One of the upsides to trading perk was allowing us to re sign BBD next season. I'm sure this has been brought up, but after this season was over, Danny and crew would pretty much have to choose between the two. At the trade and still now, I believe keeping Baby over Perk was a better idea (IF we do resign him).

As to the OP idea, Regardless of the O'neals coming back next season, we need size in the frontcourt. Size that at least has some athletic ability (a few fudged lay ups are allowed  ). But ya, if Baby walks, we loose alot in his absence. Keeping Green will still give us scoring of the bench but he cant be a primary backup 4. I know BBD thinks hes a starting caliber player that deserves $$$$$ (remember 2 summers ago when he was ranting about why the C's havn't resigned him yet?) but even if he has peaked (I don't believe so), we need him as our back up 4 and starter for injuries (Post KG?, idk)

As for a sign and trade, how much would we offer him ($$$), and with that amount who could we get back? Do we find a legit 4 to replace KG (retired, lockout), or do we look elsewhere, starting center, multiplayer deal?

If Ainge is looking to build more of a running team in the future built around Rondo, Green, and the best free agent big he can find that fits into that scheme, does Glen Davis seem like a good fit for that blueprint of the future?

I'm guessing Baby walks for a more lucrative offer, Krstic get resigned, and Danny works his restricted free agency magic to lock Green up on a franchise friendly deal the same way he did with Baby a couple of off seasons ago.

I still believe he is not worth the MLE past this current teams run.  When KG and Ray go, Davis is no longer worth the MLE.  That contract then becomes a hindrance in rebuilding.

Davis is worth MORE then the MLE. And a team is GOING to pay him more then the MLE, either the Celtics, or someone else. Believe that.

I don't think he's worth more than the MLE, but i agree someone will overpay him to get him. I just hope it's not us.

I think Baby is a fantastic 6th-8th man on a contender, but as we saw when KG went down you can expose him as a starter at PF.

There is not MLE guy out there worth having past KG's and Ray's contract.

I'm a BIG big fan of Big Baby and I'll be so bold as to predict that he'll win us a few games in the playoffs with inspired play (because that's what he does, step up in big situations).  He's been a revelation this year (despite recent struggles) and I have enjoyed watching him develop.

With all that said, if we reach the free agent period and we have to chose between Davis and say Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic, I say re-sign the new guys and let Davis walk (or sign and trade him).

I think Davis is about peaked out with his potential.  He's done enough in his career to deserve a starting spot but I don't think he's the kind of guy you build around.  I also have worries about his emotional stability once the Old 3 are on the decline or retired.  And yes, I'll say it, I'm still concerned about his weight.  He's kept it off (in part motivated by a weight clause in his contract) but I worry about him as he grows older.

Bottom line, I think he's finally earned a bigger contract but I'd like to see someone else pay him that contract because I think there's inherent risk involved in him with little chance of him exceeding the contract's value (as he has for the last year or so).

This might be another post, but I think Green and Krstic have every opportunity to exceed the value they could be signed at this offseason.

Big caveats to all this:

1. We don't know what the offseason CBA negotiations will bring.
2. The playoffs could change things for all the free agents.

p.s. I also want Arroyo back on a short term deal.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said.  personally, I see BBD in a different uniform next year, preferably through a S&T to get some return on him.  Danny needs to retain Green and Krstic to really justify trading Perk.  These 2 have definitely proven they're keepers.

I don't think the C's would be major players in the FA market in 2012 but would have some flexibility.  Resigning Green and Krstic to go with PP, Rondo, Bradley and this year's picks would provide a decent foundation going forward and should allow the acquisition of some decent low-cost, high-value FA's.

I do not see Davis in a Celtics uniform next season either. He has peaked it terms of potential and Danny will see that and hopefully try to do a sign and trade. Danny is a smart GM and is willing to take a chance and letting Davis go or doing a sign and trade is taking a chance.

Green and Krstic will hopefully be brought back and that will fill what role Davis had on the team. Also something to look at is the fact that the Celtics have a decent amount of one year deals that are expiring plus I see JO retiring so who knows who Danny will bring in, if we even make it to the Finals again it will make other players want to play here. I don't see Wafer, Sasha or Murphy coming back but I think Arroyo might and hopefully West will be. 

This is all of course based around the idea that the lock out will not happen. If it does and we lose most or all of the season then that will be interesting to see what happens in the 2012-2013 season.
