I guessing Baby get included in this deal. He is fairly cheap for next season, and semi-talented.

More likely the discussion has probably turned to draft picks.  How many 1st will Boston include?  One or two.

Wdleehi, you think it's realistic to include Miller and Stevenson (who they will insist upon in any Butler / Jamison deal) to get them under the lux tax?

If you take Scali out of the deal, it still works.  Then, the Wiz can save 4 million.

You mean like this?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ykgpodm

Or just this.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ykjgz96

That looks like it only clears about $1.5mil off their cap. I'm working under the assumption: a) they'll insist we take stevenson, and b) they'll want to move to get under the lux tax.

Maybe this has already been mentioned in the 14 pages of this thread but the best news is...

One UConn guy out (Ray)
One UConn guy in (Caron)

So Donny still gets to tell all his UConn stories!

And a North Carolina guy in, which may entice Roy Williams one day...

I think 80% or more posters on this thread agree this is a great trade. I love the trade myself but feel bad for Ray Allen if it goes through (He has expressed his love for this franchise and has a great work ethic). Some one once said "you should love the name in front of the Jersey, not the back", but its only natural to get attached to great players like Ray. Hopefully if it goes through Ray gets bought out and returns in 30 days, or maybe he will sign next year for the MLE. He is still a good player but he plays too many minutes for an older player and it has zapped his energy, he would be perfect off the bench. I support my teams no matter what. I just hope when all is said and done. Ray can retire a Celtic and get that 3 point record.

TP, hell of a first post.

haha good call, the only problem is that Roy Williams didn't coach any of these guys. The only guy he coached has been on our team for 11 years.

i knew that, but one can wish!  ;)

i remember when Larry Bird was strongly recommending Williams for the Celtics coaching job years ago.  I don't think he'd ever leave NC, but he's proven that when you put talent in front of him he makes it work.  I have no idea how that would translate at the professional level, but it would be fun to find out.

But back on topic, I'd really love to see this deal happen.  I think we have to put our "feelings" for Ray aside and realize that this is what's best for the Boston Celtics, not Ray Allen.  It's still a "business"...

Maybe someone's mentioned this and I missed it, but the big advantage Cs have over other teams is its ability to take *both* contracts. Mavs, Houston, and Cavs are only offering to take one of them. If the Wiz are really wanting to blow it up, it'd be hard for them to say no to this deal. No one will be biting on those two contracts this summer.

I love Ray too. He has sacrificed most. That's what I thinking too. If this trade goes through, Ray will likely get bought out and hopefully comes back in 30 days. And then for next season restructure Pierce's final year $21mil salary. And re-sign Ray at MLE. This keep the starting5 together. And have Butler/Jamison/Sheed/Daniels come off the bench.

I'm not going to read through this entire thread so forgive me if this has already been asked, but where on earth are Butler and Jamison going to play.  Pierce and Garnett are your 3 and 4.  You going to move Garnett to the 5?  Sit him?

Are you going to put Butler at the 2?

I am not sure if this trade makes a ton of sense.  Sometimes big names aren't always what a team needs.

But, as a Cavs fan, I say go for it.  Butler and Jamison have never been able to beat the Cavs.  :)

Have you watched the C's much this year?

First, Pierce is playing a lot more like a SG this year.  He has become a spot up shooter, and plays a lot more within the offense.  So offensively, having Butler play as more of a power guy would be fine.

Also, Butler and Pierce both are good defenders, who can stick with most SG's or SF's in the league, so that is not a big issue.  It is certainly an upgrade over Ray.

As for Jamison...well, KG has looked pretty bad lately.  There does not seem to be much reason for confidence of him being healthy, so that brings the value of Jamison right there.  Also, even if KG is healthy, Jamison provides scoring off the bench, another big who can defend the perimeter, strong rebounding, and a much better option than Wallace to finish the games next to KG at center.

Admittedly, I have not watched much of the Celtics.  So this was more a theory then what I have seen with my own 2 eyes.

FWIW, the rumor is that the Dallas deal of Howard for DeShawn and Butler is much more likely
