I would love for Boston to go for Beasley. It seems that Miami is actively trying to get rid of him, and a trade involving Sheed would seem to do the trick just fine.
The guy has undeniable talent...it's really his "heart" and "drive" that are questioned. Personally I don't think he lacks any of those attributes. He is stuck on an underperforming team driven by a wildly transcendent superstar...and virtually no other stabilizing veteran presence (other than a washed-out Jermaine O'neal). In other words, the Miami Heat are a team with ill-fitting parts, and I don't think it's quite fair to judge Beas by what he is (or isn't) able to do there. Beas just doesn't fit well with D-Wade's style of play, and for that reason he is maligned by many that don't even watch him often.
In addition, he's young, and he's in Miami Beach. Would you trust some of OUR young guys (or even yourselves!) in a setting like that?
The main two questions are these:
1. How much risk is involved in acquiring a player like this?
2. How will this player fit on a team such as this in the future?
I think this is one of those low-risk, high-reward type of situations. Beas can be taught the ropes by a REAL veteran...a REAL hall of fame-level power forward...KG. I truly think he could turn out to be a protege of his. I see the talent. I think he just needs the guidance. He will flourish under a Boston tutelage...and he'll be given a CLEAR role...unlike in Miami.
...and now we get to the second question. It's unquestionably clear to nearly every fan of the Celtics (and even the NBA) that Rondo is the future of this club. Boston needs players that suit HIS style of play. Rondo needs a mobile 4 that can space the floor with excellent shooting, and even better drive penetration skills. Beas fills the script perfectly. He's also athletic, and he'll certainly run the fast break well with Rondo. He has the potential to be an Amare-type player, especially with Rondo running the show.
Our team of the future needs more mobile, offensively-oriented bigs. Given a year or two of bench tutelage under KG (and with Baby), Beas could turn into an all-star caliber player...maybe even more. Who knows? Who cares? If you can get him for basically nothing (a retired Sheed contract), then go for it!
I have a feeling Danny is already planning for this. This seems like his sort of thing. Get a player on the downside of his potential...steal him from a team that doesn't appreciate his talents, and won't wait to develop them...and watch him build into the superstar that he can potentially be!
