Chris Vernon @ChrisVernonShow

The extension Mike Conley signed in 2016 was the richest NBA deal at the time. That was 5 yrs, 153 million. I remember thinking ?guys are gonna make 30 million a year now?? Tatum just signed a deal for 5 yrs, 314 million. Wild. 🤯

Only 8yrs ago and the contracts have doubled.

The Lakers were aware that, thanks to the $16 million traded player exception Dallas created by moving Tim Hardaway Jr. to Detroit, this three-year, $50 million mark for Thompson was what they had to compete against

I was wondering how Dallas could afford an above MLE offer to Klay Thompson. Well done. Creative. They did something similar last year, didn't they? I forget what.

Was it that draft day trade to get Lively? They traded Bertans and Cason Wallace. Got a TPE for Bertans. Did they use that to sign Grant Williams? Which then turned into PJ Washington. An asset out of nothing. Lively was their guy at 10. Dropped two spots picked up a TPE which led to PJ Washington.

Same again this year to get Klay Thompson.

Markkanen is eligible for a contract extension in August. Rumour is that if that goes badly Utah may trade him away for a draft pick haul and reset their rebuilding process.

Utah have a strange roster

G: Keyonte George, J Clarkson
G: Colin Sexton
F: John Collins, Cody Williams
F: Lauri Markkanen, Taylor Hendricks
C: Walker Kessler, Drew Eubanks

They also have Isaiah Collier, Brian Sensabaugh & Kyle Filipkowski. Three interesting young players. Along with Cody Williams and Taylor Hendricks all coming off their bench. Keyonte George and Walker Kessler as youths in their starting lineup.

Lauri Markkanen and Colin Sexton as young veterans who can fit into a youth movement.

The only guy there I don't like is John Collins. He doesn't fit in with what they are doing. It would be great if they could trade him for a legit SF.

OKC made two moves that don't look flashy but made perfect sense for them (swapping Giddey for Caruso, then adding Hartenstein). That's a well built team that will continue to grow/improve and also, they still have tons of assets to potentially make more moves down the line if needed.

They feel like the true 2nd best team in the NBA currently behind Boston.

I think Hartenstein was a major add for them. Gives them additional size, rebounding, but also Hartenstein is a sneaky good passer and playmaker. Even though he's not a 3-point shooter, he can still stretch the floor a bit too and can be lethal that way. Now OKC could compete with the bigger teams as well (LAL, DEN, MIN).

Agreed, I think these moves also give OKC some much needed experience to help this group get to the next level.

OKC should be favorites coming out of the West..
Denver, Clippers & Golden State has done nothing to help themselves..Lakers still bad thank goodness unless they get DeRozen..Dallas getting Klay is so-so..Houston & Spurs should make playoffs

Boston favorite come out of East..
Knicks should be 2nd again? 76ers, Orlando, Milwaukee, Miami & Indiana should battle 3-7..
Don?t know what Chicago doing..Washington future look bright
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Josh Green... I remember when my sister and I were at Game 5 of the Finals, this dude was knocking down 3s and most of us in the section were like "oh god please no not some random guy tonight". Thankfully didn't matter at all

Source confirms multiple reports: Warriors get 2025 2nd round pick (least favorable DEN/PHI) and 2031 2nd round pick from DAL. Also told GSW did not want to add salary

So least favourable 2nd rounder of DEN or PHI. That is probably a 2nd rounder in the 50s. Worth nothing.

Then a 2031 2nd rounder for Dallas. 7 years away.

Tobias Harris to Detroit...gross

Really gross.

"Tobias Harris and the Detroit Pistons agreed to a two-year, $52 million contract after leaving the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski."

They're going to have a whole lot of hollow point scoring with him and Hardaway if they get minutes!
Harris seems like a good vet to add to a young team. Hard-working professional.  Good teammate.  No drama.  And he won't add much to their win total so they should be in the running for a top pick again.  Also that contract is easily tradeable.

Kris Dunn to the Clippers.

I presume he is the replacement for Westbrook once they find a trade to move him on. Another low usage offensive player for LAC.

G: Harden, K Dunn
G: T Mann, N Powell
F: Derrick Jones Jr, A Coffey
F: Kawhi, N Batum
C: Zubac, (Theis?)

After Harden and Kawhi, the only role player with above average usage is Norm Powell. Everyone else is low usage.

That is a lot for Harden & Kawhi to shoulder. Even more for just one of them to shoulder whenever the other one is out injured. Not much help there on offense for LAC.
