Brandon Jennings
Mike Miller
Lebron James
Ersan Ilyasova
Joakim Noah
I know, I know. Forever it will be known as "the trade". You guys have your opinions on it, I have mine..its done now. Now this is my team.
In my eyes...
Random thoughts on offense: Ilyasova and Miller are both elite 3pt shooters for their respective positions. Jennings and James are both at their best when they are driving, and Noah is mobile and explosive enough to be a fantastic pick and roll player to the rim. Not 20 points per game fantastic, but good enough to get his 10+ a night. James and Jennings are both about average, with Jennings at 37% and James at 33%. This inside-out dynamic I feel will allow for minimum clogging in the lane to stop LeBron and Jennings from driving, and good spacing on the floor. I wish Noah had a better post game, but he's not exactly inept either.
I think you've essentially become the Cleveland Cavaliers of the past two years. Your offensive is going to be incredibly dependent on LeBron. That's okay though, he's the best offensive player in the game by a huge margin. With Brandon Jennings you absolutely have to get a backup PG to even things out. The guy is streaky as all heck. The good news is he's a passable 3 point shooter, I'd suggest coaching on taking a spot up 3.
I love Noah and Ilyasova for LeBron to play off of. They're both great complimentary scorers for what he does. Noah is very equivalent in game to AV and should fit extremely well. Meanwhile Ilyasova can shoot and drift out to create space.
I think you need a veteran PG, a bench scorer, and a PF/C with some nastiness and beef to defend bigger guys.
I think your team is still going to be a factor in the EC.
I agree on the basis that my team will resemble the Cleveland Cavs from the last 2 years in way that LeBron will be the lockerroom leader and leading scorer, but beyond that I think we're better.
Joakim Noah can at worst replicate everything Varejao brings to the table. However, Noah is a better rebounder, he's a better scorer, he's more explosive, he blocks more shots, and unlike Varejao, he's a vocal and persistent leader on the floor, which is something that LeBron has never played with. Varejao has Noah by 30 lbs and he draws more charges. Beyond that Noah is better in every fashion.
Brandon Jennings is a better player than Mo Williams, at least he was last year. In his rookie year he was often asked to be the leading scorer on his team, so while I will concede he was bit streaky. He took shots he shouldn't. He won't be asked to do any of that, and on this team LeBron will be the leader. On the Bucks Jennings is the leader. I think his shooting percentages should improve, and Jennings' top tier defense should remain.
Mike Miller was simply the best outside shooting guard in the league last season, and he's a close personal friend of LeBron. While Mike Miller isn't Ray Allen, he can do pretty much everything Ray can (except defend on the level that Ray can..and Ray couldn't do that either until he came to the Celtics), and I expect him to fill a similar role as Ray does with the C's.
Ersan Ilyasova is going to be what Antawn Jamison was supposed to be last season. He's a mobile defender, he's an excellent 3pt shooter (for his position), he's a good finisher around the rim..he might not have much of a post game, but that's a sacrifice I will take with LeBron James and Brandon Jennings suicide bombing the rim every 3 possessions.
Tony Allen is a better perimeter defender than the Cavs had in any capacity last season, outside of LeBron. He'll guard Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade during the playoffs, and limit what these two surefire contenders can do with their best players.
Louis Amundson isn't a banger so much as he is a crazy hustle and flow defender. Amundson is all energy, and he'll fill that role off the bench for me.
Right now as constituted I think this squad is an easy head and shoulders over the 09-10 Regular season champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
