A comment and a question...

If JB demanded that he "be treated equal to Tatum" I can see that being an issue.  JB has every right to demand that.  He probably feels like Tatum's big brother a bit. He's won the big post season awards.  He led the Celts last year to a great record without JT.

But the Celtics always feature(d) Tatum over Brown.  From being the star of the jumbotron, to the last starter announced, to their PR/Marketing.  It had to eat at Brown, but at the same time I don't see the Celtics wanting to change what they do.

Second, these new reports say that Brown "even contacted his teammates about trying to team up there" in Milwaukee.  What does that mean?  To "team up" there?

Are they saying that Brown contacted the other guys rumored to be part of the Giannis trade and said "Hey, let's go do some good things there" or something similar?

If so, why is that even noteworthy?  It sounds magnanimous of a guy who's getting traded after leading his team to a title.

Tatum has several all NBA first team while Brown has none, nuff said about who is the alpha. And remember when Tatum went down in 2023 vs the Heat? Where was JB when the team needed him the most to step up? There were a few instances of these too where JB could not lead when it really mattered.

Tatum deserves to be the alpha and no. 1 man on the team. Brown has always been the little brother during his tenure here.

It sounds like Brown is just dense he got traded lol

NBACentral: Brian Scalabrine goes OFF on Jaylen Brown 😳 Jaylen Brown wants to be the victim in all of this, and this is the way he?s doing it now. He?s using me, or his PR team, or whatever it is, to play the victim, and he?s not going to take responsibility for it. That?s fine?I just feel like he wants to say whatever he wants, and he doesn?t want to be held accountable, just like on his Twitch. He wants his legacy to remain intact, and he?s not going to take responsibility for the other stuff that he brings up. And this is just the beginning of it.

So now JB is using his own PR team? Why not just go on livestream.

Kris Rhim: A representative from Jaylen Brown?s team told ESPN that reports that he demanded a trade or presented the Celtics with a list of demands are ?10000% a lie.? Brown never requested a trade to Milwaukee, the representative said. After the deal fell through and Boston informed him he?d be traded, his only request was to have input on his destination.

Dude needs to let it go. He's getting more angry, more resentful, and more defensive. That is only going to erode his internal motivation and future success.

He was a titan of work ethic and character, but he's looking more and more petty.

It happened. It's done. He's on a championship contender. Go win a championship and prove the Celtics were dumb.

I think JB has always had a gigantic chip on his shoulder.  Why do you think this will erode his internal motivation? I think this stuff fuels him.

Resentment doesn't fuel. It saps.

Those seem like wise words.  I think in this case (Brown), he can use some level of external factors to his advantage, meaning productive motivation.  People doubt me so I will show them.  That sort of thing.  But all this "he said/she said" stuff, and the social media posts and comments, I don't feel that all this will be productive.  I can see that it may start to switch from fueling to sapping.

If he asked for my advise, I would tell him to let it go and focus on basketball.  Just stop answering questions about it and stop commenting on what Tatum (or anyone else) says.  Just have a pat answer, loved my time in Boston, wasn't easy to deal with how it ended, respect Tatum and the organization, but I am here (in PHI) now and that is my focus.

I agree with your advice from my perspective, and most reasonable people's.  It's a distraction, at best.  But I disagree with DWC's statement that resentment *always* saps.  JB has been motivated by resentment for nine years.  He still brings up the response from fans when he was drafted.  I think he's going to keep focusing on whatever it is that makes him feel aggrieved.

Listen to anything MJ ever said and tell me that resentment didn't fuel that man, lol.

We're wired in different ways.  What works for one doesn't work for another.

Regarding the Scal comment:  it's time for him to pipe down.  He got caught in a lie and he's still trying to stir the pot.  A better discussion point would be whether Scal has burned any credibility he possessed in propagating this fiasco.

The antics of Drew Carter and Scal reflect on the entire Celtics organization, not just them individually.  Hard to imagine Mike Gorman ever being party to this nonsense like this.  If JB wants to look a fool, let him do it by himself.

I get it, it can be a spectrum.  Somewhere in the range of 100% fueling to 100% sapping.  When he got booed by fans at the draft, that lead to him working hard and being focused on basketball.  This more recent stuff is leading to social media spats and him trying to show he is the man or whatever.  I see the potential for this current stuff to get him on the wrong path.  More worried about proving he is the man more than Tatum is the man (which he isn't).  It is only 4 games since the trade so hard to judge how much fueling vs. sapping, but I do not see all this stuff as all good from a purely basketball performance perspective.

Getting booed at the draft didn't fuel resentment. He didn't harbor that against the fans in spite and hate. Instead, he used it as motivation to try to win them over. He got a chip on his shoulder to go to work and prove the fans wrong about him so he could win them over. He wasn't holding onto negativity and bitterness. He didn't feel the need to control a narrative and put someone else down.

What he's doing right now is the opposite. He's trying to ruin Tatum's reputation. He's resentful. He's spiteful. He's angry about what happened. He's not using it as fuel to dominate in his role on the Sixers. In fact, if anything, he's taken a step back in his efficiency and defense, even though those are areas he can specialize in now.

His resentment is sapping him. It's making him less than he was, not more. And it's really sad to me, because I loved Brown since the draft. His attitude and work ethic was inspiring to me in a lot of ways, and I held him up as an example to my son to teach him about work ethic. But now he is acting in a petty and small way.

Just for laughs I decided to take a look at Brown and George 4 games into the season.  It's really early in the season and these stats could change substantially by the end of the year.  However, so far PG is not playing like a 36 year old and I am extremely pleased with his game.  Sorry for the messy chart, I'm not very good at putting stats together for a post.

                                            Paul George          Jaylen Brown
Games Played / Started               4 / 4                4 / 4
Minutes Per Game                       31.3                36.8      Tatum  -  36.3

I think a number of PGs turnovers have been due to miscommunication with players who haven?t yet mastered how to play together.  The steals for PG is impressive, he?s such a smart, versatile, active defender.   I?m also guessing JBs TO rate is reduced at least in part because he?s controlling the ball less. Fewer of those agonizing over-dribble iso events.

On the all time favorite Celtic list for me.  He?s just so much fun to watch and see the development, and he obviously puts in the work.  The disappearing acts a little puzzling sometimes, but the magic moments are so [dang] fun to watch.

In 30 minutes per game, Paul George is averaging 21pts/6rebs/4ast/2stls with shooting splits of 47/41/88. Not too shabby.

I'm not suggesting that PG will have a better season this year than JB but its fun to compare so far:

PG -  30.4m/g - 21.4pts - 6.0rebs - 4.4asts - 2.4stls    shooting splits  - 46.9/41/88.2
JB -   36.7m/g - 19.8pts - 6.2rebs - 4.2asts - 1.3stls    shooting splits  - 43.6/37.5/73.3

Here's hoping he can stay on the court.  The guy has been an absolute pro out there.  He just carries himself exactly as you'd hope a veteran guy would.  And of course the productivity is nice too.  He is a real calming presence out there so far.
