Teams often regret signing four- or five- year contracts and, in the last few years, end up giving away assets to try and get someone to take a player they don't want anymore.

That's especially true for a team like Boston that's looking at a complete rebuilding job in the near future.  On the other hand, you've got to have someone on the court while rebuilding and you need trading assets.

Then he goes out there and fights like crazy at the end for those rebounds making it blatantly clear that his hustle is what endears him to fans.
So if he doesn't rebound, he's a crappy rebounder. If he does, it's fake hustle for the fans. Glen Davis just can't make people happy, can he?

Way to twist the meaning of my paragraph... My point, which I think is pretty clear, is that the guy does indeed hustle and makes you want to root for him. The trouble however is that he is such a ground bound player that he should never have to have done what he did. If Kristic for example got the rebound he would have went back up and dunked it or forced them to foul him. Shaq or KG without a doubt. The Pacers however block his shot flat footed forcing him to fight for the board.

I love his hustle out there. Just because you hustle though doesn't make you a great player. He has flaws that will only get worse as he gets older, therefore either a 2 yr on the cheap contract is appropriate, or we let him walk. 4-5 yrs from now it is unlikely he will even be in the NBA.

I'd stick with Kristic and Green. BB has reached his max use.

I'm pretty shocked anyone would advocate for signing Kristich over BBD.  Kristich sucks, BBD is good.  I say emphatically, sign him.

BBD is still our best bench player, West is our 2nd, and Green is our 3rd.

Putting down BBD and saying Krstic is better then him is absurd. ABSURD.

Krstic is terrible. I dont care if BBD is undersized, he is much better then Krstic on both ends of the floor.

Tonight's game gave us a perfect example of why BBD needs to stay here.  That defensive gear that this team hits when the game's on the line -- that one that carried them to Game 7 of the finals last year and that everyone was afraid would be lost with Perk's departure....They hit it tonight the last 6 minutes of the game.  They've still got it and BBD is a part of that 5 man unit that always finishes games.  It remains Doc's best lineup.

Green may have more talent, but I'm not sure he can consistently rise to the occasion like BBD does and put in the work defensively.  Take Davis away from this team and you weaken it considerably.

I want Green & Kristic to stick around.  But BBD has to be the priority vs those two.

Ray Allen is priority first off, some how people forget him in all this. Jeff Green I'm sure wants to be locked up, but we'll see if he likes how Doc has used him. Never mention Baby and game 7 if you're making a case for him.

You mean game 7 against the Lakers where baby had 9 rebounds to KG's 3? Baby was probably the least to blame in that game.

Knowing full well how the 13 point lead was aided by KG despite his knee, you still think Baby's rebounds and defense in that game helped do what? Keep it close? Because the 1st unit was more than fine before Baby came into that game. Did we not watch it happen again at the Garden this season when the Lakers couldn't miss after Baby subbed in this season? How many points scored with those rebounds by the way to help? Fans who blame KG need to hear the captain say again and again how they don't make the Finals without him. Like say 09' post season to be exact.

Some people blame the loss on KG not being 100% and grabbing only 3 rebounds, or not having Perkins, Pierce letting Artest get the best of him, Ray not hitting any shots and Rondo shooting 26% free throws.  You are the first person to blame it on a bench player when the 3 hall of famers are supposed to carry the load. ::)

Assuming there's not a huge difference in the contracts, I would much rather keep Davis then Krstic. Davis is a better fit for this team right now and for the future. Neither is a starter on a championship team probably, but Davis is a good 1st big off the bench due to his versatility. Also, since Davis is younger and has performed well in the playoffs, it would probably be pretty easy to dump his contract (or maybe even get some value back) if we wanted to clear cap space once we start rebuilding. Sign him something to like a 4 year/22M with last year being team option or small amount guaranteed. If after next year we want to totally rebuild, I'm sure there will be a few teams, especially ones that are close to contending, who would take him if we wanted to dump his salary.

With Perk gone we need fighters/enforcers /bangers , people not scared to take charge , take a bloody nose , ect.  Glen makes them pay for every bucket inside. His type of play is overlooked by many fans..looking for only points.

BBD is a Barkley type of player , he isn't pretty to watch in action .  But, he is relentless on Court , pushing, shoving, scraping, banging heads for every rebound and contesting everyball near him. Old school Celtics all the way. He can control space UNDER the bucket and clog the lane. Cowans would be proud.

I'll take low points from him  long as he brings the fight to the other team everynight.

I apsolutely love Big Baby and I can't think of him being somewhere else. That dude gets it done, and right now he knows his role, and plays it to perfection.

If we're rebuilding how important is the your backup PF/C? (he's shown that he is a liability when starting)
