Apparently, Doc tried to sign him when he was coach at Orlando. This was part of Daniel's bio on Wikepedia:

Projected as a second-round pick, Daniels waited for his name to be called. The Mavericks' head coach Don Nelson initially planned on using their 2nd round pick to select Daniels (whom they accidentally discovered while watching game tapes of Josh Howard) but his son Donnie Nelson convinced him to trade the pick to Denver instead and assured his father that they would get him one way or the other. As the calls started pouring in on Daniels' agent's cellphone (among the callers were Magic head coach Doc Rivers), it was later revealed that they had a gentleman's agreement with the Mavericks that his client would sign with them in the event that he did not get drafted.

The circle of life, my friends.

seems like a nice guy. probably a more experienced version of Walker. lots of driving to the basket. would like a shooter, but overall pretty exciting signing:

Interesting move.  Daniels gives the 2nd unit a capable ballhandler, which makes House more capable at the 1.  He's also a solid and versatile defender.

He'll be a difficult pairing with the starters however, primarily because he's incredibly inaccurate for 17 feet and beyond.  He's never seemed to learn to stop taking deep Js either.

If we resign Baby, I'd really like to trade TA/Scal for a shooter.

This has to be the biggest steal of the offseason so far. Danny sure is making up for the 2008 offseason  :D

You do realize that the 2009 offseason would not have been possible without the 2008 offseason going down the way it did, right?

Danny drew the line on Posey because he knew that the summer of '09 would be a buyer's market with lots of good bargains to be had...

I see you are also a member of the Danny Ainge apologists union. I havent seen you at the community center on Wednesdays though. Strange....

You know very well there's a minimum Tommy point requirement for entry into the DAA union (because DAA-ers are elitists by nature) and I'm nowhere near the cutoff line.  Maybe next year if I try hard and the DAA wins more converts and my particular brand of punditry gains favor.  And I also need a car.  But then I'm there, handing out the Kool-Aid, cleaning up the confetti, taking out the trash, whatever it takes, I'll be there.
Folly. Persist.

I don't think we need a backup 1. House can fill the minutes that Rondo can't play. Rondo is good for 35 + per, Eddie can handle the other 13 per. No need to get greedy.

I think getting a veteran point guard JUST BETTER than Pruitt with the minimum would be ideal! It's the last move we need to make, but, as I've said, even if we don't make that move, I won't be much worried! We're just examining realistic targets so that we can be as confident as possible for the next season! ;)

I think Daniels can play all three perimeter spots at a good level.

Regarding his tats:

"Daniels is noted for having several tattoos inscribed on different parts of his body. The tattoos range from an extremely detailed map of Florida that covers his entire back, a disturbing caricature of a man blowing his head with a shotgun on his lower right arm, and Chinese characters on his other arm which were apparently intended to represent his initials, but when translated into English, it actually reads "big women standing on the roof"."

I'm pretty happy with this.  Daniels isn't much of a shooter, but he can score and handle.

I'm in the same boat. Funny that the DAA are in the minority here when he turned us from crap into contenders and helped facilitate a parade.

Thanks, Rida. Just found that myself.

Still, I'll believe it when I see it. I hope it's via trade, not LLE. I still want to save that bullet.

Only reason I believe it is because Spears is an incredibly legit source and these guys are very conscience of their posts.

@ricbucher

http://twitter.com/RicBucher

got very flustered when people questioned some of the stuff he was putting out on Twitter today and defended himself vehemently.

Even Simmons had a dig at him which was highly entertaining

Thank you for breaking the story. I put it on the FP. Next time you see something like this first, pop down a
fanshot, and get famous

whats a fanshot?

It's where ambitious posts go to die.

That doesn't make sense.
I read through a lot of Fanshots and Fanposts myself.

We have a lot of shooting on the team to balance it out. I'm very happy with this signing. Now if we can keep BBD for 3 million or less I'll be completely satisfied with this off-season.

So do I! Daniels is younger and probably a lot less injury prone.

If I have facts straight, Daniels could also take a few minutes playing the 1 spot, right? If I recall, he started in Nash's place during his rookie season and had a hell of a game. If that's the case, then this really is the ideal swing man pickup.

Actually the one wrap on him is that he is injury prone. Only played fifty something games last year. (Oh, he also was involved in one of the nightclub incidents, but hey, that's what Pacers do).
