If Wallace does indeed retire, i'd like the C's to make a run at Marcus Camby.

Sign and trade Ray to portland for Camby and Webster??

Maybe if we include Perk as well.  Portland needs the depth of having Camby there, since their other Centers are so fragile.

Also, I don't think Ray is a good fit for them, since both Roy and Ray are prototypical SG's.

If Sheed does retire, I think the C's should look at bringing in a younger guy like Amir Johnson, as well as a veteran like Brad Miller to have as an insurance policy.

Didn't Camby already sign an extension, like a couple months back?  Something like two year, $20M?

I had been pining for Marcus, working under the assumption that they were likely going to put Perk quietly on the trading block (not going to happen now that he's hurt).

EDIT: I do hope that if and when 'Sheed decides to retire, he'd be open to coming back mid-season a la PJ Brown.  Give him some time to heal, and a month or two to play himself into shape, and I could see him still being able to make a solid contribution to next years' squad.

Does anyone think that Miami is desperate enough to shed Beasley's salary that we could get a 1st out of that deal as well?

How about chicago bulls?

They only have about 23 mil in cap space. That means they can only offer one max contract and would have to trade for a player like bosh.

What does the max contract start at? I thought it was 15 mil. If that's the case, then a trade of

Bos send: Rasheed, #19 + Ta or Daniels
Bulls send: Loul Deng

We might have to add one more player to make the salary work.

For Boston:

They get a great backup for Ray and PP for the next few years, and then can continue to grow with rondo and Perk. He is signed to a Rondo type contract and I think if you put him with a pass first PG like Rondo , he will develope even more.

For Chi

They get to clear cap space to offer two max free agent, but they also pick up a pretty good 1st round pick and a role player like Ta, Daniels or Nate .

So what do you guys think? It is basically TA and #19 for Loul deng.

Wouldn't work.  Boston can't sign TA or Daniels for the sign and trade until after the draft.

Then, the guy picked has a cap number that has to be matched.

Yep.

There are only 5 Celtics who could be traded on draft night, according to CBA guidelines: Garnett, Rondo, Perkins, Wallace, and Davis (whose base year compensation status makes any deal extremely complicated).

All other Celtics are in the final years of their current contracts, or have an exercisable option for the upcoming season (Pierce). Those players cannot be dealt on draft night.

Is it just me, or does his potential retirement make this guy a HUGE trade chip? He could ostensibly help someone get from under a huge contract...

I have not heard this discussed, am I missing something?

Morris Peterson

- Gives the C's some depth at the wing position.
- NO needs the cap relief.
- Gives the Celtics an expiring contract to use at the trade deadline.

here's another variation on the min/gs trade that i cooked up (caution may cause brain malfunction)

bos sends rasheed
receives randolf, turriaf

min sends jefferson
receives rasheed, magette

gs sends magette, randolph
receives jefferson

it works on the trade machine! can't figure out why.

min gets a versatile wing scorer to compliment love . build around love/magette/flynn and picks. rasheed will either help their cap by retiring or provide competent play from the center spot.

gs gets rid of magette and lands big al

bos gets turiaf, a competent shot blocking center to fill in for, then back up KP. and the next big thing in a randolph who will thrive learning from KG and running with rr.

I second and third that idea... especially cause kobe thought the Lakers gave up too much to get gasol... I remember him being quoted that he was upset that the Lakers had to give up Marc in the trade. That would certainly make this rivalry more interesting than watching free throws.

Why would Memphis give up Marc Gasol? Makes no sense.

Minny gets royally shafted.  Maggette is not a building block for a young team.  Big Al should be able to land a better offer than that.  a starting Center, SG or SF for starters.
