Listening to Bill Simmons podcast they are talking like this a one year rental? That doesn’t make me feel any better considering Smart was on a better contract with years left. If this was simply a dart board cost cutting trade I officially don’t like it. This flops next year then Brown is on the chopping block. This is a bigger risk than a lot of people are thinking about.
How is it such a big risk? We have a huge asset to dangle teams in the form of a big time expiring contract (if it doesn’t work out), as well as the prospect of adding some good young talent over the next 12 months. If it does work out, we’re the best team in the East

The post above just answered that question. Those young players will never develop on a contender. They will end up complaining about playing time like Pritchard currently does if they actually pan out. Proven vets and ring chasers should be the goal at the end of the bench anyways.
Just like Tatum, Brown, Rozier and Williams (x2) didn’t develop? That’s just from recent Celtics history alone. Very weird bunch of assumptions based on no evidence

Late round picks almost all flop you know this. Rozier was nice trade bait I guess. Timelord fell for the same problems he currently has. Mazzulla won’t play them even if they show up early anyways.
"Almost all flop" is complete nonsense! Just utter rubbish.

Those players developed when the team was in more of the building mode.
Now, we are a title contender and the younger guys sit more. Plus Mazzulla isn't going to develop anyone as far as I can tell.
Not really true. Brown's rookie season was a team that went as far as this one, led by veterans. Tatum's rookie season we had acquired Kyrie and Hayward. Both teams were firmly in win-now title mode.

Who knows what Mazzulla does. But I have some serious faith in Cassell's player development, as seen with guys like Maxey & Harrell.

Interesting last couple of pages: Late picks will flop; team will be soft - is mentally weak; what if KP is injured; Mazzula can't develop players (or coach in general); big risk; will be in tear down mode if they fall short next season...

CStrong has been filled with posts over the last couple of months about balancing the roster.  Brad brings in a 7'3" 23ppg scorer plus 2 solid assets for Smart and 2 guys who never played, and some here don't want to discuss the plus side.

Celtics roster is crazy talented, and Brad isn't done.

I think this trade added around $30 million to Wyc and Co NBA tax bill I calculated, they need to pay around 100 million in luxury tax for the 22-23 season. Crazy

Wow, so Brad/Wyc aren't even good at being cheapskates

So we're stuck with incompetent cheapskates at the helm!  ;)
I'm bitter.

I still don’t know how I feel about all this.  Talent wise we definitely upgraded.

Watching games next year will be interesting.  I hope Joe lets these new assistants help him, because he’s got more on his plate now than last year.  That’s probably not a good thing

Smart wanted to be the alpha and he just wasn’t. Celtics had to get clarity

My guess is smart and joe had issues

I can confirm I've heard from my sauces that Smart was overbearing at times with both Ime and Joe but for whatever reason Ime turned Smart energy on the court into a defensive monster where Joe struggled with his new defensive player of the year.
ok fine

Wow. I like this trade way less with Smart than with Brogdon. I guess this makes White our starter which is fine. Need to process.

Joe will have a full training camp and a slew of veteran assistants so it will be really interesting. He will also start the season as the head coach, so hopefully he commands more respect now as compared to when he was thrown into the job.

I don’t exactly remember, but did Smart “take over” timeouts during Ime’s time as he did numerous times with Joe?
