Can someone tell me why NO would prefer that deal over what the Celtics are offering? And also who's to say that the Lakers window for winning a championship is any wider than the Celtics'? Kobe is aging and has been playing with numerous injuries which he has foolishly ignored at times and they will come back to haunt him within the next few years.
If NO trades CP3 they should seek a point guard to replace him, Rondo is by far the best option out there for them right now.
If CP3 ends up with the Lakers I will be even more suspicious of the NBA and their efforts to collude and promote these Hollywood teams.

It isnt collusion from the league, it is collusion on the players part. Their window is bigger because the vast majority of big name free agents WANT to go from their team to LA. Not the case in Boston, unfortunately. It sucks, but it is the reality

Not crazy about the deal for my team. Gasol and Odom are both very skilled big men who hardly ever get injured, and I think Gasol, in particular, has been very underrated lately.

Traded two bigs for a small. Flashier games, but no championship unless we get Dwight Howard or another good big.

The NBA owns the Hornets. Can't the other owners block this trade? I can't imagine a single owner would go for this, not with the bad taste left from the last Laker Gasol trade.

See, this is people kidding themselves. that was a travesty This is nothing like the Gasol trade.

They literally gave up nothing in that trade.

Here they are giving up two great frontcourt players and picks to get a great PG with knee troubles.

They aren't the same thing. at all.

TP for being rational.

This trade really isn't the no risk slam dunk people are making it out to be.

What if bynum goes down with his knee again, like he seems to every other year? who's there back up impact big man now?

You're right. This one is even more of joke. Top 5 player in the league gained by giving up two aging, overpaid forwards.

What exactly is the trade?

Paul to LA
Gasol and Odom to NO
Gasol rerouted from NO to Houston for Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Goran Dragic

So NO trades Paul for Odom, Martin, Scola, and Dragic. But they would need to relinquish rights to David West to do it.

We don't, we just have to hope he goes into "everybody doubted me? I'm going to show you how great I can be" mode instead of the pouting/"bad" Rondo we saw after Perk's trade.

Wow - if this trade is true, then I am shocked.

LA basically ran their offense through Pau - he was in many respects LA's "KG", without the screaming of course.

I was sure that Kobe wasn't too keen on running their offense through Bynum, either...he basically stated one time that "I'm option 1, and Gasol is option 2...Bynum is after that" or something to that effect.

If someone else can find the exact quote pls post it.

I'm betting that if this is true Kobe didn't sign off on letting his number 2 go.

He may be getting CP3, but a backcourt of CP3 and Kobe and a frontcourt of Bynum is NOT getting through MEM, OKC or DAL.

And say goodbye to your 6th man. I say LA move Ron Ron to the bench and let him take that role ;D.

* what if getting chris paul rejuvenates kobe, allowing him to keep playing in the post and relieving him of the burden to create from the perimeter all the time?

*what if playing with a true playmaking point guard for the first time ever makes bynum look even better than he's ever been?

look, i can agree that this trade doesn't guarantee the lakers a championship this year.  mainly im frustrated and disappointed because i am convinced that trading for chris paul was the celtics' only shot at being relevant and competitive any time in the next few years.

Ok, it's not worth it to even try to discuss anything with you if your goign to try to tell me that pau Gasol and Odom aren't more valuable than marc gasol and trailer trash.

Pau Gasol is a franchise changing big man who yes, has lost a step, but is still one of the top 10 PF's in the league.

Lamar Odom is a great wing with a great skill set who is 6'10.

I understand that emotions are running high, but those two players are far more valuable than what they gave up to land gasol. Which i think is funny, since your saying the trade to get gasol was a travesty and they made out huge, but now that they are trading him he's apparently vin baker reborn.

Face it, that package is better than a defensive PG who can't shoot and some nobody named Jeff green. Fact, not opinion.

That said, i think it hurts the Lakers, so I'm all for it. They have no front court depth now, and they are one predictable bynum knee injury from the CP3 and Kobe three point shoot out show while they get murdered on the glass.

EDIT: also, since when is CP3 a top 5 player in the league?

He's a top 5 PG, thats not equivalent.

The top 5 goes something like:

1. Lebron
2. Kobe
3. Durant
4. wade
5. Dirk

with honorable mentions of:

Howard, melo, amare, possably even the bosthirch

And then we start talking PG's.

PG's not named isiah or magic are just not as valuable as big men and dominate wings.

How much can it really rejuvinate Kobe? He's in his mid thirties with a bad knee. Father time runs us all down eventually.

And he still had a really good year last year, it's not going to get better for him after a knee treatment, just worse.

And Bynum looks fine with fisher. bynum's a beast. he also has paper tissues for acl's.

Look, im not saying they won't be a good team. I'm just saying if i was a laker's fan I'd be going

"wait, so we are trading two of the better big men in the game for a PG with a bum knee? and our superstar is 34 and coming off knee surgery?"

" and the PG in question is a ball dominating Pick and roll PG? Boy, i'm sure Kobe will be fine with not handling the ball as much. he does so great at deferring to others."
