Will the wizards win 15 games this season?

Bottom of the east is putrid. Washington, Toronto, Nets, bulls, pistons, hornets are all bad.

Guess we can pencil in Miami vs Atlanta
For the play in game

Yeah, I think it'll be much the same as last year for Washington. 15-67 last season.

G: Brogdon, Bub Carrington
G: Jordan Poole, C Kispert, Johnny Davis
F: Coulibaly, K George, S Bey (injured)
F: Kuzma, Mo Bagley
C: Valanciunas, A Sarr, R Holmes

They do not have a single above average starter. Not sure they even have an average starter. Poole one of the worst starters in the league.

The bench has three rookies in it. A 3rd stringer at SG. A below average backup PF in Mo Bagley. Likely to be one of the worst benches in the NBA.

Suns

G: B Beal, T Jones, M Morris
G: Grayson Allen, Damion Lee
F: D Booker, R O Neale

Or go with true PGs

G: T Jones, M Morris
G: Beal, Grayson Allen, D Lee
F: D Booker, R O Neale
F: Durant, Okogie
C: Nurkic, Mason Plumlee

Others: Bol Bol, N Little, Ryan Dunn, D Roddy

I would like to see them move Bradley Beal into a 6th man role. It is hard to spread the touches / shots around with all 3 of Beal, D Booker and Durant in the same lineup. Let Beal become more of a Manu Ginobili and let Booker & Durant be Timmy D & Tony Parker.

G: T Jones, M Morris
G: Grayson Allen, B Beal
F: D Booker, R O Neale
F: Durant, Okogie
C: Nurkic, Mason Plumlee

That would be one of the best benches in the league. Beal is obviously a star. Monte Morris a solid backup PG. R O'Neale a strong backup SF. Okogie a solid bench forward. Mason Plumlee a solid bench big. Good all-round bench.

Let Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen be efficiency boosters in the starting lineup playing off of Durant & Booker. Tyus Jones minimizing turnovers and making enough shots to keep defenses honest and Grayson Allen as top notch perimeter shooter. Nurkic as an efficient inside scorer and high post passer.

Tyus Jones said he will be their starting PG after conversations with head coach Mike Budenholzer.

So I presume this means Grayson Allen will head to the bench.

G: Tyus Jones, M Morris
G: B Beal, Grayson Allen
F: D Booker, R O Neale
F: Durant, Okogie
C: Nurkic, Mason Plumlee

Is Tyus Jones any better than Monte Morris?

They seem similar to me. Low mistake PGs. Low creativity both in scoring & playmaking. More setup guards. Below average but adequate defenders. Low volume outside shooters.

Even if you focus only on rate stats, Jones was much more efficient.

Interesting to change the comparison to over a few years. The stats get a lot closer. From 2021-24.

https://stathead.com/basketball/versus-finder.cgi?request=1&seasons_type=forall&year_min=2021&player_id1=jonesty01&player_id2=morrimo01

Shooting = 47.5% to 45.5% in favour of M Morris
3PT% = 38.8% to 38% for Morris
FTs = 2 per game at roughly 82% for both
TS% = 57.4% to 54.8% for Morris

On the per 36 minute stats, both around 14.5pts per 36. Same number of rebounds. Tyus Jones advantage in assists at 8 per 36 to 5.6 per 36 for Morris. Similar number of turnovers.

Tyus Jones does better in those advanced stats. VORP 5.3 to 3.0 in about ~17% extra minutes. BPM 1.2 for Tyus to 0.1 for Morris. OBPM is 1.1 for Tyus to 0.5 for Morris with DBPM 0.1 for Tyus to -0.4 for Morris.

Speculations of Darius Garland being traded to Lakers?

https://www.si.com/nba/cavaliers/news/cleveland-cavaliers-trade-darius-garland-to-lakers-in-wild-proposal-01j3qq00w9ky

If I were the Cavs I?d do it for Reaves, Knecht, and their 2029 and 2031 picks. Wouldn?t accept any less.

2 picks isn?t enough. Knecht is a nice prospect but Reaves is not very good. 4 picks minimum in my opinion.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I would genuinely love if the Lakers traded DLo and two future unprotected 1sts for Garland. Garland is probably a slight upgrade, but the Lakers didn't even make it out of the 1st round last year and Garland hasn't exactly had a major impact on winning with the Cavs. DLo was actually really good for the Lakers last year - they wouldn't just be trading salary filler.

Anything to ensure the Lakers future is also ruined is a win in my book. Trade those future 1sts LA

Small trade

Quote
The Phoenix Suns are set to acquire forward E.J. Liddell from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for forward David Roddy.

The Suns are expected to waive Liddell after acquiring him.

How is garlands defense? Is it as bad as dlo? I think this would probably be a good value trade for the Cavs but how to they justify to their stars like Mitchell and Mobley and Allen doing a downgrade for future picks?

Achuiwa did well. Knicks gave him $6mil one year to keep him. I didn't think he'd get more than the minimum.

Starters

G: J Brunson
G: M Bridges
F: OG Anunoby
F: J Randle
C: M Robinson

Bench

G: M McBride, T Kolek, Cam Payne
G: D DiVincenzo
F: J Hart, P Dadiet
F: K Bates-Diop
C: P Achuiwa, J Sims

i think they are keeping in mind aggregation of salaries to get a better center if one comes available?like Valančiūnas

Portland sign Devonte Graham.

It looks like he will be their backup PG.

G: Scoot, D Graham
G: A Simons, S Sharpe
F: Avdija, Thybulle, Banton
F: Jerami Grant, Kris Murray
C: Ayton, Rob Williams, D Clingan

Some rumours that Portland intend to trade either A Simons or J Grant before the start of the season. I am surprised they haven't traded one of their two veteran centers to clear the way for Clingan.
