Ladies and Gentleman, Your Team of The Future!

Portland Trailblazers

Coach: Jerry Sloan

Starters
C- Brook Lopez
PF - Derrick Favors
SF - Thaddeus Young
SG - Evan Turner
PG - Goran Dragic

Sixth Man
C - Spencer Hawes

Bench
PF - Matt Bonner
SF - Luke Walton
SG - Maurice Evans
PG - Jason Williams

The rights to Ricky Rubio.
The rights to Sergio Rodriguez

Total Payroll -  $30.783 Million

- A coach that turns any situation into gold and has developed countless players since taking over the Jazz in 1988.
- One of the top Center's in the league at age 22.
- 2 HIGH level rookies prospects.
- A PG that proved he can step his game up when the stakes are high.
- A young, legit 7-foot Sixth Man who is still developing and has proved he can start in this league.
- A "show up to work, do your job" bench that know their role.
- A HIGH level PG prospect overseas who will join the team in a next year or two.
- Economical flexibility to absorb key players (Similar to Utah with Al Jefferson or Washington with Hinrich).

Any concern over your primary ball handler?

Goran Dragic spent just as much time at the 2 as he did at the 1, so practically he only averaged 9 MPG at the point guard position last year.

Also, he had only the 54th best assist to turnover rating, as well the 10th worst turnover rate (% of possessions that ended in turnovers) among point guards.

Is it a trial by fire because you see a losing season anyways, or are you more in a believer of "let the team develop, but we're still projecting a competitive season" school?

Hey Jsaad, economic flexibility/payroll should be completely thrown out of the discussion here because a lot of these players wouldn't have fallen to you if that were being considered.

Not true. We did a "Pick 2 Draft" last season where money was a factor, and I went young and was still able to assemble a young solid team.

Are Young and Dragic bona fide starters in this league?

Starting not one, but two, rookies in a league that eats its young is a tough sell. You risk destroying their confidence right out of the gate. You could be headed for a losing season of historic proportions.

Looking at your roster, I see very little positional flexibility among your players; in particular, your bench is comprised not just of role players, but specialized niche players.

Also, I still am trying to get my head around Sloan coaching this bunch. I would have thought Lawrence Frank a better choice.

But this isn't the Pick 2 Draft, this is a different game.

I was under the impression that salaries are not a factor in this draft.  If that were the case, then KG was easily the worst pick of this whole draft haha.  I also would not have drafted Kobe 3rd, but would have settled for the $10M less Dwyane Wade.

Salaries arent a factor and shouldn't be considered.  If people want to hold themselves to it when they're drafting, however, all the power to them.

Those 82games.com numbers for position are incorrect. They rule Leandro Barbosa as the point guard when Dragic and he play together.

Dragic was playing the overwhelming majority of his minutes at the point.

I'd be curious to hear people's opinions on the best lineup / rotation to put together with this group of talent:

C:  Big Z / Petro
PF: Boozer / Bargnani / Hansborough
SF: Lewis / Jefferson / Jeffries
SG: Lee / Garcia
PG: Rose / Teague

At least it looks like a legitimate team.  Good enough.
There are a couple of different lineups you could use. Not sure any one of them is any better than the other though. They look fairly comparable overall, just achieve their end result in different ways.
  • Go big up front with Boozer + Petro, or, Boozer + Bargnani.
  • Go smaller with Boozer + Hansbrough, or, Boozer + Lewis.
I wouldn't start Ilgauskas and I would consider moving Garcia into the starting lineup instead of Courtney Lee on the small lineups.

I'd like this team a lot better if it were in the East.  You're going to have trouble matching up with Utah and Phoenix.  The smaller lineup here would be impossible to matchup against either of them.  Not only could Boozer not guard Howard effectively, but he would expend so much energy trying he'd have to be useless offensively.  I don't know Petro, but none of the other players can guard him either.  I think Z and Boozer could hold down Utah well enough for your backcourt to carry you to a victory though.  Eh, it'd be close I guess.

Hey, if you're considering the Kings in the same breath as those teams, then I'm happy.  This wasn't completely "my team", but I'm happy I was able to inject some new life into it.

And the last time Dwayne had a halfway decent team he won. Dwayne Wade has been the best 2 guard in the NBA, if not the best player, for 3 years now and only a few people on this blog will agree with me on that.
