Even if you think this deal is crap, you have to agree -- the biggest disaster at this point would be if the two sides walk away permanently.

Then the Celtics are basically left fumbling for some other option.

No way Doc Rivers comes back to coach this team, or that KG and Pierce are back next season.

This deal is now the best chance the Celtics have of getting anything in return for these guys.  If it falls apart, we could see everybody go their separate ways, leaving the Celtics holding nothing but what they have right now (which is to say, a lot of junk).

i don't see it that way at all.  rivers will decide to not coach.  kg and pierce will probably play.   it will be a team that won't do much,  but it will still sell tickets and give kg and pierce a retirement season where they play themselves into the sunset and/or maybe get a deal you like more during the season.   this thing centered only around jordan is absurd.

Just running it back with Doc leaving to another team (or the broadcasting booth) would be a total fiasco for this team.

Might as well hang a sign over the entire season that says "This is not what we wanted to do."

Basically you just get a repeat of this last season, only with a sour taste in everybody's mouth and a cloud hanging over the entire business.

And cap space when KG's contract comes off the books, post-retirement.

Sure, but we can get that by having KG retire / leave this summer, rather than next summer.

The draft to tank for is 2014, not 2015 or 2016.

I think there's at least a half-dozen teams who have a leg up on Boston in terms of tanking for 2014.

Too much talent on the Boston roster to finish in the bottom 5.

One proposed solution in Celtics-Clippers talks, sources say: If Clips take back Courtney Lee or Jason Terry, Boston would relent on Bledsoe
Please don't give up Courtney Lee. Happily get rid of Terry though.

I still dont get why we if we dont get Bledsoe we arent trying to get more from them?? It helps us a bit getting rid of Terry or Lee since were rebuilding but doesnt that help LA even MORESO? Getting back Doc/KG/a shooter in the Jet to pair with CP3 seems like they are getting the better end of it all?

It's not making sense to me at all

my guess...jordan, butler and a 1st round pick for KG, Doc, Terry

boston buys out PP june 30th and the clippers sign him

Tweeted this yesterday, but Doc/KG/Terry/Lee for DJ/Butler/Green/pix is the non-Bledsoe outcome. DJ's 15% trade kicker hurts LAC's leverage.

Agreed, though if it comes to it moving either is fine. Definitely prefer to move Terry.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
just a tough day

I agree with this. I feel like I'm watching the death of a loved one. I don't know how we are expecting to come out of this happy.

I could be happy having a mediocre year of running it back one more time and getting sent packing early in the playoffs again.

I can't get my head around watching basically the core of the Celtics go to a team in L.A. and all of a sudden, they become instant contenders (with their other assets in tow) while the Celtics basically get raped in a deal where one team clearly got the better of the other. One goes on to greatness while the other flounders in the land of sucks without anything that resembles the old team.

I don't want to hate the Clippers.

I don't want to mourn the Celtics either.  :'(

How about both? I'm sure we can patch up the backup G situation with Crawford, Bradley, and other spare parts on better contracts.

What's a worse contract?  Terry 5 mil x 2?  Lee 5 mil x 2?  Or Bass 7 mil x 2?

Are they all "bad" contracts?  SOme people seem to think you can actually get value for Bass.  You think?

Without Bledsoe, source tells Y! that Celtics are "pushing for increased financial flexibility," instead of more draft considerations.

Boston wants to unload at least one multi-year contract onto the Clippers to get this deal done, source says.

If we can't get Bledsoe that's a joke, Terry and Lee better both be out of Boston or Ainge really messed this up bad.

Please don't give up Courtney Lee. Happily get rid of Terry though.

Why?

He is the definition of a complimentary player (and didn't even play very well last year).

We need to free up space and money and tradable assets need to be gathered.  He is not a help.
