I like my Sheed for Zaza + Mo Evans trade.
Cs get quality backups at the Center and SG/SF spots.
Cs still have the MLE to fill out the backup PG and SF spots.
ATL is reportedly trying to reduce salary, and they don't give up any of their stars (which would hurt marketability and hence franchise value).
Celtics fan for life.

I think I'd try like heck to package him with someone else, a pick, cash, S&T a player who would be open to being bought out quickly (Scal, anyone to match the money) to try to get a #1 scorer...Joe Johnson if we could be so lucky, Big Al, David Lee, or Boozer if we're not quite as lucky but still grinnin'...

I don't think the C's are going to be able to trade Sheed at all, but if they did they should go for the main teams in the Lebron + 1 sweepstakes.  Those teams are under the cap but would like to get even more under to get two max guys.

Of those 4 teams, Chicago, NY, NJ and Miami, only Chicago and NJ have players worth trading for that are under contract.

My two targets would be Devin Harris and Hinrich.  Deng too but they would have to add Baby or Perk to the trade to make salaries work.

We don't need either player but it would be great to get something for nothing.  Don't be surprised if Harris, Deng and/or Hinrich get traded for nothing just to open up space.

The reason either team would do it would be because it would be instant cap relief and would allow either of the two teams to get Lebron and Wade or Bosh but also keep Rose and Noah or Brooke Lopez and the # 3 pick.

Forget about Beasley, he's a slightly richer man's version of Marcus Fizer.  He'll never be a defensive player at the 3 or 4, and the C's need guys that play both ends.

TOTALLY disagree about Beasley, who was a fine defensive player in college and has good enough feet to defend all but the tallest 4s at the 3 and 4.

Could not disagree more.

I totally agree with you, greg_kite, about trading for Devin Harris.  That would be huge.  Sheed and Baby for Harris works.

They are desperate to shed his salary to be able to offer 3 max contracts.  The trade works, and Sheed's going to retire anyway, so his contract would be off their books.  Anyway, seems like an ideal way to get a young talent.  Would love to do this instead of getting nothing for Sheed.

Yes, I'd like this trade as well.

Probably as good as we could do for Rasheed's contract, and the Celtics desperately need an infusion of youth, athleticism, and potential.  It's the sort of risk / reward decision Danny needs to make to keep this team relevant.

I have to believe that on a team with a point guard who can actually get him good looks Beasley will produce.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
If he officially announces his retirement can his contract still be moved?

Count me in! All for it and fingers are crossed.

I'm thinking he has to submit paperwork stating he's retired for it to be official, not just a verbal, but I'm not sure.

Well, truth be known, I don't really know if when a guy retires, his contract immediately comes off the books.  I'm hoping that's true, so maybe we can get some return for him.

Yeah, Rasheed's now immediately expiring contract is the only way the Celtics could have any kind of trade chip in this off-season, barring a S+T of Ray Allen.

So hopefully his contract can be used in that capacity.
