I'd love to see that.  The versatility of a Bradley, Allen, Beasley, Davis bench would be huge. Each of those guys can play big so you can run Rondo or another starter with them and with the exception of TA they can all stretch the floor so defenses can't sag off too much.

IMO a few years of Beasley getting mentored by true professionals is the best chance this kid will have to realize his potential.  If he grows up and finds his way in the C's system a Beasley, Rondo lineup moving forward is not terrible.

Hopefully we can do this, turn around and give the MLE to a big like Haywood.  Anyone know what happened to Nesterovich?  His stats from last years stink, but prior to that I remember him being true 7 footer who could do some rebounding...

Don't know the answer to this question - but I've been advocating this move for days.

My fear, though, is that ownership would prefer to pocket the money.

Danny doesn't have unlimited money to spend. He might not, for instance, be able to spend the MLE and trade Sheed's contract. But it does seem that he could get a better player by trading the contract than he could with the MLE (unless he wants to split the MLE). The only wrinkle is that, from what Maxwell was saying last night, is that Sheed might want a buyout.
If Sheed wants a buyout, that throws a wrench into the trade ideas.  Just as I was gaining respect for him for walking away when he'd had enough, this pops up where he wants to be paid to walk away.

Another thing about trading Sheed right now is that there is still a scenario where the C's have about $15 million in cap space if he retires, and comes off the books, and Pierce opts out.  I think the chance of that happening certainly gives reason to wait and see before even considering trading his contract.

And even if Pierce and Allen do come back, I think that money coming off the books would be very valuable for this team, who have been struggling a bit financially, and may not have been able to afford Ray and the MLE if Sheed was on the books.

Beasley is intriguing and his contract really isn't that bad: 5 million this year, 6 million the year after, 8 million in 2012-2013.  Assuming the C's could afford him luxury-wise, I'd be interested in giving him a trial run.  Worst case he's a scorer off the bench who we could use as trade bait in two years.  Best case he finally lives up to his potential and we have our power forward of the future.  Only problem is that it's a lot of money locked up in two guys (him and BBD) who aren't centers.  Still, considering the KG is as tall as a center, creative substitutions could work out.

i don't think anyone has mentioned that Miami may think twice about dumping the second pick in the draft to the team that booted them out of the playoffs two months ago...

you would figure if they are getting a salary dump from the C's in Sheed, i sincerely doubt they wouldn't have about 12 other teams they could work with to hand over a potential future all star, even if he loves the pipe.

I have no problem with Sheed getting a buyout to facilitate a trade. He could go file his papers with the NBA to retire and then the C's couldn't trade him. Or he could come back and half donkey it and get two more years at 12+ million. So either way he's doing the C's a favor and if that means he gets a buyout, that's fine with me.

There is ZERO chance that Miami will take that trade since it is not guaranteed that Sheed will retire. I can't imagine that it's legal to trade a retired player, either.

I know that Miami wanted to trade for Ryan Gomes' non-guaranteed deal, but he was sent to Portland, so that option is gone. I don't know who else has a contract that will work for them, except for Milwaukee and Carlos Delfino. I think that would be a great move for MKE. Now that Gomes is gone Riley doesn't even have the leverage to ask for future picks.

Keyon Dooling is still out there.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that the Nets would like to have the cap relief he provides for themselves.

Not sure if this is new news or not. From some Miami newspaper, via RealGM:

Quote
The Heat were making forward Michael Beasley available via trade on Thursday night and could still look to deal the former second overall pick.

Miami isn't expected to ask for anything more than additional cap space in return for Beasley.

He is set to make about $4.96 million next season.

Struggling financially?  You're joking, right?

The Celtics ticket prices keep going up every year, and they have sold out every game for the last three years.  Additionally, they have had two finals appearances in that same time, which is all pure revenue.  Then add in the fact the Celtics are one of the leagues top sellers of team merchandise, and play in one of the largest TV markets in the country (for a network owned by one of the largest cable companies in the country).  There is no way the Celtics are struggling financially, even with one of the highest payrolls.

some one correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the league has precedent over a retired player being traded.  i'm drawing a complete blank, but i am sure it has happened, just for this purpose.

only if they've officially retired with the league and their contract is not enforceable... otherwise they get paid until then.

we also would be saving money presumably in an offer to Ray (reduced salary compared to last season) and Paul (opts out and re-signs for less than the 22 mil he's due currently).

I don't think it's unreasonable to sign another full MLE player AND use Sheed's retiring contract to land us another player.

I'd add Bradley (as much as I like him) to Sheed and look to get a quality big with that combo.

don't know if this has been mentioned (didn't look through all 8 pages) but my initial preference would be:

GS gets Rasheed Wallace
BOS gets Rony Turiaf & Kelenna Azubuike

With the news that Perk may have torn ACL, i think it's an absolute MUST that we get back a center with Rasheed's contract.

Why for GSW: It saves $1M this year and $4M next -- they are in deep cost-cutting mode while their owner tries to sell the team; Wallace's expiring contract is a great trade chip should they want to further cut costs.

Why for BOS: Turiaf is a tough defender, if a bit undersized for the Center spot. He's a great shotblocker and good passer. Perhaps more importantly, adding a guy like Turiaf (borderline starter, strong bench guy) through a trade, reduces the pressure to overpay for a center on the FA market (i.e. B. Haywood, etc.)

Azubuike, Rondo's college teammate IIRC, is a good outside shooter, defender and plus rebounder at the 2. He gives us a backup plan if we lost Ray Allen and/or makes it more possible to add talent if Ray asks for a sign/trade. Again, if Ray resigns (my preference) Azubuike could either start, letting Ray come off the bench as 6th man, or provide quality scoring off the bench himself.
