Okoro re-signed with Cleveland for 3yrs $38mil.

Not bad. MLE money or close to it. I am not sure he is worth the MLE but that should be tradable if they so wish down the road. Not too long either.

Knicks bolstered their depth by adding Landry Shamet and former Celtic Marcus Morris to their roster.

I can say that the reason I am a big Marcus Smart fan is based on what I have seen him do on the court.  Many of those playoff teams he was on that did not win a title, were overachieving teams.  It is too bad that he got injured last season, it fueled the bad Marcus narrative.  Memphis saw him as a valuable player, traded quite a bit to get him.

This is now an important season for him.  And for MEM.  I still believe in Marcus.

Yeah, I love Marcus, but somewhat like Westbrook (another guy who hasn't ever won a ring), he just cannot understand that he needs to lower his 3PAs per game.

There is always the possibility of the late career shooting birth like Kidd... but clock is kinda ticking.

I feel the league has outgrown him.

Suns waive Nassir Little.

It seems like there just isn't a place in the league anymore for guys who cant provide anything on offense, regardless of how spectacular they are on D. RIP to guys like Nassir Little, Matisse Thybulle, Andre Roberson, ect.

Smart ?

Smart isn't useless on offense.  He's a solid-to-good passer and ball-handler who can post up and occasionally penetrate.  When hot he can burn a team from outside; when not, he burns his own team.

Smart is destructive on offense. If he were a smarter offensive player - primarily knowing his role is not a distance shooter - he?d be an asset. Guy can drive, can finish, can pass, hits floaters. Probably could be an effective midrange shooter. But he hoists too often from three and his game also changes  to the team?s detriment when his team is up double digits. At least that?s how I saw him when he was here.

Yet the Celtics overachieved and went deep into the playoffs year after year with him as a high ranking player on the team. I'm somewhat surprised Smart has already reached Antoine Walker levels of lore after only a year of being gone, but I guess with him being injured last year and us cruising to a championship (with one of the easiest paths ever) makes it easy to denigrate a player who gave everything he had to our franchise.

When we traded Smart, he was a highly coveted player going for 2 1st round picks and a solid PG in Jones. He was an elite defensive player and our leading playmaker with a diverse offensive arsenal. He wasn't an amazing 3 point shooter, but he wasn't the worst. And that was with him always being willing to heave end of the quarter/shot clock 3s. Dude didn't care about stats, he cared about winning. I can't wait to see him ball out for Memphis this year.

Smart is one the most overrated Celtics I?ve seen & I?ve seen every season since the mid 80?s. He?s so many people?s binki that?s why people keep trying to justify this guy. If I?m not mistaken he holds the record for most playoff games with Celtics without winning a title. I don?t think that?s a coincidence. In order to win a title everybody has to know their role and you can?t have guys thinking and acting that they?re better than they are. He always thought he was. It hurt the team. We just saw the polar opposite of him in Derek white? white is a guy more people should admire, not Marcus smart . Good riddance to him, glad I never have to see him put on a Celtic uniform again.
This is quite possibly the least meaningful measures of a player's ability I've ever read on a sports blog or forum... and that's in the face of some steep competition.

Kings sign Doug McDermott.

I am surprised he lasted all the way through the off-season until now. Sacramento also traded away Jalen McDaniels to San Antonio for a 2nd round pick. So McDermott will be replacing him.

I am expecting the Kings to line up like so:

G: D Fox, Devin Carter, J McLaughlin
G: K Ellis, M Monk
F: K Murray, K Huerter
F: D DeRozan, D McDermott
C: D Sabonis, T Lyles, A Len

Devin Carter is currently injured. Expected back sometime in the New Year. They also have Colby Jones at SG, last year's rookie.

Sacramento are super small at the two forward positions. All 4 of those guys are natural SFs. None of them are PFs. Huerter is more a SG than a SF. K Murray and McDermott both finesse forwards unsuited to playing PF. DeRozan too small.

Quite small at SG too with a pair of combo guards at SG. They are going to have a lot of defensive problems next year. Probably be one of the worst defensive clubs in the league.

When White had that amazing put back at the buzzer I?m sure the 2nd option was to pass it directly back to White who was wide open after the inbounds. Nope. A hero ball heave from Smart. I?m so glad he?s gone. I?d love him on an arch rival. I could t stand him here. Clearly he had a personality you had to cater to. White was the better offensive and defensive player that year and you see the box score and it?s smart with 36 mins snd white with 24.
He was a POTENTIAL locker room problem at the least if you don?t cater to him. I HOPE he goes to the Knicks. Woukd love to eliminate his team.

I think it's totally reasonable for you to root against Smart if you want to, but I don't think holding his tenure with the team against him is particularly clever.

People are sleeping on Smart and the Grizzlies. Remember, that was a great team in 2022 that was just decimated with injuries and off the court drama (Morant), but assuming they can stay mostly intact the Grizzlies should be a Top-5 team in the West IMO and a tough out.

Excited to see how they look.

Spurs waive Jalen McDaniels.

Good 3rd string forward for someone.

He played well against us at the home game I went to in December last year. He's bigger than you realize.

Giannis thoughts on if he fails to win another chip- ?Yeah, if we don?t win a championship, I might get traded. This is the job we live. This is the world we?re living in. It?s everybody. At any given moment, if you don?t succeed, that might be it for us. ...If you don?t do a good enough job, you?re out.? via The Athletic

Hmmmmm will Brad try to make some cap space for him? Tho he could set his eyes to team up with Bronny James or go to the Warriors or stack with the Knicks. Or make a twin tower of Wemby and Giannis in San Antonio

A Giannis-Wemby frontcourt in San Antonio would actually be very terrifying
