bad mistake on my part. The point was we trade a playoff vet for a player that hasn't won anything yet. Time will tell, hope it works out.

After the Miami series, there was no doubt that this team needed to revamped the roster..they wasn’t going to win with the current roster from last season
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin
