:)  I will get worried once something actually happens.  After watching how the Cavs have been playing without Mo, Delonte and Powe, I am pretty comfortable right now.

FWIW, the rumor is that the Dallas deal of Howard for DeShawn and Butler is much more likely

Maybe. I don't think it's a given that a team that just had two players suspended for the year for guns are going to rush out and maek a trade for a self-proclaimed pothead.

I don't think there is any way Wyc adds that kind of salary to the roster. After the 2010-2011 season there is supposed to be a lock out and players will be making a lot less money. Why would Wyc add these huge salary players if players prices are going to drop after next year( besides the ones already signed)

after the 2010-2011 season the C's would have these players under contract

KG:      (18.2 MIL)           36 years old
Jamison: (15 MIL)             35 years old
Rondo  : ( 10 MIL)            25 years old
Peark  : ( resigned 8-10 MIL) 26 years old
Rasheed: ( 6.7 MIL)           37 years old

After next season the C's would have about 40 mil tied up in 3 big men over the age of 35. That is just not a responsible move for the organization going forward.

Not to mention you would have to sign PP and Butler if you want to keep them around.

As stupid as this probably is, I can see Washington wanting to make this deal just to try and stick it to the Cavs

I'm not going to read through this entire thread so forgive me if this has already been asked, but where on earth are Butler and Jamison going to play.  Pierce and Garnett are your 3 and 4.  You going to move Garnett to the 5?  Sit him?

Are you going to put Butler at the 2?

I am not sure if this trade makes a ton of sense.  Sometimes big names aren't always what a team needs.

But, as a Cavs fan, I say go for it.  Butler and Jamison have never been able to beat the Cavs.  :)

Have you watched the C's much this year?

First, Pierce is playing a lot more like a SG this year.  He has become a spot up shooter, and plays a lot more within the offense.  So offensively, having Butler play as more of a power guy would be fine.

Also, Butler and Pierce both are good defenders, who can stick with most SG's or SF's in the league, so that is not a big issue.  It is certainly an upgrade over Ray.

As for Jamison...well, KG has looked pretty bad lately.  There does not seem to be much reason for confidence of him being healthy, so that brings the value of Jamison right there.  Also, even if KG is healthy, Jamison provides scoring off the bench, another big who can defend the perimeter, strong rebounding, and a much better option than Wallace to finish the games next to KG at center.

Admittedly, I have not watched much of the Celtics.  So this was more a theory then what I have seen with my own 2 eyes.

FWIW, the rumor is that the Dallas deal of Howard for DeShawn and Butler is much more likely

No rumor is likely, that's why they are rumors.

It's fun to speculate, but no one will no anything till Thursday, just like every year.

It's also a better deal for them to get rid of both guys than to just get rid of butler, assuming this is purely a salary dump.

I think 80% or more posters on this thread agree this is a great trade. I love the trade myself but feel bad for Ray Allen if it goes through (He has expressed his love for this franchise and has a great work ethic). Some one once said "you should love the name in front of the Jersey, not the back", but its only natural to get attached to great players like Ray. Hopefully if it goes through Ray gets bought out and returns in 30 days, or maybe he will sign next year for the MLE. He is still a good player but he plays too many minutes for an older player and it has zapped his energy, he would be perfect off the bench. I support my teams no matter what. I just hope when all is said and done. Ray can retire a Celtic and get that 3 point record.

I love Ray too. He has sacrificed most. That's what I thinking too. If this trade goes through, Ray will likely get bought out and hopefully comes back in 30 days. And then for next season restructure Pierce's final year $21mil salary. And re-sign Ray at MLE. This keep the starting5 together. And have Butler/Jamison/Sheed/Daniels come off the bench.

again..that benck with DJ agustin or House is still a playoff team

A Big Disgruntled Baby could create a problem though...

Ainge says no:  http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/extras/celtics_blog/
When Danny denies the Bobcats deal, only mentions Rasheed Wallace to Charlotte rumour. Not Augustin and Glen Davis.

If Danny was solely denying having conversations with Boston about Wallace then I believe his Bobcats denial.

I reckon the Celtics would have a payroll of about $115 million next season, after luxury tax payments, if they made this trade.

$74 million for Pierce + KG + Jamison + Butler + Rondo
$14.5 million for Perk + Sheed + BBD + Walker
$2.5 million for a draft pick + two minimum contract players

A minimum roster size of 13 players. If they spent any additional money either through the MLE or using non/Bird rights to sign Daniels/House/TA their payroll would increase further. Without signing those players, the Celtics would still have no reserve options at the backup guard or backup wing positions. Only those minimum contracts. Maybe Anthony Carter + Ime Udoka types.

I think Wyc will be willing to pay, if the deal is a slam dunk. And this deal would be a slam dunk.

Still you make a good point that this is a very steep price, especially Jamison's final year.

Well, if there is in fact a lockout, those salaries essentially disappear (I believe).

I think Wyc and Co. are willing to pay that type of money if they land a LeBron or Wade type.

For Jamison + Butler? I'm still doubtful. It's an awful lot of money.
