This deal is being discussed all over DC sports radio today.  It's all I heard as I was driving home from work.

I dont know if this has been brought up b/c I didnt feel like reading 16 pages of this thread, but on the radio they said that this deal is being done with the intention of Washington buying out Ray Allen so he can return to Boston, after 30 days, for the remainder of the year.

If these rumors are true and I dont think they are then Danny must have no confidence whatsoever in KGs knee, because I dont know how Jamison would find any time to play on this team.  This move would create a logjam at PF and SF, especially if Ray Allen would come back to occupy Guard minutes.  Perkins, Sheed, Garnett, Jamison....all fighting for minutes.  Pierce and Butler are both true SF's.

This just doesnt make sense Money wise and depth chart wise to me.

.....ohh and they also said on DC sports radio that Scalabrine would be part of the deal....sorry BassThumper :)

The trade dead line is getting me nuts. This would be a very good trade, but I hope it happens soon.

Another report that the discussions are for real, according to "league source" :

"League source confirms Wizards, Celts engaged in trade talks. BOS interest in Jamison, Butler. Wiz in R. Allen. Other pieces being discussed"

http://twitter.com/MikeJonesSports

Boy, "league source" really has conflicting reports... it's a new word than can be used for every report/rumor, it seems.

Ya, I'm going to start referencing 'league sources' in my everyday life. "League sources report that I had too much to drink last night"

I can confirm that.

Oh, c'mon... This trade make no sense: Celtics won't pay over 100 milions next year. It's just a Wizards move to hurry Cavs and Mavs

Or it's a Celtics move to put pressure on the Kings, Bulls or 76ers.

Really I don't know how this works out unless we get rid of Sheed and Baby.   Money will be wasted one way or the other.

Pierce could play the 2.  He can guard the position fairly easily, and he would just be a great mismatch for us on the offensive end.  Not a problem at all for us.

What if they worked out a Jamison for DJ augustin trade instead of baby?  Dont see it happening, but i'm sure the bobcats would prefer that, and would kick something else to us.

I don't think Pierce can play the 2 for extended minutes any more.  Back in his younger days, it wasn't a problem.  However, age and size have taken a toll on him.  He's a 3 now and is better off staying there.

He's not as quick anymore and would have difficulty guarding many 2s in this league these days.  Sure, he could abuse some matchups on the offensive end but it would be at the cost of defense.  He's still pretty abusive playing the 3 without having to sacrifice defensive matchups.

More likely it's a great way to get the Cavs to up their offer for Jamison, and the Mavs for Butler.

also the point that I made in my previous post was based around the fact that the report I heard on DC Radio was that the Wizards would presumably be buying out Ray Allen so he could return to Boston.

So if thats the case, Pierce couldnt slide over to the 2 like you mentioned, at least not for any  significant amount of time to get Butler quality minutes.

if this deal goes down, and I would almost bet the farm it wont, everyone except for Rondo is gonna be taking a pretty good cut in minutes.  I also find it funny that this deal addresses bench play for basically every position on the floor except for PG, which is our most glaring need.

Cutting minutes would be a good thing for most concerned.  Sheed could strictly play center, where I think he's better anyway.  If he can ever be persuaded to keep his arse on the low blocks, he's still our most effective low post player.  Jamison could essentially then split minutes with Garnett, and frankly the way Garnett's been playing, I wouldn't mind Jamison getting the lion's share of them.  PP needs to have his minutes trimmed way back.  It'd make him more effective.  If PP was getting say 31 minutes and Butler the other 17, that'd be killer production at the 3.  Then Butler can pick up more minutes at the two.

I don't think minutes will be an issue.  I think it'd be great for the team.  Plus, about the PG spot, with adding Jamison, I seen Baby being dealt for a backup PG anyway.

It all depends on whether Wyc would be willing to fork out the cash (and whether Washington can get more return on these guys), but I think the reduced minutes thing will be a blessing.  I doubt Garnett will ever be right again, but less wear and tear on him can only be a positive.

Ok I can see that.  TP.

As far as the talent Washington can get from other teams, the most enticing deal they have talent wise is the proposed deal to Dallas, which is basically Butler for Josh Howard.  I dont know what Howards conract situation is, but after the whole Gilbert Arenas fiasco this year I just have a hard time imagining The Wizards wanting to bring in a guy whos been caught on camera refusing to honor the national anthem, and is also a known pot smoker.

We'll see what happens.  One things for sure, given the way this teams played over the past month, I just cant see Wyc signing off on all this guaranteed money.  After all, this doesnt guarantee that this teams attitude will pick up and play better as a result.

Any chance we can throw Sacramento as a third team. They wanna quality big men for KMart...its highly unlikely but this would be the ideal scenario:
BOS trades Ray Allen to WAS, Tony Allen, B.Scalabrine & JR Giddens to SAC
WAS trades Caron Butler & Andrey Blatche to BOS, Antawn Jamison to SAC
SAC trades Kevin Martin & Sergio Rodriguez to BOS, Kenny Thomas to WAS
Why for Boston?
In Martin & Butler we get younger versions of Ray & Paul, we get backup pg in Rodriguez and talented big in Blatche
Why for Washington?
Salary dump. Ray & Kenny Thomas have expiring contracts...if they void Arenas then they can sign 2 max players
Why for Sacramento?
Resolving Evans/Martin issue, get quality big man who can spreadthe floor and save some money

Our depth chart:
RONDO/RODRIGUEZ/DANIELS
MARTIN/BUTLER/HOUSE
PIERCE/BUTLER/DANIELS
GARNETT/WALLACE/BLATCHE
PERKINS/WALLACE/DAVIS

I believe this team has chance to win this year and be a contender at least 2-3 years.
