Thoughts?

Guards: Courtney Lee
Forwards: Amar'e, Battier, Blake Griffin
Center: Okafor, Blair

You've definitely moved to more of a win-now team.  I think the unfortunate thing is that the only really good, sure-thing talent you have is Amare'.  You're going to need more pieces around him; I'd suggest dealing Griffin to one of the teams of the future and see what you can get in return.

I think Minnesota would be best off adding another wing scorer....

Co-sign. I like Williams, Green at PF, and Haywood as starters. McGee is a nice option off the bench at C.

Beaubois would be a great change of pace off the bench, and would be the scoring PG for the second unit. As a starter, I don't think he has quite the same impact.

I don't know enough about Thornton, other than he's only got one year of NBA experience.

Going Small (running)
1. D. Williams
2. R. Beaubois
3. M. Thornton
4. J. Green
5. J. McGee

Thoughts?
You are not going to be able to play Jeff Green (PF) + JaVale McGee (C) together. They are too deficient defensively (for now, at least).

That lineup would also get massacred on the backboards 2 through 4 (SG, SF, PF). The wing defense (Deron, Thornton) is very poor too.

That lineup would get outplayed with regularity. Your team won't be able to stop anyone, can't rebound and won't score enough to make up for it.

-----------------------------------------

If you play Jeff Green at center you need a legitimate defensive presence at the five alongside him. Preferably one with a physical presence. Not a finesse defender who gets lost repeatedly on team defense and cannot defend his own man (McGee). Brendan Haywood can fill this role. Play him and four quick players for your running lineup.

To get any type of value out of Green defensively at the four position you'll need big wings (height, length, physical strength -- they'll be switching onto PFs, strength is important) alongside him allowing you to switch repeatedly on defense. Deron Williams is a big strong (physically) point guard so he can switch on several matchups too.

That means small backcourts (Deron + Roddy) are to be kept to a minimum (only when other team is small in backcourt) while Green is at the four and that Marcus Thornton cannot play the three (strictly a two guard, too one dimensional to switch positions competently).

Otherwise, Green's limitations defensively at the four will create too large a negative. He is an atrocious man-to-man defender and is too small to provide adequate team defense in the paint. His transition defense, pick and roll defense and perimeter defense are solid to very good. Add his ability to switch and your team defense can become very active while he is at the four.

Long defenders, strong defenders, guys who can rebound the basketball. Must haves for Jeff Green to play the four.

I thought your team was better off with the Jennings + Griffin + Noah troika. A much better foundation to build around. Both offensively and defensively.

I don't like this team's lack of offense on the perimeter. No playmaker. No scorer. No creativity. Too predictable. Not enough penetration. Too easy to defend.

I don't see any way to solve that problem without trading one of Amare Stoudemire or Blake Griffin ... unless you find someone who is absolutely in love with Emeka Okafor.

My fast lineup will create a lay up drill. They will be quicker at every position on the court, with one of the best passers in the league distributing the ball. However, this will only be from time to time not a consistent thing. I think you are wrong about there being not enough scoring to outscore teams for small stretches with that lineup. Beaubois and Thornton can fill it up. McGee will get a ton of easy buckets just from running.
People sleep on McGee, he is going to be very good this year with a real point guard running his show. He already is an upper tier shot blocker that is quick enough to guard 4's.
I am going to play Green at the 3 almost exclusively. He will never see time at the 5, and will get spot duty at the 3.

Thoughts on the Spurs

PG - Devin Harris
SG - James Harden
SF - Ron Artest
PF - Chris Bosh
C - Serge Ibaka

I like the ability to play a lot of Pick and Roll and Pick & Pop with Harris and Bosh.  Artest is a rugged defender who will take the #1 perimeter assignment.  Clearly a lot depends on the makeup of the bench and the progression of Harden & Ibaka.

I think we have a good foundation to be a solid playoff team

Your fast lineup will have to, in order to offset the lack of defense.

McGee is full of promise, but like all young shotblockers, he will have to learn to play with restraint, and not rack up fouls. And while he may be quick, he hasn't played a minute in the NBA at PF.

I would trade Artest. I just don't see him fitting well with that group.

we think being a champion (puke) and with continued reliance on his theraprist...artest should be a calming influence while bringing that hard nosed d

Ron-Ron is not, and never will be, a calming influence. He needs other veterans with strong wills (Kobe, and Phil Jackson) to keep him in line.

Psychology aside, how much does Artest have in the tank? You're more of a team of the near future than win-now.

PG: Darren Collison
SG: OJ Mayo, DeMar DeRozan
SF: Thabo Sefolosha
PF: Jermaine O'Neal, Glen Davis
C: Chris Kaman, Marreese Speights

Really  like my depth now. 4 frontcourt guys who can be depended on. Everyone on this team can defend as well. Mayo may be undersized against some 2 guards but DeRozan has the size to come in and help with that.

Speights is going to blow up this year and we all know what Big Baby brings.

I want baby in his elbow jumper shooting role from 09. He is less effective in the post.

DeRozan will start for Toronto this year. He was super efficient as a rookie and should get even better as he gets a feel for the NBA game. He has the athletic ability to get to the rim and be a 18ppg player. He is also a plus rebounder at his position.

I'd start Speights at the 4.
