You don't overpay bench/role players.  You let them walk or you end up in NBA no man's land with bad contracts.

Danny knows this.  BBD is gone after this season.
You shouldn't 'overpay' anyone.

The important thing is to look for value, and that is found by avoiding what is being overvalued (typically scorers like Bed Gordon) and look for what is being undervalued.

Should I reword it as "pay above what you'd like to pay" then?

I disagree.

I have no issue overpaying for an important cog (though not a star) of a title team while the run is going.

For example, overpay Davis on a one year contract.

I am against overpaying going into a rebuilding or retooling phase.  (a likely outcome in 2012)

there was a stretch during the knicks game last night where melo was guarding BBD. thats unacceptable. he got away with it cause bbd was just sitting on the perimeter waiting to shoot a jumpshot. when he asserts himself and rolls to the hoop and attacks, he shouldnt be traded. but if hes gonna sit on the perimeter all game long (very similar to antoine walker if you think about it), i hope we do trade him for something of worth over the summer.

I would love to see Davis return on a one year deal.

Just like I would love to see Green come back for the qualifying offer.  (I think that type of control is one of the reason's that Ainge wanted Green)

Glen Davis will probably spend his off-season working on developing a three-point shot that will justify him jacking up one per game.

He's talked about adding it to his game in the past.

Some blogers are talking about BBD eating up cap space. That is crazy, Rondo got a 10 mil deal, if you think that Baby will want more than 5-6 mill per year(4-5 year deal) you are dead wrong and IMO that price is very reasonable for the best bench player and maybee a starter.

He would eat cap space, that' just a fact.

Rondo will be making around 10, Paul around 15, and then we have Bradley and a couple of other first round picks. If you add in an extension for BBD you can easily whittle what could be near max cap room down to less than 10 million.

You could say PP or Rondo is eating the same cap room, but the fact is those guys are already signed. I have the exact same concerns about Jeff Green.

Way too much for a bench guy that is one dimensional and peaked. Whatever it takes to re-sign Jeff Green (our PP replacement soon) who is our real best bench player is the the answer.

Lol, someone showed one of Baby's rare blocks, sorry there are more Baby shots blocked than there will ever be of him blocking shots. Still why don't I show some visuals...

The beginning of the end of starters sitting during 4th quarters. Before Leon Powe injury in 09', the starters would actually sit during 4th quarters because Leon was that good. This game signifies the end of that, and the start of opponents' comebacks. It might just be he's not effective on fastbreaks, something Jeff Green is perfect for.

Ah yes, the transition easy baskets. Rondo's strength, forte, and fit with the right player can run a team off the court. As you can see Baby is nowhere in this highlight and Green is playing with the first unit. Tell'em Tommy!

It all depends on contract length.  I'd be more willing to give Green bigger and longer money since he has more upside than Baby.  However, in the case of all of the players (though especially Baby and Krstic) I'd like to see management overpay them on 1-2 year deals.  For instance, if Baby gets a 3 year 15 million dollar offer elsewhere, would he take 7-8 million for one year here?

Now that's easier said than done with the luxury tax; however, it's something that could payoff big time next year (for one last run) and in the long term (with cap space).

Though to play devil's advocate to myself, with Shaq and JO under contract next year and the possiblity that Krstic is back, plus the possibility that they could sign a vet center to a MLE deal, do they even want to bother to commit any money to Baby?  If the C's are serious about giving Green big minutes, he's likely going to need all the backup minutes behind Pierce AND Garnett.  And that'd leave only the 5 spot for Baby, and if that's full too, it wouldn't make a ton of sense to break the bank for him.

Baby has been the guy to step in when the starters are off of their game (which has been ALOT lately) and has done an admirable job scoring, rebounding and playing his unique defensive game. He's also one of the main reasons we're the best defensive team in the east. If you let Baby walk, you will regret it.

The fact that Doc always plays him with the starters at the ends of games say a lot. And when our score is down, he always puts in Baby to lift the defense and bring us some points. When the game is on the line, he puts Baby in there....every time.

No one reaches their ceiling after 3 1/2 years in the NBA. The announcers last night, as horrible as they were, were even commenting on how our starters games have been the best of their careers and how they have gotten better over the years.

Most of the sports writers (I read alot of what they write), love Baby and consider him a major factor in our run to the Championship. Most say that without him, we would not be able to win.

So I'm going to go with what my eyes tell me, with what Doc thinks, and with what professional sports writers think and say to keep him at all costs. I think he is worth at least 8 million per year and probably more in the future.

No, I'm just like the majority here who think he's one of our key players.
