He has denied every rumor out there. He is not going to give his plans away. That was hardly a convincing denial.

If you take Scali out of the deal, it still works.  Then, the Wiz can save 4 million.

You mean like this?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ykgpodm

That puts the Celtics way over for this season, add luxury tax. Scal has to be included for the sake of even $$trade.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygumv4h

I don't think that this would be too ridiculous. The Charlotte trade was shut off because BBD's BYC status was throwing everything off.

everyone REALLY is happy in this deal.

Boston: Gets a younger all-star-caliber player to put in the lineup, gets another proven starter to put on the bench, and basically gets rid of something we'd have too many of... for something we need.

Washington: Gets rid of 2 contracts that hold them back from rebuilding

Charlotte: gets a PF that they need, and gets rid of a problem in their locker room.

Right, because Danny is always completly truthful when rumors come out.

I'm not saying this deal is going down or is even likely, but no GM says "oh snap, ya you caught me. I am in major trade discussions right now" when asked.

Up until 5 minutes before the Ray Allen trade was announced, Danny was adamant that we were using the fifth pick.

He called the Minn discussions overblown and false as late as a day before he pulled the trigger on the KG deal.

GM's lie, it's thier job.

I think 80% or more posters on this thread agree this is a great trade. I love the trade myself but feel bad for Ray Allen if it goes through (He has expressed his love for this franchise and has a great work ethic). Some one once said "you should love the name in front of the Jersey, not the back", but its only natural to get attached to great players like Ray. Hopefully if it goes through Ray gets bought out and returns in 30 days, or maybe he will sign next year for the MLE. He is still a good player but he plays too many minutes for an older player and it has zapped his energy, he would be perfect off the bench. I support my teams no matter what. I just hope when all is said and done. Ray can retire a Celtic and get that 3 point record.

I'd be curious to see if anyone could pull the quotes out of the archives to see what Danny was saying right before the Ray Allen trade and the KG trade went down.  I'm sure he was a bundle of honesty then, too...

Pull the trigger on this deal, Danny.  (That would have been funnier if they were still called the Bullets...but given the Gilbert Arenas situation, I just couldn't resist).  LOVE this proposal...

I'm still worried the trade won't get done and I'd rather learn right now if it will get done or not instead of waiting for a few days.

With that said, I was thinking about the recent rumors and events concerning the Celtics and Danny Ainge, and I think this trade makes a lot of sense in that "continuity" regard.

Let's resume it :

- The rumors about Ray getting traded are heating up and we hear about them everyday. Danny meets with Ray and his wife to discuss it and explain them the "situation".

- Ray claims that he wants to stay with Boston and re-sign this summer, willing to take a paycut.

- Then we hear about a BBD for Augustin trade. Danny denies having any talks with the Bobcats but says that he likes Augustin a lot (even though if he wasn't asked to). You can't trust what Danny says and you can read between the lines. He says he envisions minor tweaks, which doesn't mean he won't make major tweaks... plus he did deny rumors like that a few years ago with the Sczerbiak/Davis trade, and also said he wasn't planning on doing anything on draft day just before acquiring Ray for the #5 pick.

- We hear that the owners are ready to spend more money in order to improve now and for the future but they don't wand "bad contracts".

- Ray, who hasn't missed a game this season and never had back problems, is suddenly out of our last game before the break with "back spams" which occurred to him at shootaround after 3 days of rest. Sounds like a trade is brewing, uh?

- Then we learn yesterday by Chris Mannix that Butler and Jamison can be had for expirings.

- Finally, and it may be totally unrelated, by Ray, who is currently in the Bahamas for the break, finally launches his website after years of wait. The website is, of course, about Ray but a lot about the Celtics too.

So, with all these events and elements, here is my guess :

Danny and the Wizards have been talking about that trade for a few weeks and they are getting closer to get it done now that the deadline is really close and Washington knows none other team is willing to take both Butler AND Jamison's terrible contract.

Danny told Ray and his wife about that potential deal when he met with him and probably told him he could get bought out and re-sign with us just in time for the playoffs after the legal delay of 30 days. Ray agreed.

And now, if the deal gets done, I'm pretty sure Ray will re-sign with us because the Wizards will gladly welcome a buyout since they won't have any use for Ray. Then Danny will trade Baby + filler for Augustin + filler.

What do you think? Of course it's pure speculation and wishful thinking from my part but when there is smoke there is fire, and I think that all these elements and rumors piling up for the past few weeks make too much sense all put together. It doesn't mean the trade will happen for sure but it has good chances of happening if all goes according to Danny's plan.

Edit : just saw Ainge's denial. Doesn't mean anything to me, typical GM talk!

Not surprised, this smells of Washington wanting more from their sutiors.

Still I'd love for it to be true, I'm still excited...

I'm not going to read through this entire thread so forgive me if this has already been asked, but where on earth are Butler and Jamison going to play.  Pierce and Garnett are your 3 and 4.  You going to move Garnett to the 5?  Sit him?

Are you going to put Butler at the 2?

I am not sure if this trade makes a ton of sense.  Sometimes big names aren't always what a team needs.

But, as a Cavs fan, I say go for it.  Butler and Jamison have never been able to beat the Cavs.  :)

Have you watched the C's much this year?

First, Pierce is playing a lot more like a SG this year.  He has become a spot up shooter, and plays a lot more within the offense.  So offensively, having Butler play as more of a power guy would be fine.

Also, Butler and Pierce both are good defenders, who can stick with most SG's or SF's in the league, so that is not a big issue.  It is certainly an upgrade over Ray.

As for Jamison...well, KG has looked pretty bad lately.  There does not seem to be much reason for confidence of him being healthy, so that brings the value of Jamison right there.  Also, even if KG is healthy, Jamison provides scoring off the bench, another big who can defend the perimeter, strong rebounding, and a much better option than Wallace to finish the games next to KG at center.

If this deal went down (without Ray getting bought out) Ernie Grunfeld will make Chris Wallace look like Red Auerbach.

The conspricay theorists will insists that Stern is behind this somehow.

That’s how unbelievable this deal would be.

If Ray gets bought out and returns., Mitch Kupcak, Danny Ferry, Billy Knight and Otis Smith are going to bomb Washington DC.

With that being said, Hell Yeah! Let’s do it!!

You mean like every other trade rumor he's ever addressed, including the Ray and KG ones?

It's probably a good bet.

P.S: he's not even technical lying. he does this all the time. he says

"I have had no discussions"

He never says

"WE (the Celtics organization) have had no discussions"

Thus, even if called on it later assuming somehow a deal goes down, he'll say that at that time only his staff had talked to the wizards.
