well that would be a full-on tank mode.  if that's true and Rondo is traded, I'd have to expect Jeff Green is next on the block.  makes just as little sense to keep him on a rebuilding team

Nah Jeff will stay. His deal is too good.
He's not good enough to single hand-idly get us out of the bottom 3 teams in the league.

Lamont
Bradley
Green
Sully
Olnyk

wow we'd be horrendous.
That's just what we want I guess if we want Wiggins/Parker.

So you show Lamont Jones an undrafted FA that most people don't even thinkg will make our team as our starting PG?

Come on now...

Orien Greene and Allan Ray started some games for us.  Why not Jones, right?

Can't say I'm too surprised but this whole strip down is making me sick to my stomach and Rondo is a guy that I want to keep around,
This is the part I just don't get about the NBA.  What do you tell the people who buy the tickets?  3 years of crappy non-entertaining basketball lie ahead but give us your money anyway and be patient?

While I (shockingly) don't want to trade Rondo this isn't the way to do it. If that's the plan they should hold him out until Jan, have him play well for 3-4 weeks and trade him at the deadline. That would increase his value and preserve the tank job (which I'm still not convinced is happening).

You don't say.

Obviously not surprised but this is getting sickening. Never seen a team I love stripped down so quickly.

Better to do it like a bandaide!

But seriously im not sure why you would trade rondo now when his value is lowest

Ainge has tried to trade Rondo for years without success. Meaning, his value is low now, but it was never that high to begin with. Meanwhile, he's at a crucial point in his contract -- two years means he integrates with a team, one year makes him a rental.

Yes.

This is how it works.  Cleveland, Seattle, Orlando, etc etc.

I think things could start happening sooner than that too possibly.  Going to be interesting to see.

i would trade Rondo but only if we can get something really good in return. Trading Rondo just to gather assets wouldn't make much sense to me. Rondo is the caliber of player you'd spend these "assets" on.

It would make sense if you don't really love Rondo and want to go full in on tanking for next years draft.

Not saying that's how I feel.  I love Rondo.  I'm torn up right now about all this.

I REALLY like Rondo (my admiration for him increased 10000000000000% after the dislocated elbow game), but, if we want to tank right, we'd be smart to let him prove he can still play, and trade him at the deadline for a high 2014 pick and other assets. If we draft right these next few years, we could be the Thunder...or better.

But, more than likely, what will happen to us is what happens to every other team that tanks ... we get nothing good and suck for years and years until someone is able to put together a trade like Danny did in 2007.

I HATE HATE HATE that everyone is so excited about tanking. It MIGHT work out, but the odds are EXTREMELY AGAINST IT. I am hoping it will work out, obviously, because I am a Celtics fan, but I wish people would get a reality check and realize that tanking is not some sure-fire plan back to contention. It is an extremely risky and dangerous route that could derail us for years and years.

We know his value is lower than Eric Gordon's, since Gordon landed CP while Rondo could not.

Dear god, no idea what this means.

Just heard Marc on espn radio and he touched on Rondo. Said he heard Celtics likely looking to act quickly on Rondo and would likely be "best for everyone" if Rondo is not on a young rebuilding team.

whatever it takes to guarantee a top 5 pick. This should come as no surprise.

Rondo's supposedly been quietly but rabidly working to come back from his injury in record time.  I wonder if there's a way to prove his health other than waiting for the regular season.

Not sure how you can bring up our past rebuilding success and then decry tanking, if that's the goal here.

Tanking doesn't require getting the first pick if you have enough assets.  We have a lot of picks and assets to flip, like we did for KG and Ray again.  Even if we don't get the first or second pick, we have options.

Dollars to donuts that this is a non-Celtics source feeding Stein based on conjecture.

Danny just called Rondo untouchable and said he wanted to rebuild around him a la Pierce in 2007.

We can all laugh and remember trader Danny, but I'm more inclined to esteem his recent quotes than Stein at this point.

Yeah - hopefully Danny is just looking for a Godfather offer right now.  If you're going to move Rondo you wait til he reminds people what he can do.

But I think part of the concern is that Rondo will be very, very disgruntled with the Nets trade and either delay coming back or not play hard/well when he does.
