Well, draft express gave a few reasons why everyone in the NBA may have passed on Warren in the first round....
- Few players in recent memory have seen their NBA draft stock and overall reputation take as big of a hit as Willie Warren’s has this past season. Considered a likely top-10 pick had he elected to declare a year ago, Warren decided to stick around for another season and has seen his stock plummet to the point that it’s anyone’s guess where he might be picked at this point.
Some terrible losses early in the season, being benched in one game for undisclosed reasons, getting called out by his head coach in the national media at one point for his immature behavior, a nagging ankle injury that seemingly won’t heal, an untimely bout of mononucleosis–it’s tough to see how this season could have possibly gone any worse for the super talented sophomore.
Plus being a 6'2" sg and averaging 3.8 turn overs a game may not have helped either.
In any case, Luke groundplodder is the property of the celtics.
I have only seen him play one game, period.
What I saw was a very very hard working, smart player who has a range of ok-to-good offensive tools. His height and energy made him a good college rebounder.
But I also noticed that he is slow and not athletic enough to be an everyday NBA player. I would worry a lot about his man to man defense in the NBA were I his coach.
Off the bench against NBA bench players, he might survive in the right team system. He did average about 22 points and 9 rebounds a game, so he not completely untalented.
Heck, he was picked at 52nd? If he winds up being the 10th or 11th guy for the celtics, that is not bad.
