Shams: Porzingis to Boston?

I'm fine with not having a handshake agreement in place. Ultimately, Zinger is receiving a substantial payment for one year. It's a great opportunity to test if everything goes well. If it doesn't work out, the Celtics can easily move on. The trade involves Marcus Smart for two first-round picks and a trial period with Kristaps Porziņģis, and I approve of it.

Marcus held a significant influence in the locker room and had seniority over Tatum and Brown. I anticipate that Tatum will now fill that role. This team belongs to him now. He's the only player who is off-limits.

I would think there already is a handshake deal in place for an extension. Brad wouldn’t risk doing this trade if it wasn’t the case. It would be interesting to see if JB will get the supermax. In Mike Zarren we trust.

Brown is definitely getting the supermax

Why? Is Brown more interested in successful or solely focused on maximizing his earnings? If the Celtics don't offer him the super max and he becomes a free agent, he would receive a conventional maximum contract for four years. So, what if the Celtics offered him a little more than a conventional maximum contract for five years instead, enabling them to allocate funds towards acquiring other talented players and maintaining the team's competitiveness? This is an aspect that both Brown and Tatum should contemplate.

If things don't go as planned, you still have the option to sign and trade him. What if Porziņģis gets a major injury? Then he becomes impossible to trade, and you'll have a maximum contract that sits unused, taking up all your available salary cap space after Tatum and Brown. That would be bad

This makes sense for us, and is mainly why I’ve been beating the KAT drum this offseason. Tatum and Brown don’t play off each other , and Tatum’s best P&R’s were with Horford or Rob. We need a big who’s an offensive threat and I figured KAT was one of the top options out there.

Having KP gives Tatum (and Brown) that terrific big man offensive option to play p&r with, as opposed to someone like Horford who is arguably only a three point threat now.

In keeping with the trend, the Celtics became softer today.

Will miss Smart. It's going to be difficult watching an even more mentally weak team. Hopefully Brown is out sooner than later.

These playoffs made me even more grateful for the IT years. Those teams were fun and played above expectation. The playoff exits were inevitable but never embarrassing. It was easy to feel proud of IT and co.

Well said. This team struggles with mental discipline to stay focused and play the right way.
With Mazzulla as coach and the trades we are making, the team is moving even further away from the physical/hard working/defensive-identity group we used to have. I have zero confidence in Joe Mazzulla and hitching our fate to his wagon was a huge mistake.

Those players developed when the team was in more of the building mode.
Now, we are a title contender and the younger guys sit more. Plus Mazzulla isn't going to develop anyone as far as I can tell.

Late round picks almost all flop you know this. Rozier was nice trade bait I guess. Timelord fell for the same problems he currently has. Mazzulla won’t play them even if they show up early anyways.

Wow!! My jaw hit the floor when I woke up this morning! Went to bed and thought Brogdon was going to clippers..now woke up with Smart going to Memphis !!! What happen overnight???
