GSW considering Ellis for Allen?

My guess is the other piece was actually Maggette, or the Warriors were looking for more than Ray...perhaps a package of Ray and Rondo for something like Ellis, Maggette, and Randolph.

I'm not sure about that.  There's no secret about the fact that the Warriors aren't enamored with Ellis, and his contract is looking like a mistake at this point.  I don't think this is anywhere near a slam dunk for Boston, due to questions about Ellis' contract, attitude, defense, size, turnovers, etc.

More importantly, why would they be coming to Boston if all they wanted was an expiring contract.  Do you really think there are not a bunch of teams that would be interested in giving up an expiring contract for Ellis?

This is one trade you have to think long and hard over...a number of pros and cons involved.  This I do know: whatever you do with Ray Allen has to be THE RIGHT THING.  He's really the linchpin of the "assets" that Danny possesses.  Danny screws a Ray Allen trade up, and it could cripple this franchise for years to come.  But if he pulls of a deal that gives this team a chance to compete for a title this season, and a valuable part of the future then he once again comes off looking like a genius.

Ellis and Vlad Rad is a "Wyc wants to cut payroll" move, and it stinks.

Ellis and Maggette for Ray and some of our expirings is something I'd take some time to mull over.

Anything else, like the original deal, is horrible.

I think a lot of teams would be very hesitant to take on five more years for a player with so many question marks.  Plus, the rumor is a team would be required to take on another contract, which makes some sense.

It's the same thing with Iguodala in Philadelphia.  You wouldn't think he'd be available in a salary dump, but apparently he is.  Teams are regretting give big money, long term deals to players they can't build around.

People say he is a bad shooter are out of their minds. He shoots 46% and that is pretty good for all of the shots he takes. Gets 2 steals a game as well. I am not saying he is the perfect fit because trading Ray hurts the Chemistry and everything but if we could trade Ray and a future pick for Ellis and Raja I dont know if you can turn that down. Ellis is a sick scorer and something we could use off the bench and have Raja start because of his D.

He's averaging 42 minutes a game, so the raw on/off court numbers cannot be taken at face value. Two sample sizes that are way out of wack.

I'm not sure Ellis is the guy...actually, he's probably not.  I'd rather a bigger player at the 2.

I do think that Danny will continue to say that he likes the current roster, and he will keep his cell phone on right up to the deadline as teams call with offers that include Ray's contract (which is what teams want, not the player).  I think Danny's a pretty savvy guy, Mikki Moore aside.

That said, Ellis has the kind of contract that I think we might expect to take on for the starting unit:  not a max deal, but a very talented starter in that 10-11 million range.  A team could be built that would be very talented at all positions, and deep, if a team can avoid dishing out the max for any one player.

Good point. The guy never sits. But when you consider 6 minutes * 42 or so games, the sample size is decent.

To your side, the last time he was healthy 07-08, he showed pretty well in this metric.
