wdleehi, since we're here -- who on the list would you trade eli for? Much as it would be tempting to add brady, he's considerable older in terms of age and games, and with the giants young overall core (including receivers), they have the potential to be a powerhouse with eli for a number of years. but, if tom recovers well from the knee, he should have 4, 5 good years left if not more.

to me, peyton is too old with his best years behind him, and no one else on the list is even debatable. eli is just too good at drowning out the haters and the distractions of the big stage. i want the guy who is truly unconsious, not the guy who can't stay out of his own way (rothlisbargord) or the angry guy (rivers).

Giants can't trade him.  Think of the cap hit.

I would take Brady.  I would probably take Payton except he really isn't that good in the playoffs (look at how bad his Super Bowl run numbers are).  I don't trust Big Ben off the field (driving his bike without a helmet after that accident, lawsuit).  River has been on one of the most talented teams in the NFL and gotten nowhere.

I saw Warner in NY already.  No need for that again.

well i don't imagine it actually occuring so i was leaving out the logitics. but i think we're in agreement. hard to imagine any secnario where the giants would seriously entertain trading the guy. i'm going to go out on a limb and say the pats are probably in the same boat.

Ok so Ive been thinking about this and you said Manning is better than warner because he wins and is a better fit.

I guess the same could be said about Tim Wakefield and the redsox.  He is a great fit for our team because we can afford to sign him to one year contracts and get rid of him when he finally proves to be too old and at the same time he wins and will soon be the winningest pitcher in Red Sox History.

At the same time though I can admit that CC Sabathia is a better pitcher even though I would rather have Wakefield on my team.

So CC Sabathia -- the highest paid pitcher in baseball -- is the Tim Wakefield as Kurt Warner is to Eli Manning? Once again, why are you writing this ridicluous stuff?

Look, you clearly don't understand what makes a guy valuable. What top 10 quarterback COULDN'T have succeeded in Arizona's system with their players last year.

Eli Manning is a franchise quarterback and the cornerstone of one of the best teams on football over the past few years. He has the personality traits that are essentially impossible to find in a guy that are neccessary to be a winner in the conditions of new york, on and off the field. Kurt Warner is a stopgap player for a couple of years in a franchise that has been terrible, overrated Matt Leinart's armstrength and took a chance on the guy. He's run with it -- and good for him. I'm not saying he's not good and that he never was. But this is about the VALUE of the guy. That is what this post was generated from.

Do you honestly thing QBs are paid based on their QG rating? No buddy -- their paid based on their ability to handle pressure, work well within their team's system, and lead their team to victory. There's really no arguement against Manning there, and amongst his peers (not his brother and brady -- his peers) there's not much of one either.

You need to move on from this ridiculous 'warner's stats are better so he's better' arguement. It's embarrassing, as is the bitter tone. Stats don't = wins, period. Go play fantasy if stats are how you measure success.

Eli Manning would not have made the superbowl last year with Arizona

Kurt Warner is not a stopgap he is a hall of famer...  The only time Eli will be near the hall of fame is on a guided tour by his brother  Have fun going 8-8 with the highest paid player in the league

The Guy is a two time MVP. Lead his team to a superbowl last year, beat the team that beat Eli in the first round.  Is a hall of famer.  Had a better statistical year last year, won more games.

Eli shouldent even be the highest paid player on the Giants...

the man earned his money last night. if he's got the ball late in the 4th with a chance to win the game, put it on the board.

he looked so relaxed running that offense it was really nice to see.  Giants fans were ready to jump ship on this guy and next thing Super Bowl MVP and consistently good play.
The NBA..where "this whole sport is a business and the referees decide games and David Stern is a snake and is only in this for the money" happens.

i don't really think that's true. his early years inconsistency had always been balanced by his ability to fend off media attention / big city distractions and lead the team. He's got something like 15 or 16 4th quarter comebacks now including the super bowl.

Eli is the most clutch QB in the NFL.
If Manningham is legit, the Giants are going to be Super Bowl team again.

agreed just two weeks. but he's built a nice body of work leading his team to victory. his numbers will never be at the top because he plays for the New York Giants -- but going back to the original post here (and all the totally ridiculous stuff written since) he earned his contract.
