Rockets fan here, so basically the deal is essentially Deandre Jordan for Kevin Garnett?

Wouldn't a trade of Omer Asik and Thomas Robinson for KG be a better trade? Would KG waive his no trade clause to play for Kevin McHale?

I would definitely do that deal over and over again.

CT32, I wanna give you some food for thought:

Chris Paul has already left one NBA franchise because he felt they weren't willing to make the moves to give him a chance to win. Let's say the Clippers pull out of this deal. They not only pass on Doc, but also a serious roster upgrade in KG.

What happens when CP3 starts his free agency tour, and meets with Daryl "Wonderkid" Morey & Coach McHale in Houston or Coach Carlisle & Mark "Deep Pockets" Cuban in Dallas and they pitch him on being willing to make those big moves. Do you really think he doesn't at least consider it?

I think that this is the first time in his career that he's paired with a young superstar in blake, in a large market. He left that franchise cause they were more focused on rebuilding and saving money. That's not the case with the clippers. If this deal doesn't go through, the clippers still get a new coach that cp3 likes, along with better developed dj, bg, and bledsoe. Completely different situation than in new orleans.

But not a completely different situation than last year in which you did worse in the playoffs than the year before...CP wants to be on a contender and that team you have now is not a contender.

so Doc and a 37 year old KG (who we don't even know will survive next season) are gonna make the clipps a contender? getting hollins and improving DJ won't do that?

Um, yeah. That's why CP wants the deal to happen. You can't even keep Jordan on the floor. He got benched. Just look at their stats, man. KG makes players around him better.

where did cp3 himself say that he wants the deal to happen

again, if cp3 said that he wants doc and kg, management would take both terry and lee, and probably give bledsoe to you guys. the clippers not being desperate tells me that cp3 said no such thing, and that the earlier rumors that he likes hollins is again shown

http://tracking.si.com/2013/06/17/chris-paul-resign-clippers-trade/

gotto love the cp3 quotes in that article....

So sources are only real when they support what you think? I mean, what about all the inside sources you were referring to?

Plus, Adrain Wojnarowski is about as solid as you can get on this stuff...

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--celtics--clippers-resume-push-to-get-kevin-garnett-doc-rivers-deal-done-160920220.html

I told you i wasn't about to look through a bunch of tweets and articles just to prove a point. at least the article i posted had a quote from him lol

This. Screw the Clips if they want to be cheap. DJ and 2 late draft picks isn't worth it.

For the guys here who are wondering who and where are the "sources" come from, here is an example (fictional one made from me)

@DilusionalGuyButImTryingHardToMakeaLiving
"Rockets and Celtics are discussing a possible trade for KG. Sources said it might include Asik and Robinson"

Here you are...

I don't think Houston would want to make that deal.  They seem bent on pursuing Dwight and a key part of that is  unloading Robinson with no money coming back.  If KG agreed to go to Houston, they would be hard pressed to field a competitive offer for Howard.  It wouldn't be worth it for them.

I think Rockets would actually open up more capspace by doing Asik/Robinson for KG and nothing else.

  • It's all about the TEAM!

I wouldn't even worry about KG... Doc is what the Clippers really want. It's just Doc wants KG.

Let KG retire. No more salary. Not his or Jordan's salary.

At some point Doc is going to want to coach again in the next three years and there will be suitors for him. As time goes it is only natural he will be more open to more teams. Then hopefully a little bidding war ensues and we get something worth having for him.

Yeah, I love KG and was admittedly fond of Doc. I find this whole situation very upsetting to say the least on both accounts. We appear to be getting low value for both and it would be a bit different if the Clippers were making us an offer we couldn't refuse, but it seems they want to punk us at this point and we are supposed to be happy about getting "anything we can" for the both of them. I tend to disagree.

At some point it comes down to principals. Not only are the Clippers punking us but it almost feels like Doc/KG have us in a situation where we are chasing after anything we can get knowing we are in a BAD situation. Being the offers are less than stellar, I agree with your sentiment.

Let KG retire. I like Doc, but it's NOT the Boston Doc's KG is playing for. It's the Celtics. His bleeding Green is turning into bleeding Doc. I respect the pact they have but go ride off into the sunset without damaging your team you both had so much success with.

Let Doc either come back and coach us (reluctantly and awkwardly) OR let him go back to the broadcast booth and dictate to him that we won't let him out of his contract unless we get JUST compensation for it. Not a "Anything we can get" situation. I'm SURE we can hire another coach with a fresh take on things if necessary. The Celtics will live to fight another day no matter how this turns out.

If they both want to come back to us. Fine. I'm willing to have a lame duck season to pay thanks for the memories and wave them both goodbye.

If they DON'T want to come back and this is ALL we are going to get out of this and NOT an offer we CANNOT refuse, I'm all for just letting Doc play his bluff cards and KG saying he's out.

One said "I bleed Green" and the other said "I'm a Celtic".

I never expected either one of them to play hard ball with OUR loyalty to them like this. It's time to care more about the Celtics than the individual pieces. At least for me.

As someone put it earlier, it's been a very tough day. The fact we can claim both at the end of the day still gives a tiny ray of hope that this can work out better than it is looking at this present moment. But, it doesn't look good and I don't expect us to be employers of either figure in another 2 days or so. Rather than the continued fatigue this brings, I'm becoming ready to accept this or accept them both just being retired if need be. I think I prefer we let them walk rather than we deal them away. I don't think we're getting enough in return and it's all about the Celtics in my point of view anyway. If we don't have leverage with the Clippers, just make leverage with Doc and KG. You both don't want to be here while under contract???

I'm holding out hope DA doesn't fold.

You could easily recast that with as much accuracy to be favorable to the Celtics:

Clips: Chris wants KG. Can we get KG?

Celts: KG only wants to play for Doc.

Clips: We'll take Doc, too.

Celts: Fine, but we want DeAndre, Bledsoe, and a pair of first rounders.

Clips: Uh, what about DeAndre and one first rounder.

Celts: No.

Clips: We heard Doc say he wants to coach Bledsoe.

Celts: If you don't want to trade Bledsoe, you gotta take Courtney Lee or Jason Terry. And two first round picks.

Clips: Ew.

Celts: Hey I hear Chris Paul is gonna play for Atlanta.

Clips: OK, we'll give you DeAndre and a first rounder for KG, buy out Doc from you guys, and take one of the Lee/Terry duo.

Celts: Eh, why don't we just take two first rounders. Someone else might want Jason or Courtney. Like Atlanta. When Chris Paul goes there.

Clips: Dude! Don't say that! We can't do two first rounders! You've got me by the balls here.

Celts: *shrug*

And so on, and so forth.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

He got into Ainge's head by basically repeating the same thing over and over. Hm, not a bad tactic.

No way.  KG makes 12.4 million next season. Asik and Robinson combine for 11.9.

Found this comment from a clips fan on that article. So cocky. I really hope this deal doesn't go through and they lose cp3. They act like without the deal cp3 is staying for sure  ::)

"The members over at celticsblog are hilarious. Somehow, in their minds, this is going to blow up in our faces and CP3 is three steps out the door already."

Out of fairness, I'd push for two 1st round picks.  If the Clips want KG and Rivers that badly and don't want to part with Bledsoe, they're going to have to give something more than Jordan and the 25th pick.

As for KG and Doc going to the Clippers, and possibly Pierce too, I wouldn't be upset about it.  Besides Doc perpetuating his stupid 4.5/10/4.5/10 rule (who subs one of their best players out before the first TV timeout??) with the Clippers, it'd be nice to see KG and Pierce not ride out their careers in futility here while at the same time pushing the Celtics out of a really good draft pick.  In other words, I'd rather see KG and Pierce be very important, semi-role players together with another team with a shot at a championship than grind out another bone weary season here.

The Celtics are going to have to start a rebuild.  No better time than right now.
