Here is the problem with making the trade just to make sure you "get something"
You can't just let what you get go later. You have to "get something" for that as well.
And in the NBA, that leads to a downward spiral of actual talent with out a corresponding downward spiral of actual money being spent.
This is very true... where does it end? Sometimes you have to walk away.

Exactly. I think too many people are treating this like MLB or the NFL. In baseball, teams always trade aging stars for prospects--which works out not only for acquiring young talent, but also for dumping salary since minor league deals don't usually effect payrolls very much. In the NFL, you always have the option of cutting a player.
The issue with any trade the Celtics make is that Danny needs to weigh the prospect of Jordan (and other players' salaries) and the talent they bring vs. how that money could be spent otherwise.
So as wdleehi says, something is not always better than nothing in the NBA.
