Luke Harangody

Actually, if you watch his form in frame by frame, it's fine.  It's his follow through that looks totally spastic and off the wall.  But the ball comes off his hand like a normal jumpshot, just a lower trajectory and obviously lower elevation.

Which may prove to be his downfall to making it in the NBA. If harangody can consistenly make set 3 pointers he might have a chance in the league since he is strong, smart, passes well, and works hard.  But his 3 point shot release is low and the ball trajectory is flat.  This means a defender can block the shot if he can close on harangody quickly enough.

Think of Ray allen's shot. He gets good elevation, has a high release, and the ball has a high trajectory so he can get his shots off even with a defender in his face. How many shots did we see Ray make that were just a few inches over a defender's fingers?

With harangody, that same defender blocks the shot.

I would welcome the thoughts of other cbers on this.

  With harangody, that same defender is a step or two farther away than he is from Ray.

Man, nice pickup Danny !  We got this guy at #52 ?  Obviously, his shots were falling so no matter how bad you think his shot looks, it was going in. The shot looks like the strong point of his game.  I also saw another guy who uses his body well, despite being undersized out there.  Good head for the game.

Theres probably a good reason he was the only player in the illustrious 30-year history of the Big East Conference to average 20 points and 10 rebounds in Big East play for his career and was a three-time first-team All-Big East choice. He was the Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2008.  Harangody scored 2,476 points and grabbed 1,222 rebounds during his four-year career.

I'm not counting him out of anything, including getting minutes from Doc on the floor as a rookie.  Summer league or not.

He looks like Ryan Gomes...except shorter, slower, and with a much more blockable jump shot.  I think he could find a spot in the league (at the end of the bench), but unless he fixes that shot, I don't think he is going to do too much.

3 pointers getting blocked... that's a new one. I thought I heard it all with all the BBD gets his shot blocked complaints.


He's not shorter that's for sure.  Does Kevin Martin get his 3's blocked?  He's more skilled than Gomes around the hope as well.  I think he's mortal lock for the roster we shall see.

Good point. If Shawn Marion can managed to not get his shot blocked I think Harangody will be fine, too.

He's not shorter that's for sure.

Actually, he is, but only by half an inch. Gomes measured out 6'6.5" without shoes coming into the league, Harangody an even 6'6".

Gomes has a much longer wingspan though, which helps as a "big 3" asked to guard quicker players out on the perimeter.

Along with Gody, Artie P and Kravstov would be good to keep around to fill out the roster and develop. Artie's rebounding and upside (only playing hoop for about 5-6 years)and Kravstov's size and competitiveness (mean streak)speak to keeping them around. Can't have enough size, as we found out the hard way last month.

I was impressed again. BBD ought to be working on his jumper!  If Luke can solidify his defense and play with heart he is a great backup off the bench at that spot. The guy is a scorer and definitely a rebounder. Add some good D and he will have a solid career off the bench.

Although this team is less experienced than last year, they're overall playing quite a bit better.  (Despite the centers being more raw.)

Not sure if i can believe the writers claim that Harangody is a cross between Larry Bird and Tyler Hansborough. So if that is the case how was he not drafted at least top 5 at worst by mid teens is beyond me.

Maybe Hansborough but not sure about Larry Bird resemblance other than that he is white. We saw last night that he can def shoot the three , but not with a hand in his face the weird way he shoots, and we still have to see if he can come through at the clutch like Bird did numerous times. Bird also played smart defense and was a hard nosed player which i can kind of see in Harangody.

What i liked best what the writer of the article about Harangody is that " Most of his competition has often been taller, more athletic and quicker yet Luke kept ringing the bells"

A clip from last nights game for anyone who missed it. Harangody launching threes like he was Ray Allen's teacher (like someone said in this forum).

The first one he steps back, quick glance and launch at warp speed to the basket and runs back to his end like it was nothing.

high hopes for Harangody.  I'm not worried about his outside shot.  He shoots from where he catches it and does it quickly.  Getting it blocked won't be a problem unless he's blind to a nearby defender's presence.  Today, however, he struggled putting in some easy bunnies....hopefully just one of those days...
