I don't think Danny's plan is to keep him here ... we'll see what pans out over the summer.

Check out this video.

His shot is ugly, but he'll be able to get that hook shot off on anyone.  I like this pick.

Luke is going to rip up summer league and will get a roster spot.  I'm sure of it.

Luke won't be able to do even 1/10 of that kinda stuff against real NBA defenders.  Still, if he indeed is a hard worker maybe he can learn to do something resembling that against NBA subs.

Still, I feel like best case scenario is he's Glen Davis 2.0...we don't need 2 undersized power forwards with that skill set.  The only way Luke has a place on this team - even if he turns out to be an NBA player - is if he can somehow play small forward.

I agree. 3/4 of what he did in that film, and almost all of his rebounds, would not have panned out against NBA competition. Guys are gonna be jumping over him unless he learns to get consistently great position. And really, he's a worse athlete than Glen Davis. Like, substantially. I don't see it really working out unless he gets in great shape and gets his fundamentals so solid and his outside shot so automatic that he can make up for his inherent lack of athleticism.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Yeah, who knows.  But this draft started to suck so bad that I believe Danny just went with the pick of least resistance.

Low risk high reward pick. He has an NBA mentality.

I like his tenacity in the post. I wonder how his perimeter game is.

He's definitely a fighter. I like it.

Tommy Heinsohn is going to love this kid with all those hook shots.

He's got a pretty good looking jumper and can hit it with a hand in his face. No skills off the dribble at all.

I think his rebounding will translate.  He's got good hands, great strength, good instincts and he pursues the ball with tenacity.  There have been some great rebounders lacking size and athleticism: Reggie Evans and Danny Fortson come to mind.

I agree that most of his offense won't translate to the NBA, which is why he spent so much of his senior year jacking 3s to improve his draft stock.

My hopeful prediction for this kid is Matt Harpring 2.0 in a year or two. 8)

  • Welcome to the Loud House
If anyone here follows the BEast as faithfully as I do, you would know that when the Haragutang got injured at the end of the year, his team went on a great run that put them into the tourney... then Harangody returned and they exited in the first round. he takes a LOT of shots. Understanding he has to score points for ND to be good, him scoring 20 a game was more a result of taking upwards of 20-30 shots each game.

He is very unathletic, and despite him looking good in that video against Louisville, at the Carrier Dome in 2009 (not last season, the 08-09 season) we played man on him, he was unable to rebound or get off good shots against a very strong, physical center in Arinze Onuaku. Syracuse decided to go M2M that game to contain Harangody, and completely shut him down.

He would be ok to have on the roster if we didn't have Baby already. But he is a less athletic, more physically limited Glen Davis. Don't get your hopes up.

To me he's more like a "big-man" version of Austin Croshere

Two things here.  Unless Rivers decides to go to some Don Nelson version of smallball, Harangody will never be matched up against a very strong, physical center.  If he does, there's a mismatch somewhere else.

Nor will he ever be the Celtics' first/only option like he was at Notre Dame.

See how he does in Summer League and training camp.  Who knows?  Danny usually knows what he's doing.

I don't think Rivers can handle or develop projects.  Whether or not Harangody can play at the next level remains to be seen....But I'm glad Danny drafted somebody who knows how to play basketball.

Syracuse did shut down Gody's offensive game (9-28 from the field!), but you can hardly say Arinze kept him off the boards.  Gody outrebounded him 16 to 8.

And this season, Gody torched the Arinze-Wes Johnson frontcourt for 31-14 on 50% shooting.

The guy can rebound and score against high level competition.  His struggles with scoring efficiency would indicate that he should take a back-seat to his NBA teammates on shot-creating and shot-taking opportunities, but he should be able to rebound right away.
