Not sure I but the argument that the Hornets would be awful if these trades go through. They will likely have starting line up of

C-Okafor
PF-Scola
SF-Odom
SG-Martin
PG-Dragic

Bench: Ariza, Jack, Belinelli, Quincey Poindexter

and whatever they get from the celtics..that is a pretty good top 7..this these trades make the hornets a better team

Odom can't play the 3 any more. They'll start Ariza and bring Odom off the bench.

Mavs
OKC
Lakers
Houston
Memphis
San Antonio

At best, that team is top-7. They were the #7 seed last season. I can see the Blazers or even Phoenix being better than them. It's a new roster, with no training camp, a compressed season for a team with no depth at all - I'm not even sure they can keep Belli.

But the deal is horrible because they're basically trading Chris Paul for the right to be mediocre for 2 seasons. That's it, nothing else. They'd be better off by just dumping Paul for cap room and a couple of picks.

  Houston?

i think the idea is that's where houston would rank if they get gasol and sign nene.  im not sure id have them above the grizz or spurs even then.

Sure. Do you think they're better than Houston?

Is Odom included in this trade? It doesn't seem like it haven't seen him mentioned

I wasn't ranking those 6 teams by order, just ranking them above the Hornets post-trade.

fair enough.  i think the hornets would be a borderline playoff team after the trade.  so essentially they trade paul without getting any worse.

that's fine . . . but in a few years they'll be a lot worse, and they won't have any top draft picks from the next couple of years to show for it.

Exactly.

And this has always happened.  As I've brought up before, we closed out games in '08 with KG at the 5 and Posey at the 4.

If we can win a title like that, we can win another with KG at the 5 and legit 4s like West and Bass at the 4.

So it took half an hour for Stern to shoot the previous deal, why is it taking so long with this one? I crave (good) news ;)

He has to soothe the feelings of Dan Gilbert and company first..

Any chance Jermaine could be bought out by the Hornets and wind up back in Boston? That would seem to be a good situation for him, and the Celtics could likely use him off the bench...

They closed that loophole that permitted teams to make the BS move of trading a player to match salaries in a trade then resigning him after he was bought out by his new team.  If Jermaine O'Neal were traded by the Celtics and waived by his new team, then Boston can't sign him until July 1.

Please educate any idiot who suggests trading KG or Ray Allen and then resigning them after they are bought out and waived about this rule.

Rockets will have changes to their part of proposed 3-way deal, league sources tell Y! Sports. They'd be sending more players to Hornets.

Below is a deal I just created in the trade machine on ESPN.

Scola, okafor, and Paul to lakers

Gasol to rockets

Bynum, Martin, and dragic to hornets.

It might take something like this for the deal to go through.

I was actually thinking of something along these lines in my car today.  I think this is the kind of deal that makes sense to the Hornets, whereas the previous one did not. I think it makes sense for LAL more too in getting a PF.
2020 CelticsStrong All-2000s Draft -- Utah Jazz

Finals Starters:  Jason Kidd - Reggie Miller - PJ Tucker - Al Horford - Shaq
Bench:  Rajon Rondo - Trae Young - Marcus Smart - Jaylen Brown -  Peja Stojakovic - Jamal Mashburn - Carlos Boozer - Tristan Thompson - Mehmet Okur

the lakers would be so much smaller up front id totally be okay with that deal.

Excellent trade, I just hope it really happens and Stern doesn't veto it. Danny pulled this one out of nowhere, kudos! And West's contract is a real bargain, wow.

I must say I'm a little uneased by the fact that we don't have a true starting center but West really brings another dimension to this team and allows so many more possiblities (along with Green stuck at the 3).
