JO has a trade kicker which is 7.5% so when he is traded his contract will be 6.9 million on the hornets. But if they send him to LA would they still add an additional 7.5% on his new salary which will become 7.2 million ?

I wonder if this is being delayed in order to include JO going to LA as part of all that, or else staying in NO to play C with Okafor going to LA, to satisfy owners that NO isn't taking on tons of salary and thus giving LA monetary relief/trade exception AND chris paul (which is what they were getting in the vetoed deal). This may go with that deal to make sure LA takes back actual contracts.

Thoughts? That could explain the delay...

How do people feel if the Celtics acquiring David West is necessary to facilitate Chris Paul going to the Lakers so that the LA-Houston-NO deal is dead if this deal for West falls through?

I don't care about other teams. Can't say no to a trade that's going to bring major talent to your ball club.

If we get West I hope it's the lesser of 27-29 million and if possiible the first year could be 12 million or so is that allowed ? And of course if the owners want to pay more taxes, The first 2 years it's still dollar-for-dollar.

Plus if there's a player's option in year two and team option in the final year. Then West's contract will be tradable.

This article sounds like it was written early yesterday sometime, so I give it no credence regarding the West trade.

Note in the article it says that the Green signing isn't done yet.

Wasn't Green's signing yesterday??

West will be 31 for this entire season...so we would get him at 31, 32, and 33. I think that's pretty good, but I worry about him defensively since he was average before the ligament tear.

I disagree that West's defense was average.  If you look at advanced metrics (points allowed per possession, opponent's PER, etc.), his defense was very good last year.

The Lakers-Hornets just submitted a new CP3 trade to the league for approval, Im sure that trade is somewhat holding up things with the West sign and trade. I would expect to hear some news on this thing soon. Wojo, Spears, Aldrige havent tweeted anything today, so once they do we will know much more.

Screw the Lakers.

I'm not big on West as a defender, either.  Especially coming off a severe injury.

didnt we find out with shaq last year that it doesnt really hurt our defense if someone isnt necessarily elite? Ray Allen was never much of a defender until he came here.

danny knows if we want to get by Miami Heat/Bulls with this current roster we need offense and depth...David west provides both those.

we could really spread the floor allowing driving lanes for rondo(and a multitude of shooters)

fwiw, i saw a hornets blogger post on twitter last night (sorry, i can't go and find the thing, it's hours old) who said that west isn't the defender he once was and the celtics will have to hide him.

If only bloggers universally knew what they were talking about.  This guy rated out as a very good defender last year.

For whatever it's worth, here's a puff piece of West's defense last year:
