CT32, I wanna give you some food for thought:

Chris Paul has already left one NBA franchise because he felt they weren't willing to make the moves to give him a chance to win. Let's say the Clippers pull out of this deal. They not only pass on Doc, but also a serious roster upgrade in KG.

What happens when CP3 starts his free agency tour, and meets with Daryl "Wonderkid" Morey & Coach McHale in Houston or Coach Carlisle & Mark "Deep Pockets" Cuban in Dallas and they pitch him on being willing to make those big moves. Do you really think he doesn't at least consider it?

I think that this is the first time in his career that he's paired with a young superstar in blake, in a large market. He left that franchise cause they were more focused on rebuilding and saving money. That's not the case with the clippers. If this deal doesn't go through, the clippers still get a new coach that cp3 likes, along with better developed dj, bg, and bledsoe. Completely different situation than in new orleans.

But not a completely different situation than last year in which you did worse in the playoffs than the year before...CP wants to be on a contender and that team you have now is not a contender.

so Doc and a 37 year old KG (who we don't even know will survive next season) are gonna make the clipps a contender? getting hollins and improving DJ won't do that?

Um, yeah. That's why CP wants the deal to happen. You can't even keep Jordan on the floor. He got benched. Just look at their stats, man. KG makes players around him better.

where did cp3 himself say that he wants the deal to happen

again, if cp3 said that he wants doc and kg, management would take both terry and lee, and probably give bledsoe to you guys. the clippers not being desperate tells me that cp3 said no such thing, and that the earlier rumors that he likes hollins is again shown

http://tracking.si.com/2013/06/17/chris-paul-resign-clippers-trade/

gotto love the cp3 quotes in that article....

So sources are only real when they support what you think? I mean, what about all the inside sources you were referring to?

Plus, Adrain Wojnarowski is about as solid as you can get on this stuff...

Boston has dropped its pursuit of guard Eric Bledsoe, but wants two draft picks as compensation for Rivers, sources said. Rivers has decided that he doesn't want to be a part of the Celtics' rebuilding process, and has requested that Boston work out a compensation package to allow him to go the Clippers.

^From the Woj article

It's going to get done. Doc can in no way come back now

better be picks in 2014 and 2016 (unprotected)

2014 = deep draft
2016= Clippers could suck again by then

Definitely wouldn't complain with a pick in next year's draft. In fact I hope Danny is insisting that it better be

It's a sad day when KG is only worth DJ and that a championship pedigree coach is worth a late first rounder. Smh. I hope woj is wrong

That's how it works when KG is 37 and the championship pedigree coach is forcing our hand...

It will definitely be a let down if, after all this, we end up with just Deandre Jordan and a couple of (late) first round picks in exchange for KG and Doc.

I can live with not getting Bledsoe -- guess it was always a long shot -- but we ought to be able to unload at least one of our mid-level role player contracts.

But I guess unloading at least a couple of those guys will be priority #1 for the rest of the summer.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

How does Wyc feel about Ainge? Any one have knowledge and/or sources of that? Would be interested to know.

I guess the end is always sad.  Agree.  But I'm genuinely happy that KG and hopefully Pierce will be able to chase a ring in Paul's hometown and KG's current town.  They weren't going to get that ring here....

EDIT:  as an add-on.  I wonder how many posters (not you) who are bashing this deal to pieces and savaging Doc and AInge, are the very same who were ready to ride KG out of town a full two years ago, calling him toast when he was struggling with injury.  Would be interesting to see if those now freaking out about loyalty (despite that Ainge is the one who wants to reubuild) were not loyal to KG during a rough patch in his play.....

The point is to move KG, Pierce, and Doc for assets who will help us in the future, since we're not winning a championship with this team.

Would you rather they simply retired?

(for the record, I'm still undecided about this. My brain says "no way, get something for them, let them play for a contender," but my emotions say "yes, retire them in green."

The real issue here is that DA has waited too long to move both KG and PP. At this point and with a NTC the Celtics hands are basically tied when it comes to trading KG and Doc.

It comes down to does DA want DeAndre Jordon and 2 1st of would he rather have KG come back(hopefully retire), try to move Pierce and just force Doc to go back to broadcasting.

I also think it could get to the point where Doc just tells LAC to make this thing happen and get it over with. I've had enough of Doc attached at the umbilical cord to KG.

Rockets fan here, so basically the deal is essentially Deandre Jordan for Kevin Garnett?

Wouldn't a trade of Omer Asik and Thomas Robinson for KG be a better trade? Would KG waive his no trade clause to play for Kevin McHale?

Honestly how much would you give up for a guy who is only going to play 2 more years tops?

And how much would you give up for a coach that doesn't want to be on the team he is on and his only other option is to come to you because that is the only place he wants to be?

I mean why would the Clippers bid against themselves in regards to Doc?

Yes there's some benefit to them just retiring.  Theoretically you'd eventually have cap space... and at that point if you want to waste 10 million dollars a year on a player like DeAndre Jordan, I'm sure you'll have that opportunity.  Them retiring actually makes tanking easier... thus it's potentially a better solution.

#1. YES.  I think everyone here would take that in a heartbeat over the Clipper package.

#2. Maybe.  But the Rockets seem to have their sights set higher.  KG has probably 2 years at the most left and that's a pretty narrow window for such a young team to put it all together.
