I can't see a team winning four best-of-seven playoffs series playing an undersized backup center who shoots 43%, gets out-rebounded, and outscored.

The Celtics in 2008 and 2009 probably met that criteria, if I had to guess.  I suppose it depends upon whether Mikki Moore counts as undersized.

DENVER NUGGETS
PG: Russell Westbrook, Steve Blake, Daniel Gibson
SG: Marcus Thornton, Ronnie Brewer
SF: Tervor Ariza, Josh Childress
PF: Taj Gibson, James Singleton, Darrell Arthur
C:  Tim Duncan, Darko Milicic, Aaron Gray

It starts with Duncan, but Westbrook is a year away from taking the reigns of the team.

A core of great defenders -- WB, Duncan, Ariza, Brewer, Gibson
Stable of solid, if unspectacular backup bigs -- Arthur, Milicic, Singleton, Gray
Shooters -- Thornton, Gibson, Childress, Blake
An intriguing option to press for 5-10 mins/gm with a small, defensive lienup-- WB, Brewer, Ariza, Singleton, Gibson

Coach Larry Brown will have them "playing the right way".

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
A little glimpse of my vision:

(the x% is the percent out of a 100% for minutes per game at that postion. So, if I have Mike Miller 46% at the SG, and 20% at the SF, he's playing 22 mins at the SG and 10 mins at the SF, 32 mins total)

PG: Brandon Jennings (75%), Eric Maynor (25%)
SG(pre All-Star Break): Mike Miller (46%), Von Wafer(34%), Landry Fields (10%), Tony Allen (10%)
SF: LeBron James (60%), Tony Allen (25%), Mike Miller (15%)
PF: Ersan Ilyasova (60%), LeBron James (20%), Louis Amundson(10%), Gani Lawal(10%)
C: Joakim Noah (65%), Louis Amundson (20%), Kyrylo Fesenko (15%)

Waitin til February: Michael Redd

This may sound crazy, but any chance you want to start young at the 2?

If he was a better 3 point shooter it wouldn't be crazy at all.

Except in 2009 Boston lost in the semi-finals?

Also isn't Davis a better comparison than Moore? (Mikki only even appeared in six games that post-season.) He rates out better both offensively and defensively at the 5 than Amundson.

Ah, I missed the "four" in your statement, so yes, the '09 team is out.  (Moore was included because BBD was the starting power forward, and not really the backup center.)

In '08, both Brown and BBD were both probably pretty comparable to Amundson.

Teams get by with only 3 quality big men all the time. The Celtics did in 2007-2008, the Lakers have the past two years, and plenty of other teams have as well.

You're making a mountain out of a molehill. I'm not sure what center poses such an awful match up problem for IPs centers that would automatically lose him the series. (maybe Dwight but I don't think any other C is dominant enough)

I guess we agree to disagree, but I see don't see a mole hill when I compare

Noah/Ilyasova/Amundson
Perkins/Garnett/Davis or Brown
Bynum/Gasol/Odom

Way off? Nobody else?

According to IP LeBron will be playing 25% of his minutes at the 4. I do agree length can/could be a problem for his team but it doesn't mean they can't contend still!

Especially when playing under a coach like D'Antoni.

I do like Lebron at the 4.

I'm probably more concerned about the minutes that an unproven Maynor, a enigmatic Wafer, and an undersized Allen (at SF) will be asked to play.

Not to mention the rookie Fields and the still-raw Fesenko.

I'd feel much better if there were fewer young/inconsistent players pressed into the rotation.

Ladies and Gentleman, Your Team of The Future!

Portland Trailblazers

Coach: Jerry Sloan

Starters
C- Brook Lopez
PF - Derrick Favors
SF - Thaddeus Young
SG - Evan Turner
PG - Goran Dragic

Sixth Man
C - Spencer Hawes

Bench
PF - Matt Bonner
SF - Luke Walton
SG - Maurice Evans
PG - Jason Williams

The rights to Ricky Rubio.
The rights to Sergio Rodriguez

Total Payroll -  $30.783 Million

- A coach that turns any situation into gold and has developed countless players since taking over the Jazz in 1988.
- One of the top Center's in the league at age 22.
- 2 HIGH level rookies prospects.
- A PG that proved he can step his game up when the stakes are high.
- A young, legit 7-foot Sixth Man who is still developing and has proved he can start in this league.
- A "show up to work, do your job" bench that know their role.
- A HIGH level PG prospect overseas who will join the team in a next year or two.
- Economical flexibility to absorb key players (Similar to Utah with Al Jefferson or Washington with Hinrich).

Are Young and Dragic bona fide starters in this league?

Starting not one, but two, rookies in a league that eats its young is a tough sell. You risk destroying their confidence right out of the gate. You could be headed for a losing season of historic proportions.

Looking at your roster, I see very little positional flexibility among your players; in particular, your bench is comprised not just of role players, but specialized niche players.

Also, I still am trying to get my head around Sloan coaching this bunch. I would have thought Lawrence Frank a better choice.

Thadeus Young has started 138 of the 216 games he’s played in throughout his career. And I agree, while Dragic is a question mark, “question marks” surround all teams building for the future. Rubio is the main guy at the PG in the future anyway. The real question is: will Dragic raise the bar once he gets a chance? Based on the playoffs last season, I say yes. This will be a 25 to 30 win team after the draft and free agency that will gain valuable playing experience throughout the season.

Destroying their confidence right out of the gate? Hmm… What are you implying here?  That the mental makeup of each player I drafted is so fragile that a bad season will ruin their ability to play in the NBA? If so, where’s the evidence of this? The last team I can remember that started two top 6 lottery picks was the 96-97 Boston Celtics. That team was the youngest team in the league at the time with a roster mainly comprised of rookies and 2nd year players. They went 28-38 until Pitino traded Billups for Anderson at the February deadline. Three of the 1st and 2nd year players on that team went on to win a combined 5 NBA championships….

Scott Brooks would have been my first choice based on what he did with a similar bunch, but from where I was picking you DO NOT pass on Jerry Sloan.

Utah Jazz

Coach:  Gregg Popovich

PG: Jose Calderon / Willie Green / Chris Quinn
SG: Omri Cassipi / Danilo Gallinari
SF: Luc Richard Mbah A Moute / Wesley Johnson
PF: Pau Gasol / Craig Smith
C:  Yao Ming / Robin Lopez / Brian Zoubek

Still working on the best way to utilize my wings.  Gallinari may play more of the 3 when in and I'll slide Mbah a Moute to the 4 if Gasol is out or playing center for brief minutes.  A work in progress with rotations.

Not true. We did a "Pick 2 Draft" last season where money was a factor, and I went young and was still able to assemble a young solid team.

People pick wins over imaginary money every time.

But this isn't the Pick 2 Draft, this is a different game.

I was under the impression that salaries are not a factor in this draft.  If that were the case, then KG was easily the worst pick of this whole draft haha.  I also would not have drafted Kobe 3rd, but would have settled for the $10M less Dwyane Wade.

Salaries arent a factor and shouldn't be considered.  If people want to hold themselves to it when they're drafting, however, all the power to them.

I disagree, economic factors surrounding a  Team of The Future are crucial for being in position to get that "over the top" player and to take that next step.

The Blazers are in a great position from that standpoint.
