Jeff Green signed 1-year deal worth $9 million with Celtics, source said. He did not sign the mere qualifying offer.

i don't think he's going to be traded now

It's Wyc's money, I guess.  So long as it's a one year deal, I'm fine with it.

Worst case scenario? A 9 million dollar expiring deal becomes a nice chip.

It's my understanding that we can't trade him without his consent, because he'd lose Bird rights by being dealt.

he can join the list of the great "expiring deals of celtics past" list- Toine', Theo Ratliff, Raef Lafrentz, you know the list

I thought that was just the QO... Is it still the case?

Not sure why Houston are so eager to join in this trade.

They can clear enough cap space that they could theoretically sign Nene and pair him with Pau Gasol in their frontcourt.  They also get clear of some players who are good enough to get them to the playoffs but not good enough to make them championship contenders, so they can retool into a better foundation for a contender without having to blow up the team and rebuild.

... because building around two 30-somethings making 60% of the cap and signed to long-term contracts is always a recipe for success.  Especially when one of those players fits into the good-but-not-elite category, and the second is probably still elite, but is starting to show signs of decline.

Pau Gasol is 67 days younger than Luis Scola.  Nene is 141 days older than Kevin Martin.  It's not as if they are massively aging their core.

I think the Celtics showed that having an over-30 core isn't a recipe for disaster.

This is not Houston facilitating a Lakers juggernaut for not good reason.  This is Houston making a reasonable attempt to improve itself and not caring if the Lakers also get better.  It still depends on what moves come next, but this is clearly a first step down a path that could be beneficial for the Rockets.

I don't think Nene is anywhere near as good as Ray or Pierce when they were traded, and certainly not in KG's category.  Pau isn't in 2008 KG's category, either.

So the Lakers team would be:

PG - C.Paul, D.Fisher, S.Blake
SG - K.Bryant, (empty spot) G.Green
SF - R.Artest, M.Barnes, J.Kapono
PF - L.Scola, (empty spot)
C  - E.Okafor, (empty spot)

I don't understand that trade for the LA. It takes them out of the running for Dwight Howard and creates a worse team than their current group of guys.

Not sure this is worse than current.  I don't see Odom in the trade, so he's still there.  This CB proposed trade is essentially Pao and Andrew for Scola, EO and CP3.  That sounds like much better value for LA than the original deal which was Pau and Odom for CP3. Just lessens LAs chances for DH.

I know I'm a bit off from the recent discussion, but I just wanted to say that I'm a bit sad to see JO gone with this trade. I know he's injury prone, but I really liked his attitude from the recent interviews he gave.
I wish we could keep him and find a way to sign West without losing anyone. JO should win a championship with the Celtics.
I think he could have a good season with us.
Call me optimistic (or stupid).

Oh, Lamar is still there. My mistake. There we go. That makes things a lot better.

At least under the old CBA, it was for any player one a one year deal who would have Bird Rights at the end of the season.

The $9 M seems like the similar $ for David West. Could Green be going to NO instead of Jermaine? Forgive me in advance in case I'm missed some of the new CBA rules.
