Forward Jonathan Isaac agreed to a five-year, $84-million contract extension and renegotiation with the Orlando Magic, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski

Huh.

That's a long extension for a guy who has averaged 29 games per season in his career.

?I don?t think the market is there for Darius Garland,? said Brian Windhorst on ESPN Cleveland radio. ?And I think Kobe Altman knows this. And he knew this even before Dejounte Murray got traded. I think it?s a terrible time to trade Darius Garland.?

Yeah.  Presumably it has a lot of non-guaranteed money.  It?s a renegotiation and extension, so I?m curious how much of a bump they gave him this year, and if they cut it back in future years.  Couldn?t figure out how to better use cap space, so pay him now and take back some savings in later years?

Is them finally replacing Shaun Livingston?

3yrs $27mil for Kyle Anderson.

Seems a bit rich at first. Near MLE money. I suppose it is closer to Pritchard money. That is not too bad for Slow-Mo.

They will have a fun small-ball lineup again with Slow-Mo and Draymond together as the bigs. Two guys who can both pass and dribble. Tough to matchup with.

I feel bad for Moses Moody. That dude just can't get a break. No matter how well he plays they will not give him the playing time he deserves.

First De'Anthony Melton.
Now Kyle Anderson.

Both guys cutting into his playing time.

Minnesota looking a bit light. Only 7 proven guys.

G: Conley
G: Ant, NAW
F: Jaden McDaniels
F: Towns, Naz
C: Gobert

Then Rob Dillingham as their 8th man. A couple of young end of bench guys who haven't played much. Not guys you feel confident about throwing into a playoff environment.

They need to start adding some vets to their bench. They have lost Monte Morris and Kyle Anderson. They had 9 guys. Now only 7.

Sacramento are looking at DeRozan. That would be fun.

G: D Fox, Devin Carter
G: Heurter, Monk, Keon Ellis
F: DeRozan, Jalen McDaniels (the bad one)
F: K Murray, H Barnes
C: Sabonis, T Lyles, A Len

I personally think the Kings need more defense, not more offense.

Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS

I don?t think you sign Kyle Anderson to make trading Jonathan Kuminga more palatable. I?m just saying if they trade Kuminga for Lauri now they still have Draymond, Wiggins and Anderson at forward. You?re covered for the short term.

What is the thinking there? Markkanen at center?

G: Steph, G Payton III
G: Podz, Melton
F: Wiggins, Moody
F: Draymond, Slow Mo
C: Markkanen, T Jackson-Davis

Looney, Kuminga and picks for Markkanen. Markkanen only earning $18mil. Maybe need to throw in G Payton if needed. He is replaceable.

Agreed. Short of that though. Opportunity strikes, take DeRozan. They have an issue at forward. Only two solid forwards with K Murray and H Barnes. DeRozan would reinforce that forward rotation. Give them three legit forwards.

Sacramento is linked to Markkanen as well. I imagine that would have to be built around Keegan Murray. Say K Murray and Huerter as a cap makeweight.

G: D Fox, Devin Carter
G: Keon Ellis, Monk
F: DeRozan, Jalen McDaniels (the bad one)
F: Markkanen, H Barnes
C: Sabonis, T Lyles, A Len

Now that is a fun team. I might start H Barnes and use DeRozan as a super sub scorer instead. H Barnes a better glue guy. Needs less of the ball.

John Hollinger @johnhollinger

Seems Orlando added $10 million to Isaac's 2024-25 salary with cap room, declined by maximum 40% to $16.44 million next year, and then had maximum 8% declines to land at $12.9 million by 2028-29. Total $85.3 million, of which $67.9 million is new money.

Only $13mil in 2029. That will be under the MLE then. Even the $16mil next year is about what a low starter / high end bench player can command.
