I guess Ssspence that where I may disagree with you. I think contracts have to be earned based on what you during the duration of the contract. I think one of the reasons the patriots have been succesful for so long has been they dont go with past performance, or what have you done for me lately, but what will you do for me in the future. It sucks this year because it lead to the departures of some key guys but it puts the pats constantly in positions to reload and retool.
I guess I understand if you think he deserved the contract but whether or not he earns is is going to be up for judgement for the next several years.
sure. but the numbers by which contracts are negotiated are of course decided by past performace and potential for the future. the guy won a super bowl at a young age and is still improving entering his prime. and perhaps most importanly, he's not distracted by either his ego, or naysayers. he just goes out and does his job. for those reasons i'd argue he's a safe bet to earn his money. and for those reasons amongst others it's clearly safe to say being paid like a top QB is not "ridiculous" for eli.
it's hard to argue with pats cap mgmt. it's brought them a great deal of success, and it's too early to judge the seymour deal which i understand is the latest sore spot.
I think the Seymour thing was more a lack of a deal. They traded him cause they knew they couldent resign him for the kind of money that he wanted. I think its one of those things where it hurts the team now but how can you pass up an a probable top 10 pick for one year of service.
Personally I will be interested to see how things go for the usual 3 week span for Jacobs doesnt play. It seems like he gets hurt every year and without ward Ill be interested to see how Bradshaw steps up. Also I have been really impressed with the WR play so far, but losing hickson and nix is pretty big so we will see how quick they come back. And word on the Tuck injury? He should be back soon right?
yes, jacobs has been nicked up alot, tho bradshaw has been better this year. but you need jacobs to set up the escapability of bradshaw -- this is why they picked up the big kid from san diego off waivers (in case of jacobs injury).
hixon would be falling down the depth chart anyway, tho he is their best returner. nicks is definitely missed -- their three top receivers are smith, manningham and nicks, and that's been the plan all offseason, with barden starting to be worked in for change of pace / red zone action. but i think nicks will be back for the meat of the schedule, and combined with boss there are great hands all over the field with those 5.
no word on tuck yet -- probably separated his shoulder and he's tough as nails so should be back. can't wait for the next cowboys game. tuck, kiwi, sintim and co are going to be flying around looking for payback. flozell's in for a long day.
