Jordan and one or two 1sts? Might as well keep KG and Doc.

Details emerge on trade talks for KG (and whether he's in it or just cut loose, Doc): #Clippers offer DeAndre + No. 1. #Celtics want 2 1s.

Not happy with this, we either need to get Bledsoe or unload some long term contracts for Butler. If we get neither this will be a loss.

Since they apparently have all the leverage, I doubt we get either now.

would rather go another year with everyone or let them all go and be super bad....this trade has zero appeal...the picks are too low and jordan is average at best

If we trade KG and Pierce for DeAndre JOrdan, we should immediately flip Jordan to a team with cap space for a draft pick... then package Rondo and some of our bad contracts for a high pick and expirings.  Probably find a taker for Jeff Green as well.  Then hire Del Negro so we can win 15 games and lock up a top 5 pick in a loaded draft.  Good foundation for a rebuild. Tons of cap space and tons of young players... if we play our cards right, in 2020 we'll be a contender again.  Towards the tail end of LeBron's reign of terror on the league, but Durant will still be in his prime.

By leaking this so publically the well might be too poisoned for that already.

Not that it really matters but I'd love to see the overlap between the people bemoaning this deal now and the people making "blow it up" threads for the last 4 years.  Be careful what you wish for.

I just wanted to chime in here -- I'm one of the people who have advocated blowing it up, and I think this potential deal is both ugly and necessary.

This process isn't pretty, or enjoyable.  And this upcoming season is probably going to be tough to watch at times.

But this is what has to happen.  Just the way of things in the NBA, unfortunately.

See I can respect that.  I've never been a "blow it up" guy and it'll be sad to see KG and Pierce go if it does go down that way.  But if we're going to rebuild, this is probably the best route available at this point.
How so though isnt DJ's value really low around the league and teams want to stay away from him and his contract?

I am not happy with this either.  But I disagree in that they have all the leverage.  DA can just decline to let Doc out of his contract.  Let KG retire if he wants.  DA doesn't have to trade KG.  Then we figure out a way to get something decent back for PP.  If KG retires, what does that do to our salary cap?

I like Doc a lot, but if DA isn't getting what he considers fair value for letting Doc coach next year, then don't let him out of his contract make him wait 3 years.

This is the problem when the initial trade demand gets leaked - everybody gets their hopes up and then feels ripped off when compromises are made.

Jordan and 2 picks is more than I would have expected for KG before the rumors started up.  I'd happily make that trade.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

so the clippers would get doc, KG and PP after he is bought out to go with butler, crawford, bledsoe, griffin and chris paul

while boston gets jordan and 1 pick (maybe 2)...with those picks being low in the draft to go with a gimpy rondo, bradley, green, lee, terry, bass and sully

Even if you think this deal is crap, you have to agree -- the biggest disaster at this point would be if the two sides walk away permanently.

Then the Celtics are basically left fumbling for some other option.

No way Doc Rivers comes back to coach this team, or that KG and Pierce are back next season.

This deal is now the best chance the Celtics have of getting anything in return for these guys.  If it falls apart, we could see everybody go their separate ways, leaving the Celtics holding nothing but what they have right now (which is to say, a lot of junk).

i don't see it that way at all.  rivers will decide to not coach.  kg and pierce will probably play.   it will be a team that won't do much,  but it will still sell tickets and give kg and pierce a retirement season where they play themselves into the sunset and/or maybe get a deal you like more during the season.   this thing centered only around jordan is absurd.

I can't believe the holdup is a low first rounder. There must be more.

honestly..i prefer that...at least they would have a chance to get a dynamic young player in the lottery.

I don't want to watch a team struggle to be the 8 seed and get swept by miami over and over again.

Fair, but I don't think that's likely.

If you take away KG and Pierce and add Deandre Jordan to this team, you're talking about 15-20 fewer wins than last season.

Agreed.  If the difference is just a late first round pick, the deal will get done.  No way the Clips walk away because they value the #25 pick in 2015 that highly.

So instead of having Rondo sit out you trade him for a draft pick that you hope is as good as Rondo? Sounds awesome! SMH
