Cancel culture is communism.  I don't care how ridiculous anyone's stance is. I support anyone's ability to say whatever they wish.

To say whatever they wish without consequence?

That's what they call a democracy. Freedom of speech as a foundation.
Without absolute freedom of speech a democracy will fail.
Like it's falling everywhere in North-America and Europe.

Cancel culture is communism (excellent remark bij KG LL).
It's in fact cultural marxism.

TP Rody for seeing the big picture.

The entire argument is nonsensical.

Free speech means that you can say what you want without the government punishing you.  It doesn’t mean that private citizens will give bigots a free pass.

If we’re making economic analogies, let the free market decide.  Here, the market has determined that antisemitism isn’t desirable.

I hate talking politics on a sports forum, but the notion that ’cancel culture’ has killed free speech…is rubbish.

From a historical perspective, American’s have never had it so good in regards to freedom of speech.

During WWII, American citizens were locked up in interment camps simply for having Japanese heritage. During the Cold War, just being suspected of having socialist ideologies, would have you blacklisted for life.

Narcissists,  Machvelions,  and psychopaths want cancel culture. They call it the dark triad.

Nothing is more important than your reputation.  People try to game the reputation system.

While many agree that cancel culture is very dangerous and must stop, the same is true of antisemitism. Frankly, cancel culture has been so out of control, people jumping on people for RELATIVELY minor transgressions (like telling a joke about females), that we now see literally one of the biggest musicians on the planet espousing antisemitism…Definitely not what was intended by this cancel culture environment, or presumably that is the case, but here we stand, with truly disgusting behavior/comments from Kanye and people defending him. Cancel culture has been so out of control that it is creating an environment of increasingly disturbing behavior/theories becoming more common and defended. If so much seems so wrong, and one mistake is treated the same as literally espousing Nazi-esque ideas, then should we be surprised when the real monsters and monstrous ideas come out and become more prevalent/defended until they literally wipe out everything we all hold dear?

We need to return to common sense sanity. Obviously it’s absurd to treat someone saying what Kanye said the same as someone who simply shared a joke about women, for example. Stop cancelling people for the latter and the like, so everyone can unite to stop the former—so most everyone can unite to stop the truly dangerous ideas that threaten everything.

Bill Maher is making the case far more eloquently: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vo8t86Fi2JQ

 Good points GreenlyGreeny tp

Lex interviews Kanye here. Lex is Jewish and a great interviewer.  He pushes back in a classic way.

Can we please close this thread so we can move on from Jaylen’s lapse in judgment earlier today?

A lapse in judgment? Kanye's been on a downward spiral for awhile now. Jaylen knew who he was going into business with. Kanye said that slavery was a choice in 2018.

2018. 4 years ago. In the time since, his behavior has deriorated significantly. But Kanye was a billionaire, right?  Jaylen had the full picture of the person he chose to go into business with. Stop coddling a grown man and hold him a accountable.

What’s funny is I’m being told to stop coddling JB. Look, I was all over this Donda nonsense during the NBA Finals precisely because I know what kind of disaster Kanye is. JB is a young man who’s allowed to make mistakes. When he was a pre-teen, Kanye was a big star that nobody knew was such a mess. We can forgive JB for this lapse in judgment. He quickly changed his mind earlier today and severed his ties. Leave JB alone 🤣

What are talking about? Lol. Greenly, you yourself have said you didn't like the deal from the beginning. Why is that? Because Kanye has been a hot mess for long time.  We can call a spade a spade. No one is really surprised by Kanye's antics because he's been telling us who he was for years. But Jaylen saw an opportunity to make money by teaming up with someone who has blatant red flags. Kanye had denigrated his community long before Jaylen (who proclaimed to support that same community) signed with him.

You wouldn't have signed with Kanye. I wouldn't have signed with Kanye. Most here wouldn't have signed with Kanye. Let's stop acting like Jaylen tripped and fell into a contract without the benefit of public knowledge.

I'm not saying we should go after him with a pitchfork. But Kanye's financial outlook majorly changed earlier today. Forbes doesn't classify him as a billionaire anymore because Adidas booted him. Suddenly, the guy Jaylen was going to make money with isn't quite as valuable anymore. And a mere twelve hours later, Jaylen made a 180. That's not benevolence. That's a business decision disguised by PR.

Not sure why this is even a debate anymore.  Brown made his decision.  Took action.

West is free to say what he wants about Jewish people.  His clients are free to decide not to do business with him based on those comments.  I don't see this as a case of Brown being pressured to do this.  West made his choice to say what he wanted to say and Brown made his choice to take his business elsewhere.

There can be a limit to the counter culture thing if it is people trying to impose their views on others.  Someone telling me that I should not shop somewhere or whatever because someone else doesn't like the politics of the owner of the shop.  It is fair for someone to say, hey, are you aware that this owner said this or that and let me decide.

I don't think anyone pressured Brown.  He seems like the type of guy that can make that decision on his own just fine.

This may be one of the least thoughtful comments that I’ve read on here in a long time (which says something).

Cancel culture doesn’t create hate.

Oh really? Because it’s clearly led to this, one of the biggest musicians on the planet going from controversially stating “white lives matter” to now espousing antisemitism in an effort to normalize it. It’s all a byproduct of this rigid cancel culture.

Think about it this way: If the law states the punishment for robbing a bank is life in prison, and that is the same as the punishment for murder, what do you think is far more likely to happen in that universe during bank robberies? Murder, of course, as some robbers will do whatever it takes now to escape capture since the consequences of killing people is no different than the consequences of robbing a bank. This is also why environments with harsh punishments sometimes have worse levels of violent crimes than more forgiving environments (or at least places that do not treat robbery with violence the same as robbery without violence).

When a society punishes minor transgressions the same as the worst of the worst, which is basically what this cancel culture environment is starting to resemble, we will inevitably get massive backlash at the same time as the rise of the worst of the worst, including an expansion of really dangerous ideas such as antisemitism. This is happening right now and would not be happening if not for cancel culture/extreme-holier-than-thou-wokeness.

In contrast, a more forgiving environment for minor transgressions such as sharing an off-color joke about women, is an environment where we can really ostracize the monsters/monstrous ideas like antisemitism. Let’s return to such common sense sanity please. Less judgment and more forgiveness will bring back common sense sanity, a place where we still ostracize the worst of the worst instead of treating people who commit minor transgressions the same as the worst and the worst (because we are seeing what happens when we foolishly do not delineated between levels of bad behavior/ideas). That’s how we can progress incrementally and eventually have love, peace and understanding throughout society (as older, more biased generations/ideas die off over time), instead of a backlash like we are seeing right now that has the potential to cause fascism to make a massive comeback (and yes, they will eventually come for a group you belong to, too, regardless of who you may be - the fascists won’t stop with illegal immigrants, they won’t stop with socialists, they won’t stop with Jewish people, etc.).

Cancel culture is communism.  I don't care how ridiculous anyone's stance is. I support anyone's ability to say whatever they wish.

This is some of the most clownish stuff you've ever come up with. "It's cancel culture that made Kanye an antisemite, not Kanye"

You are truly delusional, as well as grossly offensive, for trying to equate cancel culture with fascism. It is hard to comprehend that people who think like you actually exist.
