In 30 minutes per game, Paul George is averaging 21pts/6rebs/4ast/2stls with shooting splits of 47/41/88. Not too shabby.

I'm not suggesting that PG will have a better season this year than JB but its fun to compare so far:

PG -  30.4m/g - 21.4pts - 6.0rebs - 4.4asts - 2.4stls    shooting splits  - 46.9/41/88.2
JB -   36.7m/g - 19.8pts - 6.2rebs - 4.2asts - 1.3stls    shooting splits  - 43.6/37.5/73.3

I'm surprised by how productive each has been.  PG is thriving as a clear #2 option, while Brown has excelled splitting touches with three other stars.

Two good players but PG is a revelation in green in his first 8 games. His D is superior still, and his offense has been extremely productive. Love his demeanor on the court. And love how the team is moving the ball this year. And Tatum has been phenomenal since the game 1 debacle. The two midrange shots today when he came in in the 4th were game changing and most importantly, smart.

Old man PG (when healthy enough to play) is a better fit alongside Tatum than JB. JB is a better player in a vacuum but PG is steadier, less usage-hungry, less-TO prone, and better off the ball on both sides of the floor.

Ive compared building around Tatum to building around Dirk and I think PG fits the Shawn Marion shell better than JB did.

I hope we can have PG for a good part of the season, but most especially the playoffs.

Dick Lipe: Jayson Tatum is the 1st Celtic to take 54 FTA in a 4-game span since Paul Pierce in 2008.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Is he, though? JB is obviously younger at 30 years of age,  but for this season and next, if both guys are healthy, I?d give the edge to PG13.

Scoring edge goes to JB, he is an excellent ISO player. After that, though? Shooting from the field, FT line, and 3pt all go to George. Same with passing, rebounding, defense, BBIQ, ball handling.

In the context of this team, I would choose PG. He has excelled beside Tatum.

If we were drafting for a new franchise to play even just one year, and our first pick had to be either JB or PG, wouldnt you want JB?

If both guys were guaranteed to play the same amount of games, I?d take PG13 for one year. The knock on George is his age and availability. We are seeing what he can do when healthy. It is impressive.

I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised at the early returns of PG13.  He looks different this year.  Leaving Philly seems to have that affect on players.  Embiid is just as polarizing of a player as JB.  I love JB.  He won us a championship but his off the court antics, twitch streaming and lack of awareness wore on me.  I'm more disappointed in our Center play then I am anything else.  I thought our offensive rebounding would be elite but it's been a joke thus far.

As for PG.  Same age I'd take PG13 over JB 100% of the time.  At this age I think PG's skill set is better suited for Tatum.  JB was to similar.  He's a lesser version of Tatum even thought he thinks he's the superior version of him.

PG13

PER
= 21.4 = highest since 2019 when he finished 3rd for MVP with OKC. He had two more 20+ PER seasons in 2020 and 2021. None since.

Win Shares / 48 = 0.185 = highest since that season 2018-19 season with OKC. PG13 has not had a win shares per 48 above 0.150 since his first year in LAC.

TS%
= 60% = highest since 2023-24 his final year with LAC. 2nd highest of his career. That is interesting. So he has only broken 60% TS once before in his career. Oooh, just missed out once at 59.8% and had 3-4 years at about 59%.

The general feel of the offense is different this year. And better. I thought PG was going to be third or fourth offensive option and he?s clearly number 2. The ball moves, Tatum is driving rather than relying on step backs, and in so doing he?s looking like an MVP candidate.  PG has been like adding a bigger and better DW to the roster.

I think the biggest change is something that has nothing to do with PG:  Tatum is driving and getting to the lane more.  In a very small sample size, he's shooting the most FTs he ever has and is taken the least number of threes since his sophomore season.

It's the Tatum we've all wanted.  I think he's out to prove something, but I also think he could have done with JB.  It's been a flaw in JT's game for awhile now, settling for bad shots and avoiding doing the hard work on a regular basis.

Now, we've got 76 games left to see if it's real.  So far, the five teams we've beaten a combined six wins.  It hasn't been a rough road yet.  I think that we'll have a better idea of what we're looking at 20 games in.

The MVP questions or speculation is fair.  It could be a good year for Tatum to contend with all the injuries and with some top players seeming to have regressed some. Wembanyama, Doncic and SGA are still the favorites over Tatum who is 4th in betting odds, but I feel there is a real opportunity for him.  Certainly top 3 is a very real possibility.  LAL and OKC teams may not have great records.

Tatum currently leads his team in Points, Rebounds, and Assists, a triple crown of sorts.  Doncic actually does also.  Tatum is actually is down in rebounding and tied with George at exactly 36 rebs (6.0 per game).  Rebounding has not been good.  Giving up too many ORebs.

NBA Communications: San Antonio Spurs forward-center Victor Wembanyama and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 2 of the 2026-27 season (Oct. 26-Nov. 1).

Excellent - well-deserved!   Hope this provides reinforcement for playing the way he?s been playing. He?s been terrific.
