PG: Darren Collison
SG: OJ Mayo, DeMar DeRozan
SF: Thabo Sefolosha
PF: Jermaine O'Neal, Glen Davis
C: Chris Kaman, Marreese Speights

Collison and Mayo make possibly the league's most dangerous small backcourt. A long, physical Sefolosha is a great fifth starter, and the foremost reason that opposing wings had a terrible time against the Thunder this season. (That said, didn't he play the bulk of his minutes at the 2?)

Then OKC has the luxury of size and lots of it in the frontcourt. Although, I rank Speights last on the team's depth chart and wouldn't consider starting him. While I'd agree he's more naturally a 4, at this point his scoring is off-set by poor defense and uneven effort and rebounding.

Thoughts?

Guards: Courtney Lee
Forwards: Amar'e, Battier, Blake Griffin
Center: Okafor, Blair

You could use a Wesley Matthews type
This is just wrong.

ROF****

Very, very funny ...but just wrong!!!!!

PG Curry
SH Roy
SF Beasley
PF Smith
C Chandler

can i get comments/suggestions on this potential unit.

Not much D or length. Chandler is not the same player otherwise he might be able to make up for the lack of height.

Good shot blocking though. Beasley is the wild card.

how much height do i need..i think i have good height and defense..smith chandler are great defenders and shot blockers. Curry averages nearly 2 steals per game...my problem is who do i start at small forward?

curry 6'3"
roy 6'6"
beasley 6'10"
smith 6'9"
chandler 7'1"
Steph Curry = average defender
Brandon Roy = average defender
Michael Beasley = large liability defensively (SF) to poor average but improving (PF)
Josh Smith = good defender
Tyson Chandler = exceptional defender

Steph Curry and Brandon Roy both have solid athleticism/height. Tyson Chandler is a tall long center. Josh Smith is a little undersized but has exceptional athleticism to make up for it.

I don't see defense (outside of Beasley) or size being an issue for this team.

----------------------------------------

I would like to see this squad trade Beasley for a natural small forward though.

It feels like he's going to go to waste on this roster. Josh Smith is too good a talent not to be playing 34-38 minutes a night at power forward. Not enough minutes left over for Beasley and they would likely prove too flawed as a big man pairing to play alongside one another consistently. I don't like Beasley as a small forward (not Josh Smith @ SF either) so I would be reluctant to play him there too.

Not enough minutes for Beasley on this squad. Could get better value out of a player at another position or by trading him for a reserve who is more versatile. Better able to play multiple positions.

I think he's a talented player but his value to this team seems to be fairly small.

Really  like my depth now. 4 frontcourt guys who can be depended on. Everyone on this team can defend as well. Mayo may be undersized against some 2 guards but DeRozan has the size to come in and help with that.

Speights is going to blow up this year and we all know what Big Baby brings.

I want baby in his elbow jumper shooting role from 09. He is less effective in the post.

DeRozan will start for Toronto this year. He was super efficient as a rookie and should get even better as he gets a feel for the NBA game. He has the athletic ability to get to the rim and be a 18ppg player. He is also a plus rebounder at his position.

Bumping this because I didnt get much feedback.

Today I made an early trade Marc Gasol for Kaman plus 26 spots in the 6th round.

I then picked up Sefolosha, DeRozan, BBD, and Speights to give my team great depth. I still need a backup PG but I like the balance on my team so far.

I think I might start Speights at the 4...not sure yet. (Thanks for the suggestion IP)

Baseless statements like "Speights is going to blow up this year" are quite pointless.  Firstly, Speights showed incredibly little, if any, improvement last season from his rookie season.  Secondly, he didn't show much progression as the season went on either.  Only thrice did he grab 10+ boards in a game last season.  So that statement means nothing and makes me further question all of your logic/reasoning as well.

I like your Collison/Mayo combo as guards and Sefalosha is indeed a very good defender, so you've got a good backcourt.  JO and Kaman is a slow, old, below average frontcourt though.  Luckily, you've got some depth behind it.  Kaman will give you good #s and fit that team well offensively.  Speights can also score.  I think as a starting tandem, they won't be very good defensively though and your bench doesn't help that.

Prognosis:  37-42 wins

Would appreciate some feedback on my squad: good, bad, or indifferent:

Head Coach: Jeff Van Gundy
PG: Tony Parker
SG: Caron Butler, Aron Afflalo
SF: Danny Granger, [Butler]
PF: J.J. Hickson
C:  Samuel Dalembert, Zaza Pachulia

True or false: this team is the frontrunner to win the SW Division. I'd vote, but I'm biased.

This team has some toughness defensively but a weak spot at PG.  This is one of those teams that I think "solid" but doesn't overwhelm me.  Very good pg, good SG, very good SF, and 2 bigs who are either best suited coming off the bench (Hickson,Zaza) or in the lesser half of starters (Dalembert).  Afflalo is a guy who is a good starter, but I don't know if he brings that energy off the bench (which Caron can) that I'm a big fan of.  I think I'd rather start Afflalo.

Prognosis:  41-46 wins

Thanks for the comments, action.

I do like the option of starting Afflalo over Butler, depending on matchups.

I suppose that if Hickson doesn't produce this year, then this team may not live up to my expectations.

However, I think the team's balance of offense and defense make it better than a .500 team. Granger is a legit scorer and a tough guard for most opposing SFs. Parker can work his way into the paint against most opposing PGs, creating opportunities to him to score, draw fouls, or get buckets for his teammates. I think Dalembert and Pachulia comprise an effective rebounding and defensive tandem at C; either could (and may) start for their respective teams this coming season.

beasley is listed as 6'10 on his nba.com profile he might be like 6'9 though
Beasley measured in at 6-8 and a quarter prior to the draft. He does have a seven feet wingspan though which gives him a standing reach of 8-11 which is about average for a power forward.

Beasley is not physical or big enough to play alot of PF's and too slow to guard sf's. Also, for example how would you match up against teams with 2 guys with any length. Think Bynum and Gasol...or Kaman and JO ;)

TP for the analysis.

TPs are nice but my landlord still won't accept them as rent. NOLA is still looking for feedback - and will gladly reciprocate - particularly since the 8th round may be make-or-break for the team.

Do you have a bench?  If not, this team is in big trouble, that's all I can say.  I love the team as starters and with a good bench, this team is incredibly dangerous.  But with no bench, this team is average to below average.

EDIT:  I now see this team has no bench.  I was going to give this team 55+ wins if it had a good bench, but I don't know if it can be filled out this late.  I cant give any projections without any bench though.

Kaman is old? He is 28 and coming off of a career year. Jermaine O'Neal is also only 31 and he is still a really good defender.

Below average? I think THAT statement is baseless. Unless you consider a combination of an all star and the starting center for the Boston Celtics below average.

Sorry I offended you with a little hyperbole about Speights. Given the opportunity, he has the tools to become a great scorer. As a bench player, he is a nice piece.

in all honesty i think josh smith would have a field day on JO..JO has bad knees wont be able to run with smith on fast breaks..on defense smith is a little shorter but hes strong and can block his shot.

I really like your team as one of the top 3 or 4 vying for "Team of the Future". Your entire argument for top spot there might have to be geared toward Demarcus Cousins being this upcoming year's Rookie of the Year, which, BTW, is quite possible given the opportunity and minutes Sacramento is going to give him this year.

Horford, Gordon and Holiday are truly exceptional young talents and with Cousins makes a great "Future" core. But perhaps to be truly committed to a "Future" team you might want to see if you could trade Wallace and McDyess to someone for some superior young talent.

Best of luck with the coming rounds. there's still a bunch of very NBA ready rookies out there and first and second year players that should compliment your team greatly, if you commit wholeheartedly to the "Future" team

It's not like O'Neal is immobile. He can run. I never understand that argument. There is a reason why going small doesnt work for more than 5 minute stretches, and that the Suns don't have 5 championships by now...size wins. You can't outrun everyone, especially in the playoffs.
