I'm a bit shocked at how much value New Orleans gave up for Jrue Holiday.  Maybe Ainge was shocked, too, and decided to check again to see what is out there.  If he is set on a trade, he should probably hold out for at least what the 76ers got and otherwise wait for Rondo to be healthy.

Didn't Orlando come out and say the Holiday deal wasn't on the table for them?

Would they give up Nicholson and an unprotected 2014 for Rondo?

Would we take back Hedo's contract?

I don't really care if I'm the only one.  If that team makes the playoffs, for me, it will be almost as special as winning a title in 2008.

so...

approx .500 record, the 8th seed and swept out of the first round = biggest turnaround in NBA history, Pierce outdueling Lebron in a gm7 classic, largest comeback in history against the Lakers, beating the Lakers in the Finals, "anything is possible" and Banner 17

um, no.

You guys must have missed the part where I wrote, "I don't really care if I'm the only one."

So, yeah, not to be rude, but I don't care what the rest of you are rooting for.  I'm rooting for my Celtics to win basketball games led by what I expect to be a really fired up point guard.

Then don't post your opinions to a public forum.

lol, was just about to say.

And if we're going by the math of playoffs = championship, then I guess that means we must've won what, an equivalent of 6 championships in the past 6 years?  ;D last year was especially exciting because we just barely made it too.

I don't know where you are getting the equation that playoffs=championships from.

I don't think we are likely to be a championship contender next season, but I do think we have a good chance at making the playoffs.  And, that's what I'll be hoping for.

You may not agree with my position, but there's nothing wrong with the math.

I agree it looks like a lot on paper.

But on the one hand Holliday is an experienced leader, and they need some vets now to steady the youngens. On the other, Holliday is still really young for his skill level -- he has a lot of great years ahead of him. Sometimes a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush, especially when you have a bunch of young lottery players on your team already.

lol... this shouldn't be surprising for anyone.  Right around the time we heard our first "doc might coach the clippers" rumor, it was clear Boston was in full-blown tank mode (the right move)...  Rondo isn't conducive to a tank job.  He's good enough to play us out of the lotto but not good enough to lead a champion.

I really can't imagine anyone would be interested in trading for a busted PG with a torn ACL, though.   That's interesting.  Not sure what we could get for him... but it's possible he has more trade value now while people still think he's a "playoff superstar" than next season when he comes back hobbling with a torn ACL on a dreadful Celtic team.  So Maybe you pull the trigger on whatever you can get... It would be nice to have another 2014 lotto pick, but I can't see it happening.

Nobody still thinks he's a "playoff superstar". You killed that myth when you accurately predicted that the Celts wouldn't miss a beat on offense without him in the playoffs.

...at least that's your story, and you're *clearly* sticking with it.

Quoted for truth. The Celtics offense in the playoffs this past season was awesome.

why trade rondo, at his lowest value, if he doesnt have to play next year?

So is this going to be the longest recovery ever in the history of ACL tears? Also, does anyone think Rondo would be fine just sitting around for an entire season when he is healthy? I don't. He is far too competitive. He is going to want out of Boston and Danny should be searching out deals right now.

My crazy dream scenario:

Celtics get Tyreke Evans, kings 2014 1st round pick

Kings get Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Fab Melo, Clippers 1st round pick 2015

And

Celtics get Gordon Hayward

Jazz get Jeff Green and a 2nd round pick

Then we find away to get rid of Lee, Bass, and Wallace for picks and cap space

We get the worst record in the nba and the kings get the 2nd worst

In the 2014 draft/offseason we get the 1st 2 pick and draft Wiggins and Jabari Parker. We will have cap space to sign Demarcus Cousins. With the nets pick, we draft Aaron Harrison.

2014-2015 starters:
Pg Tyreke Evans 18 ppg 7 apg
Sg Gordon Hayward 12 ppg
Sf Andrew Wiggins 20 ppg
Pf Jabari Parker 15 ppg 8 rpg
C Demarcus Cousins 23 ppg 11 rpg

Bench:
A point guard
Aaron Harrison
A small foward
Jared Sullinger
Kelly Olynk

Future dynasty !

Your dream scenario actively wastes the 2nd pick in a stacked draft and gives us a terrible player in Tyreke. While most dream scenarios suffer from being too unrealistic, your scenario is unique in that it actually hurts the Celtics. Well done.

Bonus for Philly: they traded away their best player and (assuming Bynum doesn't return and dominate) now have quite the tank-ready squad themselves, with Noel being out for a while too.

I think that might be another reason they were up for this trade.

Ok.  Julius Randle instead of Jabari Parker  ....and Tyreke Evans is not terrible. He was great his rookie season and its not like players his age that didn't suffer a major injury get worse. He plays well as a PG and i believe he is still a really good player.

Actually, we were better in the playoffs without Rondo.

In my first experiment, I used a time machine to prevent Rondo's ACL injury... We stayed at below .500 and missed the playoffs entirely.

Then in a second test, I used a dimension rift to put healthy Rondo on our 2013 playoff team... Jeff Green just stood around waiting for the ball and the Knicks swept us.

Glad to see you're adding a little reality to your posts. When the Celts were setting records for offensive ineptitude in the playoffs some posters claimed that the claim that the team didn't need Rondo was finally put to rest. I commented that they were overestimating many of the posters here. You're single-handedly proving my point.

By the way, if you saw the playoffs you would have noticed that Jeff Green *doesn't* need to have the ball in his hands a lot to be successful. In fact the opposite is pretty much true. He does very well when someone swings the ball to him and he can either shoot the ball or drive past the guy who's moving towards him.

He doesn't do as well when he has the ball in his hands and has to create his shot when the defense is right in front of him. His synergy numbers will make that pretty clear if you take a look at them. He also doesn't create for others when he has the ball, his assist rate is about half of what PP's is. I'd guess your assessment of Green's game was made based on your wanting to claim he's not a good fit with Rondo more than on watching him play.

You are right. Philly won the bejesus out of this trade. This time next year they could be realistically be looking at a roster consisting of Nerlens Noel, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Thad Young, and two max players. Boy would that make the race to the bottom worth it.

Wow... when it was first reported it said Philly sent out Holiday and a 2014... but it was the other way around:

Quote
The New Orleans Pelicans traded center Nerlens Noel and a 2014 protected first-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for point guard Jrue Holiday, league sources told ESPN.com.

WOW... Seriously?  Wow.   I know Holiday has more trade value than Rondo, but that's insane... the best player in the draft + a 2014 for a 23 year old PG.  As Noel was slipping I was like, "Trade Rondo and the #16 for him!! trade Rondo and the #16 for him!!"... and yet Holiday fetches Noel AND a 2014 pick from the Pelicans?  Holy crap.  DEFINITELY trade rondo if he has anywhere NEAR the kind of trade value that Holiday has.

I guess the Boston management was planning to trade Rondo at last seasons trade deadline but the knee injury killed that idea. I just don't think you will get enough return to justify a Rondo trade right now. Perhaps it is better to hold him out a year and get a better draft position in the lottery. I say let him work with a new coach and with Jeff Green to see if the Celtics can stay relevent. If his attitude is not where it needs to be, than we are screwed no matter what we try.

If Ainge can trade Rondo for Josh Smith or anyone of that caliber, then I'll support the trade
