My crazy dream scenario:

Celtics get Tyreke Evans, kings 2014 1st round pick

Kings get Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Fab Melo, Clippers 1st round pick 2015

And

Celtics get Gordon Hayward

Jazz get Jeff Green and a 2nd round pick

Then we find away to get rid of Lee, Bass, and Wallace for picks and cap space

We get the worst record in the nba and the kings get the 2nd worst

In the 2014 draft/offseason we get the 1st 2 pick and draft Wiggins and Jabari Parker. We will have cap space to sign Demarcus Cousins. With the nets pick, we draft Aaron Harrison.

2014-2015 starters:
Pg Tyreke Evans 18 ppg 7 apg
Sg Gordon Hayward 12 ppg
Sf Andrew Wiggins 20 ppg
Pf Jabari Parker 15 ppg 8 rpg
C Demarcus Cousins 23 ppg 11 rpg

Bench:
A point guard
Aaron Harrison
A small foward
Jared Sullinger
Kelly Olynk

Rondo, Humphries

for

Gordon, Thomas, Portland 1st (top 12 prot. next year), Detroit 1st (top 8 protected next year)

Boston may need to toss in a little more value (i.e. future 1st, Bradley, sullinger, or etc.), but I think that is a reasonable trade at this point for both teams.

It would have to become a part of the Brooklyn trade so Humphries could be traded with someone else.

This is the Cats? Not sure about these exact terms, but I'll continue to state as I have that they make a ton of sense as a Rondo trade partner.

Ainge just fleeced one awful GM / organization. Finish the job with another.

I wonder whether Danny's thinking is affected by seeing that Holiday just fetched someone who was slated to go #1 (albeit in a bad draft) and a top-5 protected pick next year.

Rondo is worth at least as much, even considering his injury IMO.

For the record I still prefer holding on to him, with a cautious approach to bringing him back next year.

Better player? Probably Rondo. More rounded player? Holliday?

Holliday's a better scorer than Rondo but he's significantly worse at every other point guard skill. It's like saying Lopez is more well-rounded than KG because he scores more points.

lol... this shouldn't be surprising for anyone.  Right around the time we heard our first "doc might coach the clippers" rumor, it was clear Boston was in full-blown tank mode (the right move)...  Rondo isn't conducive to a tank job.  He's good enough to play us out of the lotto but not good enough to lead a champion.

I really can't imagine anyone would be interested in trading for a busted PG with a torn ACL, though.   That's interesting.  Not sure what we could get for him... but it's possible he has more trade value now while people still think he's a "playoff superstar" than next season when he comes back hobbling with a torn ACL on a dreadful Celtic team.  So Maybe you pull the trigger on whatever you can get... It would be nice to have another 2014 lotto pick, but I can't see it happening.

Nobody still thinks he's a "playoff superstar". You killed that myth when you accurately predicted that the Celts wouldn't miss a beat on offense without him in the playoffs.

...at least that's your story, and you're *clearly* sticking with it.

Holiday is no slouch though.  His shooting is huge for opening up the floor (which Rondo can't do) and he has great size.

Big fan of him.

I bet danny will wait to see happens with smith. Now with all the picks and rebuild mode no way he will bring smith in. So wAit what happens to him. If atl is desperate to keep him, trade him there for a package. Maybe get schroeder after all. If another team wants him but need to provide an incentive, they can also bring in rondo. No other team in the league will have big interest or key chips to give us for rondo

I disagree that Rondo can play us out of the lottery.  We're a bottom five team next year even with a fully healthy Rondo and Sully.  I think the motivation for moving Rondo now is that his value will decline next year.  With a bad supporting cast, Rondo's assist numbers will decline.  And he will be the focal point of defenses, which will negatively impact his scoring.

I agree however that the market for Rondo probably won't be great right now.

I didn't mean a question mark after Holliday there. And I don't agree with that assessment or analogy, Tim. But this is old news for us.

More importantly, I think it would be hard to argue that Rondo can fetch more on the market than Holliday when all factors are considered.

Dollars to donuts that this is a non-Celtics source feeding Stein based on conjecture.

Danny just called Rondo untouchable and said he wanted to rebuild around him a la Pierce in 2007.

We can all laugh and remember trader Danny, but I'm more inclined to esteem his recent quotes than Stein at this point.

Don't forget that 48 hours ago Danny said that there were no big deals imminent and he couldn't really see that changing. Lol.

From dollars to donuts to apples to oranges - Danny has always pleaded ignorance about imminent deals.  He's usually a lot more forthcoming about a player's trade status.

I mean, we've been through Rondo rumors plenty of times before and Danny's never been shy about acknowledging his potential availability.

He was asked point blank if he wanted to rebuild around Rondo a la Pierce in 2007 and he said yes.

That's a lot different than the typical "we love Rondo and we want to keep him but we're always looking for ways to make the team better" speech.

Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sully:  I'm rooting for those guys, and against everybody who wants to see the Celtics tank for the 2014 draft, including Danny Ainge, if that is indeed his plan.

I don't really care if I'm the only one.  If that team makes the playoffs, for me, it will be almost as special as winning a title in 2008.

Basketball is still a competitive sport, and I'm rooting for my team to be competitive.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Id do that in a heart beat if I was the Utah GM
PG-RR
SG-Haywood
SF-?? Trade a PF or C for one
PF-Millsap
C-Jefferson

Bench:
Foye, Kanter,Favor, combined with a few other trades/deals

Unfortunately, I dont see the GM doing it as he can keep two guards for the price of one and picks.

Actually, we were better in the playoffs without Rondo.

In my first experiment, I used a time machine to prevent Rondo's ACL injury... We stayed at below .500 and missed the playoffs entirely.

Then in a second test, I used a dimension rift to put healthy Rondo on our 2013 playoff team... Jeff Green just stood around waiting for the ball and the Knicks swept us.

Oh Tim.  Oh glorious, glorious Tim.  My nemesis.  I'll miss our bickering when Rondo is missing the all-star team while leading a terrible Charlotte Hornets team.
