Yes. I'm all for this, and I've been all for this for a while. I even traded Sheed for Beasley in NBA Live 10!

If he officially announces his retirement can his contract still be moved?

Good question

Here's another: why do we want to help the Heat get 3 quality max FAs?  It will make them harder to beat.

Don't know the answer to this question - but I've been advocating this move for days.

My fear, though, is that ownership would prefer to pocket the money.

You must've included picks in this?  I can only ever get Brendan Haywood for Sheed straight up ..  :)
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

Would anyone consider a trade of Wallace for Okafor?   Okafor is signed for many more years until 2014 and probably makes a little too much money but he is a defensive minded center and you know what you are getting out of him.   It will help the Hornets cut some major payroll which I think they are looking to do.

Answer: Because someone else will do it if we don't. So, if it's going to happen anyway, why don't we benefit from it?

He's a gamble, no doubt, but high reward, low risk.

I believe it still counts against the cap, so it should.

Yes until he's officially filed paperwork with the league about his retirement.

I can't blame them if they do.
They have spent a lot of money the last few years.
As a fan, I want them to trade the contract to bring back a quality player, use the full MLE, sign PP to whatever he wants and sign RA to whatever he wants.
In reality, all four of these things will probably not happen.
Celtics fan for life.

I don't see why anyone would object unless there's someone else out there they can get for Sheed's contract.

Having seen the C's draft picks, it would seem this is would be the move needed to shore up the backup 3/4 spots and allow Danny to use the MLE on Haywood to plug the hole at Center until Perk can play.

Resign Ray and TA.

Team looks like Rondo, Ray, PP, KG and Haywood (starting the year)
bench: Bradley, TA, Beasley, BBD, vet min big (if Danny can get one with a pulse)
Maybe Shelden is resigned as an extra big or Erden shows up and fills the backup C spot until Perk comes back.

Harangody goes to D league or ends up at end of bench.

I LOVE Okafor on this team but that contract is ludacris.

Does this idea of trading to Miami and Miami being able to buyout Sheed for cap space work under the NBA cap.  Having trouble following it (shocking)

My fear, though, is that ownership would prefer to pocket the money.

Danny doesn't have unlimited money to spend. He might not, for instance, be able to spend the MLE and trade Sheed's contract. But it does seem that he could get a better player by trading the contract than he could with the MLE (unless he wants to split the MLE). The only wrinkle is that, from what Maxwell was saying last night, is that Sheed might want a buyout.
